This is just soooooo slow!" Hell I even heard that from my quad core customers!

Frankly after the 3.0.x branch the FF devs lost their way, they just started aping chrome UI while slowing the living hell out of the browser. I have a 1.8GHz Sempron I use both as a nettop and test bed (since it roughly has the same performance and as an Atom based nettop) and frankly even FF 3.6 is like a bad joke compared to Chromium based browsers. With FF 3.6 launching a new tab will SLAM the CPU for a good 40 seconds and if that new tab has video? Better go make a sandwich, it'll be awhile. Compare to Comodo Dragon (based on chromium) where NO tab will slam the CPU hard enough to take control away from the user, and even video plays just fine. and do NOT say the "newer versions perform better" because that is a LIE. I have FF 7 on this quad and even with 8Gb of RAM it just creeps when compared to Dragon or ANY chromium based, its just a bad joke.

so we have a pretty good reason to whine, FF is now shite on a crusty roll, Opera? Frankly I can't stand the UI and most of my users don't care for the Opera way either, so that just leaves Chromium and IE. Now I don't know about the rest of you but I'll be recommending IE when they pry my cold dead fingers off the keyboard, as I've seen far to many drive bys targeting IE to risk it, so that pretty much leaves chromium. WD is okay but frankly their quality seems to be going down too, at least from the talks I've had with fellow shop owners. Hitachi drives are also quite good if you can find them, but the best bang for the buck are the Samsung Spinpoint and EcoDrive lines. by shopping around I've been picking up 2Tb EcoDrives for less than $80 and if I'm having a lucky day 1Tb for less than $50. These babies have 32Mb of cache and in my benchmarks kick all but the latest 7200RPM drives while running less than 89 degrees f.

Because it looks like in the race to the bottom we are gonna end up with really cheap but REALLY shitty drives. I don't know about you guys but I don't mind paying a little more for a drive that lasts, and I have 20Gb Samsung drives that have been horribly abused (industrial and construction work, literally caked in filth) and still kept right on humming. As for threads? Servers will ALWAYS be heavily threaded that goes without saying. But I think unless someone trips over the holy grail we have reached pretty much the plateau when it comes to users. They simply aren't doing enough to warrant going thread crazy. I always check my users performance in Win 7 just to see if there is anything they need to increase after about a month and you know what I find? Most of the time the computer is twiddling its thumbs because they simply can't give it enough work to stress it, and that with even the low end Athlon duals and triples, they simply can't come up with enough work to stress the CPU more than a few seconds at a time. as I said I'm "Mr Multitask" and when i'm mobile I find the tasks I have rarely peg out the Brazos APU, web tasks simply aren't that heavy.

And the tasks you listed is a perfect example of why I think AMD is on the right track: Both farmville and Flash videos are GPU accelerated and since the GPU has 80 stream processors it can handle plenty while leaving the CPU to other tasks. So far the ONLY task I found that pegs the CPU for more than a few seconds is a virus scan, and even that quickly drops after about a minute.

but sure there will always be corner cases, i have a deneb quad on the desktop and would like to go to a thuban 6 core after Xmas, why? Because I like to do heavy audio and video work on the desktop and thus more cores is always better. But I sure as hell don't want to be transcoding video or trying to edit a 6 track multilayer audio recording in audacity when I'm mobile because a screen large enough to give me the detail required would make the thing weigh 20 pounds. For the tasks I DO perform when mobile, checking mail, downloading files for customers, watching videos, listening to music? brazos does it all while barely breaking a sweat and THAT is why i have been recommending them to my customers. Its the right mix of size, power, battery life, and price. So is that how they do it in Farmville? Honestly I don't get that fucking thing, I swear its like crack to females. I've even had women come in and base their computer on how well it would play Farmville!

I saw the same thing with the original Age Of Empires. i thought my old boss Doug was fricking nuts when he brought in a whole box of AoE discs and told me to start installing but he said "Just you watch" and put one of our all in one units in the window playing the demo of AoE. sure enough it wasn't 20 minutes before we had females coming in going "What is that? Age Of Empire?" and our sales went up 25%.

I don't know if they've figured out "the formula" for guys yet but that damned Farmville/Frontierville/Mafia Wars sure does have the females addicted. I've even been paid to make house-calls simply to get Farmville working on a system. man that thing is nuts!

Uhhhh...why? Its all ones and zeroes. You could put it in .avi or .mkv, you could store it on discs or drives or NAND, hell you could even print it as a long stream of ones and zeroes if that melts your butter.

Hell if anything I'd say film is what you have to worry about, its fragile and don't take changes in temp and humidity well and is a bitch to copy so is less likely to have multiple backups. With digital its as simple as copy or transfer to format or medium, its pretty damned easy. I know that I have had a couple of customers lose quite a lot when a fire damaged their homes but thanks to digital their family photos? NOT among the losses as they took my advice and had them all backed up to the web. It would have been a royal PITA to do that with prints and therefor didn't get done with their old photos which are now gone forever.

Nice answer fucknuts, no proof, not even any experience with the product, just "nu uh!". And this is from an idiot that doesn't even know how to quote correctly so what should anyone expect?

Now let us see what he is AFRAID TO SHOW YOU because it is the TRUTH. The CORRECT quote is "As far as the user is concerned there is NO CLI in windows" and I DARE anyone to prove me wrong. walk up to 100 people in the street and ask them "How do you call up command line in Windows" and you know what you are gonna get? "Whats a command line" Because windows DON'T NEED A SHITTY TERMINAL just to do the tasks 99.995% of the population does. Linux? Puts the terminal on the desktop, why? Because YOU HAVE NO CHOICE. Its a SERVER OS that has been BADLY hacked to pretend to be a desktop OS, but in the end? Its ALL CLI. Here fucknuts, enjoy your fail...

Isn't it sad, how like a frightened child afraid to look under the bed, you cower at the truth? if your driver model isn't shit then why does Dell have to run their own repos even though we are talking a teeny tiny subset of hardware? Oh right because Linux shits itself and dies if you use the default repos! Man that is some excellent product you got there! you think I can get better QA than the third largest OEM on the planet? What, you expect me to tell paying customers "Go to the forum, kiss some loser ass, and maybe, just maybe, in a few days someone will have mercy and give you a big pile of bullshit that may or may not make your sound work again"?

Bleeding yet douchey? want some more? nice thing about having the truth on your side, you can keep throwing punches all day! How about how a decade old Windows beat the shit out of Linux on netbooks or how ASUS has given up on your bullshit or how about Walmart running away from linux as fast as it can? You got the crazy koolaid drunk enough to say they ALL are paid shills because they won't do your forum dance or CLI horseshit? Meanwhile your "hero" Torvalds the great says Plans? We don't need no steenkin plans!. Why don't you tell them that at work next week, see how quick you get a pink slip? More? How about you actually have the balls to celebrate getting a whole 1% market share while you are actually lower than JavaME and there is a whole website dedicated To your bullshit and excuses .

You see you whiny little delusional mama's boy, I'm your worst fucking nightmare...a retailer that still believes. I believe that the community doesn't have to take Torvalds shit sandwiches, I believe that things can be made better, I believe Linux can be something for more than douchebags like you that will happily take a cock slapping from linus as long as you can say you are sticking to "teh man". I believe that there can be Linux boxes on actual shelves and penguins on boxes. But here enjoy some of the wisdom of the great RMS and maybe you'll feel better
