If I interpret the photos correctly, they were taken at 0114Z and 0129Z... only 15 minutes more than exactly 24 hours apart. So I think the relative brightness should be the same.
I would go with extra cloud cover in the second photo as an explanation.
I was funny hearing people talking about lightning strikes near Niagara asa possible cause... There was not a cloud in the area at that time.
The DVD player was set to 4:3 instead of 16:9. They all (most) have a setting to tell them what kind of TV you have. There is no way for them to tell automatically.
In fact, a while ago a large number of DVD players defaulted to 16:9. That resulted in many returns by customers because they thought the DVD player was broken. So, now they default to 4:3. I guess they figure if you can afford a new 16:9 TV, you might be bright enough to read the manual.
The entire reason for the Toronto case was inept health care workers that were not on the lookout for these symptoms. BC has not had the kind of outbreak we (Toronto) has had because their healthcare people were on the lookout for these cases. Toronto just put them in a semi-private room and caused the infection of 2 others, and so on. They even sent some home to retirement homes causing the entire place to be quarantined.
Sure there have been some "younger" people die from SARS in Toronto but most are very old. One was 99 years old.
A nurse travelled on a commuter train from Toronto to Burlington and back WITHOUT INFECTING ANYBODY.
Don't tell me no one is safe. That's like saying no one is safe from lightning strikes. That's just sensationalism. If you are not around a hospital with an infected person, you have no chance of contacting the virus. All right, it's not zero, but you have a more likely chance of being struck crossing the street.
I used to burn CDRWs to watch movies on my bigscreen TV. It's a pain. The disks get scratched, takes time to write them, have to carry them betweenn the computer room and the living room.
Now I use BroadQ Qcast using my PS2 and it's network adapter to stream divx/mpeg/mp3 from my desktop to the bigscreen. Now all the files can remain on the desktop, and I can scroll through them all and decide what I want to watch.
In fact I use the PS2 for video more often than playing games. I don't understand why this does not get more press. It does not require any modchip, supports most formats, software gets updated automatically.
It's fairly new, so still has some issues. Like no FF/RW (coming in April) and trouble playing some high resolution files.
But I think it is the best thing I've purchased for the PS2. I first thought I'd use the network adapter for playing online games, but streaming video off the PC is a killer app.
Multimedia editing does not read in the entire file at one time to work on. It reads in a few frames at a time from the file. Are there any operations that require more than 4GB of main memory for video apps?
64bit is needed for large (ASIC synthesis for example) jobs that require you to load the entire image into memory at once. Yes, you can break that job into smaller chunks, but then the complexity gets harder to manage.
With a $50 piece of software (Broadq Qcast), and my network adapter, I am able to watch video and listen to mp3s streamed off my desktop. Now I can watch all those movies and tv shows on my big screen tv instead of the computer monitor.
In fact, I use the PS2 more often with Qcast than with playing games. My TV time is probably now spent 50% watching live tv (mostly sports) and 50% movies or tv shows (no commercials) downloaded using emule.
Unless you have found some way to get the files directly to the xbox without going through your computer, why is the PS2 not better? Just keep the files on your computer, and dont worry about transferring them over.
You can stream from multiple computers if you want, and even stream over the internet if you put the PS2 outside your firewall.
Biggest issue right now is playing higher resolution videos and lack of AC3 surround sound.
The articles never mention the power source for these things. They mention the size will eventually be mere millimeters across, but what kind of battery can you put in something that small?
And if you are restricted to a small battery (or maybe small solarcell) how much power do you have available to broadcast to the other sensors so they can talk to each other.
The technoglogy won't mean much if these things actually become 'DumbDust' after a few minutes (seconds?) of operation.
I'll differ with you on this... With *the same data rates* the divx encoding will provide better video. It's a more efficient compression scheme which allows *more* detail to be encoded.
The issue is that many people encode at abismal data rates so the quality is bad. The file size is 1/2 of the MPEG2 but the quality is worse. Given the same file size in MPEG2 or DIVX and the DIVX will look better.
Just a quick note about the review of the standalone DIVX player... I hope he realized when he wrote that article that there exists a DIVX player for the Playstation2? This is a real player... no mods, no hacks to perform. Just buy the software and play.
It takes advantage of the Sony network adapter for the PS2. I know a lot of people got these for christmas, so there is no additional cost above the cost of the software. The system uses a very little cpu consuming program on the PC to stream the data to the PS2. The PS2 does the decoding in many different formats, and is kept up to date automatically by the PC.
The best part is that you do not have to burn CD/DVD to get them to play. You just stream them right off the PC.
I agree... this should have been given more attention.
Funny, I just picked up the last remaining PS2 network adapter at my local FutureShop simply because I heard they were in short supply. I was wondering what I was really going to do with it (send in the card and wait for Twisted Metal, or go buy Navy Seals).

Call me crazy, but if a tiny spec of dust takes out 10% of your drive, thats a new meaning for the term "tiny".

Nothing new really.
How about the Porsche Boxster? You do not have access to the engine from either the hood or the trunk. It's a mid engine sports car.
The only thing you have is 3 ports in the trunk. One is a dipstick, the other is an oil filling cap, and I believe the third is rad fluid.
Doesn't seem to be hurting Boxster sales.
Where are you?

I need a 1600x1200 for my laptop.
I know I can just stretch the current versions, but that introduces jagged edges which ruins the cool shiney effect.
Anybody able to generate one from the source?
-Thanks
Nice troll....
BTW, this camera can use compact flash cards. That's about as standard as it gets.

I agree completely.

Qcast highly recommended for anyone with a PS2.

Legal divx/mpeg/mp3/jpg player/viewer for the PS2. Requires a network adapter and a PC to stream the content off of. Easy. No modchip required.
