So explain to me how society mods responses like this to +5 Insightful when all the guy ? (who knows, he only posts as an AC anyway) spouts is swear words and bile.

Perhaps you ought to address the real issues one by one rather than venting your spleen. It would make a much more intersting comparison. MSSQL has advantages over MySQL ... nobody will argue against that. The fact is that many people do NOT need advanced features. Its horses for courses.

MySQL has had transactions for some time, and will get triggers, views, etc. 5.0 already has stored procs, transactions, by default. Yes I know they've been around for some time in commercial offerrings, but the fact is that MySQL is OpenSource, written by volunteers. The support for MySQL is 10 times better than anything commercial I've seen, and its free.

There, I didn't use one swear word in that. Go on, try it

Its not the first example. I worked at UBS in London and they brought a large team of IT support people from India over to the UK to work. It turned out that after 6 months ... these people were being paid half the salary, yet the responsiveness was more than twice as slow ... hence they worked out that they were losing out - so they sent them back to India.

Why not do like I do ... when a telesales person calls you just put the phone on speaker with volume down and put the handset down ... they can talk as much as they like, to themselves. The call is costing them money, not you. Its actually more enjoyable to leave the volume up a little, and you can hear them as they realise that you aren't listening :-)

  18. Re:Not so on Film Distribution Comes To The Internet · · Score: 1

I'd agree that the distribution is the problem, yet in the UK virtually all cinemas are owned by the major hollywood labels and hence it isnt rocket science to realise what they will do in their cinemas ... show their own films, regardless of whatever distribution. The only current way for a UK film to make it to the box office is to have a significantly high enough profile to get shown at a handful of cinemas.

In other European countries they have the IMHO better idea of having a law that states that a percentage of all films shown in cinemas MUST be from that country. I forget the percentage in Spain, but it is the order of 50%, and as a result the public get the opportunity to see home-grown films, and in their own language. The hollywood films still get shown ,but have significantly shorter runs due to the laws. If only the UK would consider a law of this ilk
