  2. Re:Innovative games??? on Redemption Still Possible For Sony? · · Score: 1

Actually I think Doom 3 was a really good game.

I'm not trying to pick anyone out specifically, but I often
wonder if the people bashing Doom 3 have ever played the game
through. Or least played a decent portion, say 30% - 40%.

Comparing Doom 3 to Doom 1/Doom 2 is just silly. Doom1/Doom2 were
pre-quake technology and didn't even have 3D enviroments.

The level of immersion in Doom 3 blows Doom2/Doom1 out of the water.
The horror enviroment really sucks you in. It is truely
one of the only games I have ever felt scared while playing.

The level design of Doom3 also completely destroys previous versions.
Many levels in previous Dooms probally only took a day or less to create.
Every Doom3 level has much more time and thought put into. Doom 3 doesn't
just create a bunch of squares rooms, throw some monsters here, some keys here, and some barrels there. Each level comes off as a unique indepth enviroment. The monster placement is there to build/release tension. Every
level in Doom 3 probally took weeks to develop.

The flashlight also provided a new deminsion to the game play. You can
see or you can shoot, pick one. Brought a new feeling of urgency to the
game. Also added to the horror enviroment.

Sure Doom 3 is still a shooter game. If you don't like shooters, then don't
play it. But among single player shooters, it is one of the best.

If you want tons of gold you can just set it in the console.

No need to exploit some goofy bug.

Go to www.gamefaqs.com they have a list of commands.

It will be something simple like: set gold 10000.

Also, you can pretty much create whatever you want using
    the contruction set.

But really cheating ruins the game, I don't recommend it.
As soon as you start cheating there is no going back and
imo it really ruins the fun level of the game.

  9. Committee doesn't want to add features!! on Bjarne Stroustrup Previews C++0x · · Score: 2, Informative

The goal of C++0x is not to add a bunch of new features to the language.
Two of the driving goals of the committee are to prefer library extension
to language extension and to focus on simplifying current features.

Remeber that the standard library specification is a major part of
the standard. And standard library extensions are very different than
    language extensions.

The actual "new features" that the Bjarne was discussing focus on
simplifying and streamlining current features and syntax. For example,
while template typedefs and auto iterator types are language
extensions their goal is to simplify a current language feature: templates.

The possible exception to this is the addition of "concepts". However,
information about the design of "concepts" is so sparse in that article
that it is difficult to form an opinion.

If you look at wolf3d vs current generation FPS and can't see the difference I don't know what to say. What about multiplayer? Did wolfstien have CTF, Team Fortress, and other team multiplayer games that are the mainstay of the current generation? The Wolf3d enviroment can barely even be considered 3D, the levels were completely flat. Current generation has complex multi-floor indoor arenas that seemlessly blend with large outdoor zones. What about physics models? Hell, what about jumping?!? Copenja

The car weighs alittle over 1800 pounds. Given that most modern cars weigh in over 3000 pounds, it doesn's take a physicist to see why having to stop and turn an extra 1200+ pounds is a disadvantage. And yes, theoretically rear wheel drive cars do perform much better. But in practice there are two factors that even the field abit. One, is weight. Rear wheel drive cars are heavier. Second, is they are more difficult to drive. This allows average drivers (like us) to push the front wheel drive cars much harder and obtain better lap times. copenja
