I don't quite understand why you are so irate about this. Apple records has a perfectly legitimate lawsuit.
"Apple Corps, owned by the former Beatles and their heirs, still owns the licensing rights to Beatles products. It is claiming that the introduction of iTunes broke a $26 million settlement under which Apple Computer agreed to steer clear of the music business, for which the Beatles company retains the famous trademark. It is the latest clash in one of Britains longest-running corporate legal battles. "
Apple computers agreed to not get into the music business as part of the settlement with Apple records over the company name. Thus avoiding any confusion between the two. Now Apple computers has iTunes which is part of the music business. It'll be interesting to see how this turns out. I'm willing to bet thought there is another settlement that Apple computers will be paying out.
True upload would be pretty bad, but I imagine anyone who is going to back up anything of large size will use broadband. Plus you could always do all your uploading at night or while at work to help mitigate this.
I'm really looking forward to this as it'll allow me to backup all my digital photographs. I've already stored it on two different harddrives for redundancy, and given backups to all my family on DVD to help with offsite backup... but this will be nice as it gives me even another layer of safety, and even if I had 10gigs of photographs (think I'm only at 6 or so) I'd only pay about $1.50 a month. If google offered this for free, I'd upload a copy there for more redundancy.
If I'm not mistaken these PCs were destined for the $100 dollar price tag so they money to make them could be easily raised and they could donate them to areas of Africa. For sure though the PCs will have a hand crank as opposed to using electricity from the wall.
Don't really know enough about that to compare, but the main group in the movie had an idea just like yours, to stop terrorists by committing terrorist acts against them.
Like if the terrorist bombed a city and killed 100 people the anti-terrorist group would kill 1,000 people in a terrorist supporting area. Figured the movie was popular enough that people would have seen it and understood would it meant. Guess not as it got modded off topic.
I'd rather have a Treo-iPod combination. If I had one of those, my life would be complete. A good robust phone, a simple non-cluttered calendar app, the ease of use and iTunes integration of an iPod, and a full keyboard like the treo has. I'd never need to buy another phone/ipod again.
Assuming a complete vacuum, the apple would still fall faster. It would accelerate at a faster speed due to it's increase mass. Remember that Gravity is based upon the mass of items and the distance between them. As the apple has more mass it would accelerate faster towards the earth, but as the weight difference between an apple and a feather is almost non-existant when compared to the mass of earth the difference would be very very small.
Thanks for posting this, and I know it probably wasn't your intention, but I just thought of the perfect way to get the downloaded episodes onto DVD.
DVD Recorders. I just got one for Christmas, now instead of having to go to my brother's house to watch Battlestar Galactica (I cancelled everything on my cable that wasn't local channels as it was too expensive), I can just hook up my DVD Recorder to the TV-Out on my video card. Assuming the resolution is equal to my crappy POS cable DVR I'll be really happy:)
I'll just have to do a test on that. and hopefully one of the solutions below for getting the video into full screen will help.
Just as an added note here, make sure to dissasemble the keyboard. Leave all the electronics and boards out of the dishwasher and just put the plastic shell on. This works pretty slick, the only downside is the hard water spots if you don't have soft water.
The only problem is it'll have to be someone else and not Apple/iTunes who would do the direct signing of the artists. This harkens back to the original trademark dispute Apple computers had with Apple records (The Beatles Company). Apple computers were allowed to use the name, but were forbidden from entering the music industry. I do remember there was a lawsuit about this a year or two ago after iTunes was launched, but I'm not sure how that turned out.
Excellent points, and for those that don't quite have 250 bucks to spend you could always get the 280 Pros

It's what I use at home for watching movies and listening to music and it's astounding how much ambient noise they block out. When they are running I can't hear my air conditioner or dishwasher in my apartment. When my cellphone rings, I only know it goes off by the backlight lighting up the room. Because I can't hear the ambient noise I don't have to turn the volume up to half of what I used to have it on, plus the sound quality is astounding. This is my first set of really nice headphones and I'd by another if anything were to ever happen to these.
Could it be because at an art cinema that people are decent enough not to talk/use cellphones/have crying babies so people can enjoy the sounds, but at a normal theater you need the extra volume to 'block-out' some of the crap noise?
Of course you always hear people complain about how scary some of these horror/action movies are for little kids, now just imagine the loud volume that goes with them... it must be tearing their ears up.
I was going to point that out, but you beat me to it. I don't know that I'd mod it funny though as it is a bit tasteless (and yes I do know that quite a bit of humor here on slashdot is a bit tasteless). It definately is not a troll though.
It could be thought that the video iPod in The Office was just a plot device... but with the announcement that The Office would now be available on iTunes coming earlier that week, it was sadly just product placement. At least it furthered the script thought and got some chuckles. Now if it were just a nano and not a video iPod then I could say it was just a plot device.
I'm sort of torn about this. I recently cancelled my expanded cable service because there were only three shows I watched. Battlestar Galactica, Manchester United games, and the 4400. I figured I'd just start waiting on DVDs for the 4400, and with Manchester United I can go to my brother's house once a week and watch it there. But with Battlestar Galactica I wanted to keep watching it, but figured I'd be stuck with only watching it on DVDs when the season was over. This gives me a lot of hope that it is showing up on iTunes, and when I saw the headline I was hoping they'd have Battlestar Galactica, the only problem is that I'd want it to be able to burn to a DVD so I can get other people hooked on the show.
My question is why was he such a moron? Anyone would know that an iPod wouldn't cost 5 bucks. It would have been a bit smarter to say take the barcode from a 30 gig iPod and put it on the box for the 60 gig iPod? Then the price still seems reasonable for the item being purchased
Okay quick question here since you brought up the 30 second easter egg skip and people seem to complain that they are making it harder to skip commercials. I use a DVR (non-TIVO) at home and a TIVO brand DirecTV receiver at my brother's house. Neither has a 30 second skip ability, but when commercials pop up you simply fast forward right past them. In my opinion that is all the commercial skipping I need, but is there a better commercial skipping ability in past TIVO boxes that I'm not aware of? Are they going to stop the ability to fast forward?
Don't forget his first words to R2 were literally "Why hello there friend." He obviously recognized R2. And he also claimed that he never owned any droids which were also true. Remember he likes to divulge information slowly and "From a certain point of view"
The way I always understood it is that Plagueis could create life, and the only other person who learned it was his apprentice (never named) but when Annakin asks what happened to Plagueis Palpatine got a bit of a grin and said he was murdered by his apprentice after his apprentice learned the secret to creating life.
In my opinoin Palpatine WAS that apprentice and can manipulate life and create it (like he did with Annakin). It's just that once Annakin swears loyalty to him he lies and says he doesn't know how to do it. He does this so Annakin doesn't turn against him because maybe in the future they can can save Padme, but for now do this other job for me. Knowing that going on that job will seal his turn to evil.
I'm just mad that now this new service is out I can no longer watch music videos from other countries. I always used to check out the music videos from some British artists I like (The Streets) and now the new version comes out I get a message that it's unavailable in the US.
Actually just two weeks ago I was happy for my camera phone. I didn't have to lug my SLR or Point and Shoot around, and while in Disney World I was shopping for a cake topper for my brother's wedding. I could take pictures of all the ones we found, e-mail them to him then call him and find out what he wanted. It was only VGA quality, but it was good enough.
Of course though 900 bucks is just too much for a phone, the most I'd ever pay would be 250-300 and that would be a phone I plan to have for years, for example my Treo which I adore.
Or rather than leave it in a case, you can just put it into an iSkin. I have one and so does everyone I know who has an iPod. I've had my 3G iPod in the iSkin for about two years now with no special handling. I'd taken it out yesterday and there were some minor scuffs here and there, and a bit more around the screen (not on the screen) due to the screen protector loosing two of it's soft cushy legs. It's still in a resellable condition. If you own an iPod buy yourself an iSkin, they are amazing products.
Of course they are coming out with a model for the nano very shortly as well.

Either put it in a case or a skin. Don't whine when it gets scratched if you've done nothing to protect it.

Have you seen the Treo? Out of the box it allows you to check e-mail surf the web, manage your calendar, manage your contacts. Plus it's a good phone straight out of the box. You have the ability to take pictures/record movies (although movies are in a proprietary format). The 600 and 650 are great devices and in my opinion are better than the Blackberry

Yeah I thought Swordfish was a pretty good movie too.

It's quite a bit more expensive than salt, but this has to be a much geekier way to do it: http://www.coopercooler.com/index_1.html
I'm still waiting for the PvP implementation in ToonTown. Should be coming along soon right?
