However, since we are using lower end machines, we tend to train them on the Afterstep. If they have a higher end machine, they usually choose Gnome or KDE.

Of course, that's just made up. I don't have the actual statistics or anything. There are more ways to answer a question than radio controls. Besides, the post was meant mostly to be humorous.

  11. Wiring a step back?/Apartments on Internet-Ready Houses For Sale · · Score: 1

The article talks about how wiring when wireless is becoming popular might be a bad idea. One of the reasons for wireless is that it's hard to put in a wire infrastructure after a building is built. I would much rather have Ethernet in the house than a proprietary wireless connection.

Also, has anyone seen apartment buildings that offer Ethernet? It would be alot like college dorms. A manager would have to spend a little to get the bandwidth and everyone wired, but after that, they could start raking in some money. It would also give them an advantage over other apartments. I haven't seen any of that where I live (ND), but is this something that's common in larger cities?

OK, so we can use cut grass smell on other stuff. But what happens if someone gets an obvious fragrance on an air freshener? What if they got the trademark for "new car" air freshener? Yes, it could be rejected on the grounds of prior art, but we know there are loopholes in the system. I could see if someone trademarked a perfume, that's original. But trademarking stuff that already exists can lead to abuse. What would happen if someone trademarked the smell of fruit into a food additive? Trix smell fruity, they may have to stop.

If they want to compete with Intel, why don't they announce plans to bring this to x86 anytime soon? What they're doing currently is not competing with Intel. They're just supporting Apple in its competition with any servers that run on x86, such as NT, Linux, and OS/2. Oops...scratch the last one :) Does anyone actually see this as competition? Do you think any will have their buying strategy based first on the processor and then decide on an OS after it picks the processor? Heck no.
