i dont think that having a degree you don't use at work is a waste of time. my degree was japanese, and now i'm a sysadmin for a recruitment company. however i dont feel i wasted my time at uni; it made me a wiser, more rounded person, i had fun, and i have a skill tha may well come to be useful in the future. my alcohol tolerance is way up.
also, i can tell my idiot lusers to suck my balls just as much as i like, and they don't have a clue. yay crazy languages!

This is the biggest failing of the device in my eyes, leaving a microdrive out. sure, Sony would never have put one in because of the piracy aspect, but if i could dump even 4/5GB of mp3 and movies/TV on there, i would go buy one right now. having that fantastic screen and no way of putting any serious quantity of video on it, thats a tragedy. 1GB memory sticks are simply outrageously priced and too easy to lose.
however i read somewhere (sorry, I can't remember where) that UMC are basically small DVDs in funky cases - ie: it follows the DVD 'pit' format. if this is true, it may be that someone starts selling the cases, and I start buying mini-DVDs to feed my burner. if anyone can confirm/refute this rumour, i would be very grateful, as would sony, as they would win £200 from me.
Possibly I'm being a complete retard (it happens), but I fail to see what is grammatically wrong with the sentence you quoted. Maybe it's staring me in the face, but I can't see it. Help me out here?
guess what genius? it's for a GAMING PC. not a webserver. people reading this article aren't running off to install Oracle databases on RAID 0 arrays. they are installing Halflife 2 and chirping with excitement because it loads 9/16ths of a second faster than it used to.
might be pointless, but to be honest, most overclockers are barely interested in the game if they are honest, its more about fine-tuning the system to the nth degree, which can be good fun if you like that sort of thing.
yeah i liked the look of that. but then i thought about BT, and how they are utterly incapable of getting anything right, and seem to exist solely to cripple British Telecoms infrastructure.
If that sort of thing concerns you, have a look at www.metronet.co.uk, I have an excellent 2Mbit service with them, no cap, no weird ToS, excellent support. Ignore all the Pay as you go garbage, thats for light users, just look at the Max cost per month, I think its about £37 inc VAT.
I don't work for them, just a very happy customer.
They want everyone to experience and enjoy their products
Except, of course, for Journalists..

Frankly, Apple can get bent. Whats worse - leaking a trade secret, or manufacturing devices which emitted the necessary tones for phreaking - allowing them to access and manipulate the computers which lay behind the telecoms system? Because I seem to recall Jobs and Woz started out on the wrong side of the law. In fact, wasn't Apple saved by a device which, initially at least, took huge advantage of the illegal trade in mp3s? Fair enough, people rip their own CDs, and now we have ITMS, but once upon a time, all that free music can't have harmed iPod sales. Take your goddamn double standards and shove yourself into your own arse Steve. I know you like it up there.
Shame really, i was looking forward to playing with a nice shiny new Mac Mini. guess i'll have to DIY some Nano-ITX toy instead. fair enough.
and if we didnt pay VAT, what would happen? the items you buy would maintain their prices, but now 100% goes to the company, instead of 17.5% paying for the pavement you walk along each day, the police fire and ambulance services etc etc.
VAT actually hands tax burden to companies. Items cost what the market will stand, then 17.5% goes to the government. I don't understand the attitude toward tax, do you really think you would suddenly become richer if it weren't for VAT? Imagine if they scrapped income tax. all of a sudden, everyone in the country is 22% richer. how long before everything you can buy costs 22% more?the system balances itself out, and the only way to beat this is to earn an spend in different economic environments - buy a flat in london, rent it, move to thailand and live on the difference.
IANAeconomist, this is just what seems inherently obvious to me. no doubt some educated economics wizard can explain it in more detail.
I live in the UK, and very rarely watch broadcast TV. Most of it is cack, and to be honest the good stuff rarely fits in with my general schedule. I used to be all bent out of shape over the £120 odd fee i pay.
however, when you think about it, its not really bad value to fund a corporation that is internationally valued and respected as a provider of news. personally, i think the beeb is something we should be proud of, no matter how hard they try to strip us of this pride with their never ending stream of crap DIY shows and people moving house...
you need to run huge globs of anti-virus software just to stop it being compromised
everyone loves to bash MS here, fair enough. i dont really give two monkeys.
however, i just dont think this is true. i run NAV2004 on my XP box, and it never ever flags anything. now, either this means its just cack (corporate edition is certainly pretty cack), or i just dont get all these viruses. i spend plenty of time surfing around the shady underbelly of the web, with firefox admittedly, and i use my common sense with the email i get, however i havent had a virus in 7 years of varying MS systems.
are you sure this isnt just anti-MS hysteria?

Bad examples are everywhere. so you have a simple choice.
EITHER you ban bad examples, this is going to be fairly challenging. to be honest, the idea that you can shoot police officers and blame entertainment sets a pretty bad example in my book.
OR you bite the bullet and teach your children to differentiate between good and bad. you can use your own personal standards of good and bad; thats your prerogative. that way, they can interpret and deal with the never-ending stream of bad examples the world throws at them.
