  13. Why are so many people upset? on Ballmer Threatens To Pull Out of the US · · Score: 1

Negativity towards Microsoft on Slashdot?! You've got to be kidding!

    Anyway...

A few business principles are in order:

Business exists to satisfy a need in the market
Businesses exist to make money for its stakeholders
People work for businesses to make money

Microsoft, as a company, is expected to make more money year after year. Balmer, is tasked by the board to make sure this happens. It his responsibility to fight for Microsoft to make sure the percentage of growth exceeds inflation. If not, Balmer has not fulfilled his responsibility to the stakeholder.

So, why is it so surprising that Microsoft would "threaten" to move jobs outside of the US? Now, a few liberal government principles are in order:

Government exists to make money. It is incapable of producing for itself, therefore it must tax to satisfy this need.
Government is providing entitlement programs, including health, social security, disability, etc. New entitlements require funding, thus more taxes.
Anti-corporate sentiment from Democrats, leads them to believe that taxing the "rich" is appropriate. Microsoft and many other large businesses gross billions per year. The US Government believes its entitled to larger tax receipts from these businesses.

Microsoft can only pass the buck so far to the consumer, before they get pissed and switch to the competition. A stakeholder is leaving Microsoft (if this is the case) and Balmer must retain the consumer base.

Balmer is making the right call.

True, taxes are part of life. But, I'm not happy about any additional taxes, especially when I already feel like I'm over-taxed.

The federal government takes a considerable share of my money when I'm paid. In addition, when I'm given a bonus, or when my risk pays off in the stock market. There are plenty more taxes to mention, but my point is this: it's never enough for the state or federal government!

Hmm. I can't say that I've been a victim of drunk driving, but I would say that I would be insulted by this statement if I was. This statement is, by far, the most narcissistic, media whoring, attention grabber MADD could use. Yes, let's equate the thousands upon thousands of people's anguish as victims of drunk driving WITH A FAKE VIDEO GAME! There's nothing that says we care, by attacking a VIDEO GAME than going after the real problem; lobbying local and state governments to be harsher on actual drunk drivers.

This kind of shit is becoming a trend and it's getting annoying.

Have these scientists forgot that Mars has almost no magnetic field and atmosphere?

The magnetic field of a planet protects the atmosphere and surface from radiation sent off by the sun. Without this, tremendous amounts of radiation reach the planet's atmosphere and surface. If we were to rebuild the atmosphere, we would find that we just wasted our time, because there is no magnetic field to deflect any incoming radiation. The effects of the sun would essentially knock the new atmosphere off the planet and into space.

  24. Justice System/Patent System Reform on Apple Sued For Using Tabs In OS X Tiger · · Score: 1

I'm pretty ready to see the justice system get an upgrade to 21 century standards.

Lawsuits cost money and they seem to be a loss a majority of the time. It's costly to tax payers and to companies alike. I think it's about time for suits such as this to be paid in full by the losing side.

Doing so would deter frivolous lawsuits such as this one and force companies to strongly consider the losing consequences of going after the big money, such as Apple.

In addition to the legal system needing reformation, so does the patent system. I have no issue with inventions being safeguarded, but what the hell? Tabs?!

Generalizations such as universal tabs are ridiculous and should be thrown out of the patent office.

    I'm ready for patent reform!
