i ran the windowsupdate one on a pc at work and it did the same, it runs in/quiet mode i guess
running it manually loads a little program that says it found nothing, and if you click details it lists the viruses that werent found.. its a really fast scan so i assume the quiet mode scanned, found nothing, and exited
had it found something im not sure if it would prompt you or just remove the virus and ask you to reboot
kind of scary having automatic cleaning from windowsupdate.. just hope it never mistakes a program for a virus when it isn't.. but in a way it might be good for the n00bz who if they see a prompt asking to clean a virus they might just cancel it.. if it does it by itself every 2nd tuesday of each month it might slow the spread of those worms
i downloaded it without needing activex.. theres 3 ways to get it, windowsupdate (requires IE), the activex (requires IE) button, or the download link (works in any browser)
yes, i also used it. MSAV.exe i think.. back in DOS (there was also a windows version).. but as far as i know there was no way to update definitions or anything so it couldn't compete with nortom/mcafee.. but this new thing is going to be regularly updated.. and right now it just does the major worms but i wouldnt be surprised if microsoft is just trying to sneak in slowly so it can eventually release a complete virus scan suite
It finds and fixes some common worms.. They plan on releasing a new version every second Tuesday of each month, and each new version will continue to clean worms from the previous versions.
Wonder what the antivirus companies think about this
Speaking of microsofts antispyware thing, anyone see windowsupdate lately? Theres a critical update called "Malicious Software Removal Tool - January 2005 (KB890830)"
"This tool checks your computer for infection by specific, prevalent malicious software (including Blaster, Sasser, and Mydoom) and helps remove any variants found. You should also use an antivirus product to remove other malicious software that may be present. This tool helps maintain your computer, and its appearance does not indicate that your machine is infected with malicious software. After you run this item, you may have to restart your computer."
or maybe you could read the damn article.. hell the little description on/.
"It seems that earth was near the edge of the cone of probability of when it could go. As the cone kept closing, the probability of hitting earth grew, but it kept getting closer to the edge. It's now outside the cone, and we can be safe."
i never watched farscape but are you referencing the stargate episode with dom (gets into the heads of SG1 team) or was he also a character on farscape?
Obviously you don't work for them, or else you would know its LEGO not "legos".. No S at the end, 1 lego = lego,2 lego = lego, lots of lego = lots of lego, etc.
same here, i can go to bed right after drinking coffee/soda/anything with caffeine
even those energy drinks like red bull do nothing (although i get like a tingle in my fingers for a few seconds after i down a can, but then nothing happens)
It doesn't really have to do with english language, it has to do with marketing.
If it were $499.99 it would still be "sub-$500" or "under $500".. people see a big price like $500, then the ad says its below that, even if its just 1 penny below, it sells.

This page has more technical information about the tool.
It would also seem microsoft released "Malicious Software Removal Tool" on WindowsUpdate

I think this one is about 1000 feet across, not the 16 foot one mentioned the other day
Actually, there is a side-by-side pic out there, someone posted it on the sg1 board on IMDb but I cant find it now.. They look really similar
