Or you can just use aptitude, which keeps track of that stuff. If you've installed kubuntu-desktop with aptitude, then it's just a simple 'aptitude remove kubuntu-desktop'.
I've been using Ubuntu for more than two years and I've never had a DVD burn fail. Probably burnt more than 200 DVDs in that time... Both with Brasero and k3b. Maybe you've had bad luck?
If you're willing to get to know it and learn how not to anger it. After a while you can get the hang of things and find what you can and can't do safely. At that point it's actually not that hard to be productive.
Well, as you say, it is possible to use Cinelerra, but video editing is still one of the major weaknesses of Open Source, and in my case, it's the only thing that keeps me from getting rid of my Windows partition =/ There's nothing like Premiere or Vegas, and let's not talk about Final Cut or AVID
First person storytelling isn't necessarily more inmersive than 3rd person. I mean, have you ever watched a movie in first person? It gets boring kinda quickly. There're only a handful of examples in movie history, because you can't really feel what your character feels... until then, it's easier to connect with your character by watching him/her.
LCDs do not 'add colour': it's a substractive process. You start with white light, which contains every colour possible, and you filter it to only let through the colours you want to display (IE, if you put a red filter in front of a while light, you only let red pass, while blocking green and blue)
I'm from Argentina too. While everything you said is correct, not showing up on election day is almost harmless. At most, you get fined 40 pesos (12 dollars), ONLY when you're trying to get a passport or try to exit the country. I know some people who don't vote as a political statement, and none of them has ever had any trouble.
It's not read only -- you can save your settings, so presumably there's some way to screw it up. If it's more secure it's because you're just running a really obscure platform.
While TV rips come out about a half hour after the episode is broadcast, it won't have subtitles, and fansubs take at least a day until they have acceptable quality.
I agree, but most the "beneficial uses" of nicotine to help "...depression, schizophrenia, Alzheimer's, Tourette Syndrome, ADHD, anger management and anxiety." are the reasons most people smoke to begin with!
Yes, I remember perfectly when I was diagnosed with schizophrenia, depression and ADHD. I instantly craved for a smoke!
FYI, computers are much cheaper in the States, mostly due to the lack of import taxes. Here in Argentina there's a 50% import tax, so that 499 dell becomes a 750, plus transport fees and the reseller's share, you're not really far away from $930.
I really like the design of the volume knob in my amplifier. It's completely analog, but it has a little motor inside, so when you turn up the volume with the remote control, the knob turns. The ability to turn down the volume before turning on the amplifier is great at late hours.
The only reason to keep 6.06 is if you're running a production server or something alike. If you're a desktop user there's no reason not to upgrade. Unlike Windows, upgrading to the next version of Ubuntu will not require twice the RAM, HD, etc.
It may sound stupid, but disabling that stupid dog is one of the most enjoyable things in reinstalling Windows. I kinda like its sad face when I tell him I don't need him at all... it's a little sadist, but in a good sense:)
From this I get the impression that you think that I am from the US. And immediately I feel a very strong urge to correct this impression. No, I'm not from the US, I'm Swedish!
I meant 'you' as 'you, Americans', not particularly you, I should've expressed myself better.
I also have mixed feelings about North Americans, but I have mixed feelings towards Argentinians too; you wouldn't believe how often I hear people (particularly right-wing old people) wishing for the return of a military government to 'restore peace and order'. The same military governments the US has supported and helped establish, yes, but nobody's fault-free.
When people criticize the actions of the US, I don't think you should ever assume that they're criticizing the American people. The distinction is very clear.
Although I agree with you, I think you're being overly positive. Many people don't make that distinction, and assume the current government is a reflexion of its citizens. I know many people who, so to speak, have a strong prejudice against US citizens, even though they may know not everyone voted Bush. One bad choice is excusable, but the US has earned its reputation over many, many years, and the image we have of your country influences the image we have of you. In Argentina, the term 'Yanqui' (Yankee) is used to refer to North Americans in a slightly derogative way. It's not terrible, but you hear the word 'Yanqui' much more often than 'North American'
A metric pizza should have ten slices.
I know of several places that sell rectangular pizzas by length, so when you order you can ask for a meter of pepperoni.

Or you can go to clusty.com, click on the search dropdown icon, and choose 'Add to search bar' at the bottom.

I never said LCDs are substractive. I just corrected the parent about his notion of 'adding colour to light'. Jeeze.

for a GTK version of amaroK, take a look at http://www.exaile.org/ (still missing some features, but it's being heavily developed)
Meizu M6, iRiver Clix, anything by Cowon supports flac, ogg and shows up as an external drive.
Every time people mod up a clippy post, a little part of me dies.

though it's dog ass slow... and there's always the concern of being sharing stuff you don't agree with.
Yes, you _are_ wrong.
Yes, I remember perfectly when I was diagnosed with schizophrenia, depression and ADHD. I instantly craved for a smoke!

When I double click a movie, say, avi with xvid, or mkv, or ogm in Windows, it doesn't play. Same with .flac, .ogg...
Games, I give you that.

It's really not any more complicated than upgrading from Windows 98 -> ME -> XP (ok, maybe skip Windows ME)
