You must be joking... Stalin took the 1932 crop away from the Ukrainian people because most of the populace wanted independence from Sovie rule. why don't you get your facts straight...

Wow, try multi billionares...
One thing that is adding to the number for laptops is students. As a student in Seattle, I notice that many students own laptops(perhaps 50/50) if not more compared to desktops. And since there is a wireless access point everywhere on campus and in many places around campus, it is conductive to laptop use.
I think that if Apple wants to have as much success as they had with music, they need to offer a video device. The whole reason they had so many music users was that they had a cool player that everyone wanted as a status symbol.
I played this game last time Slashdot did an article on it, and I found it to be boring and repetitive. Yeah sure there are some puzzles, but when you have to do the same ones for 10 times in a row, it quickly looses its luster.
I am no expert in the field of quantum cryptography, but i could imagine a sort of situation where the "man in the middle" captures all of the photons, before they are sent to the receiver, then calculates the required speed to make up for the latency and boosts the "signal" to prevent the reciever from knowing anything has gone wrong. Of course, I could be totally wrong...
Something like this would encourage people to switch to internet downloads of shows, if something like this was available. I find it surprising that the TV corps, knowing of this, haven't set up good ways for viewers to download shows...
A service like that, released at the right time would be a huge money maker.
I hope this changes nothing with regards to my future condo on Mars. Althought the availability of cheap native labor could decrease the price...*ponder*

"Is Microsoft trying to compete with open source projects like PXES or ThinStation?"
I used to work for a school district in Washington that deployed ThinClient systems throughout the whole district. At first the staff were whining about how they couldn't install anything(like those dumb picture screensavers) but eventually it quieted down.
If I remember correctly, the ThinClients used Linux to connect to a server running Windows 2000, which made it the same as using a regular Windows box. there is quite a big market for these devices, so I am not surprised that MS is persuing it...
I don't agree with Apple restricting their files, because it limits my choices as a consumer, but I don't think that Congress should be able to meddle with capitalism whenever someone whines about it. This could set a dangerous precedent, and should be avoided at all costs.
When I am not getting satisfactory results using Google(about 30% of the time), I try Yahoo, and I usually find what I am looking for. If this keeps up, I might start my searches using Yahoo.
the North Pole could be ice-free in summertime by the end of the century. Around the Arctic, salmon are moving up into more northerly waters, hornets are beginning to buzz and barn owls are appearing in regions where indigenous people have never seen a barn

Since Orson Scott Card is going to help out with this, I hope it will be entertaining in a different type of way;
I get sick of games in which the point is to level your character etc.
Maybe this will set a precedent to put more of a story into Mass Multiplayer games.
Is this the first "proposed" MM game that will employ a master writer? It's the only one that I can think of...

according to a CNET news story, buying from these guys, you would pay about $2million for a Petabyte. This is 10 times cheaper than EMC.

Wasn't April Fools like 29 days ago??? I guess people are right: Microsoft always ends up trying to catch up...

The software was bought by MS anyway, so it could have a chance of being good.
