  1. Privacy Issue on Microsoft Finalizes Its Desktop Search Software · · Score: 5, Interesting

I have tried the Google Desktop Search and I was not impressed with the lack of options. I know google tries to simplify things, but this was way too simple. The main problem is the lack of Access Control Options. I don't trust anything indexing all my files. It just a privacy issue I have.

It makes you wonder whether companies just rush to market their products without doing proper developement or testing. I'm sure the makers of Treo had wifi in mind, but the time needed to develop support would take quite a while. So they marketed the product and began selling it.
I've noticed this, especially, on DVD-RW drives as they relese the product, and than provide support for it after with firmware upgrades, which are sometimes quite tedious to work with.
I am referring to developement and support for main functionaly not minor bugfixes (which I have no problem with upgrading the firmware for).

  16. Re:Bullsh** detector on It's Not About The Technology · · Score: 2, Insightful

There is a distinction between a 'product', 'service', and 'solution'.
The service sector is being overpopulated with competition as outsourcing increases.
So companies have no choice, but to innovate, and provide a *solution*. This "solution" does a lot more than just a simple service. This is what will drive the service sector in the future
Wouldn't it be better if a software product provided a solution rather than just a service. Your statement is also valid because some companies nowadays say they are providing a "solution" to sound almighty, but in fact, it is just a service or a product.

  22. Just Upgraded on Trillian 3.0 Released · · Score: 2, Informative

I just upgraded to Trillian 3.0 and let me tell you that I'm not amazed like I was with the 2.0 upgrade.

First of all, the skin support is absolutely horrible. The last updated skin is from January 2004. My trillian 2.0 skin works fine although the some of the new options really ruin its look.
After a bit of fiddling around, I got it back to to the good ol' look that I really liked (minimalistic).

By default, ALL the IM protocols are disabled. This means you have to go in and enable them, which I found to be a little annoying for an expert user. Although a beginner would not find it a lot more complex.

One of the great features of defining the size in pixels has been disabled which i really enjoyed. The main reason is because with that feature, you can just define a size and all your windows will be the same size.

The tabbed windows are a great addition, but i'm more of a fan of individual windows.

Overall, a quick looks shows great addition and bugfixes. I'll try using it for now, but I may revert to 2.0 in the future if things dont go smoothly.

I have gotten it to work with skins but it runs extremely slow on my Duron 700MHz.

On windows, I have found that Trillian is the best Multi-IM client out there. I'm off to check out what new features they've added and if its worth upgrading.
