Boy, you need to go back to rock and roll school. Steve Vai couldn't carry May's jockstrap. I'm fairly certain he'd be the first to tell you that too. And Yngwie fucking Malmsteen????

What, are you going to move the team somewhere a state can give you a better deal? Is every team going to play for Delaware? Why don't the Cities own the team names in the first place? Oh, I get it -- it's like all the oil and mineral rights that states give up because the companies cut a "donation" to a given candidate. It's a lot cheaper for companies to buy politicians than pay for what they take from the people.
Um, there weren't any state funds involved in building the park. The Patriots financed it entirely themselves. The only state funding involved at all was very minor infrastructure stuff on the roads around the stadium.

They don't want to negotiate a peace with us, they don't want us to leave them alone so that they can live as free and happy muslims. They want to kill us all, and then destroy all the other infidels in this world so that they can then create their happy little caliphate. We have been fighting this war half a$$ for too long. And you just can't win a war, especially one like this where we are fighting on their ground in a land not designed to wage major battles, if you don't commit yourself to the fact that its going to be brutal, violent and unmerciful. Isn't it obvious to all of you that these guys don't play by our rules, and our rules are getting our guys killed. So why don't all of you who are complainig so much grow up a little, become real men and help out our fellows soldiers in whatever way you can. They want to win. Well, you're both right!... the island has under 1,000 people the town across the water has over 7,000. The arguments for building the bridge are: 1) The city doesn't have much adjacent developable land because it's all too mountainous... the nearby island has a lot of flat developable land... 2) The airport is on the island. And most importantly... 3) Senator Stevens is on the appropriations committee. The arguments against spending federal money to build the bridge are: 1) It's classic pork-barrel spending on a local, not federal issue. The state of Alaska, and the city involved have their own money to spend on their own issues. And most importantly... 2) Because of the large amount of money and the tiny population of the island it provides plenty of good sound-bites to imply it's particularly frivolous pork. Especially when it was introduced right after Hurricane Katrina and there were a lot of bridges in need of repair there getting a lot less (or no) money.
I believe Stevens also has a financial interest in the undeveloped land on the other side of the water.

  13. Re:Not yet on Is the CD Becoming Obsolete? · · Score: 1

There's a degree to which the psychoacoustic models that schemes like mp3 use actually clean up the noisy mess that all or most all CDs present. The way these schemes hollow out the back of the sound produces something clearer and more delicate - more like live music straight from the amps. Except it really sounds quite different from live music. Good vinyl, on the other hand, can be indistinguishable from live performance if your eyes are closed. CDs never had that. So it's easy to walk away from them. All the discussion of "lossless" misses the point that at the rates CDs are sampled there's already a high degree of loss. Music is inherently analog; digital has to get an order of magnitude better (at least) before it'll be so realistic that it's worth a premium.
What utter nonsense. Vinyl indistinguishable from live performance with your eyes closed? Perhaps if you've never heard a performance with a signal to noise ratio greater than 60dB or so. Which leaves out an awful lot of music.

The thing is, not all adminstrations are created equal. It seems fashionable to say it, oh, it doesn't matter, they all suck and are corrupt, but if there is /anything/ the Bush adminstration has proved, its that they /aren't/ all as self-serving and corrupt. 21. Re:C4 on Open Source vs Affordable Indie 3D Game Engines? · · Score: 1

I've had the license for it for just about a year, which gives me a good perspective on how the development cycle has progressed. In that year there have been about 10 releases. Each one has added functionality. In terms of phyics integration, if by integration you mean integrating other packages, its not as easy as it might be, but its not awful. C4 does, however, have a pretty reasonable phyics engine built in. What I like is that the code is solid, and the engine is built with a certain...how should I say it, unity of vision. Torque is based on something that at this point is pretty old. They've done things to it, but to do that has required a fair amount of cruftiness. C4 is very clean by comparison. Supportwise, as I said, the documentation is a bit lacking, simply because the engine moves forward faster than the documentation can. But the support in the forums is as good as you could wish for. There are a couple of things you might look at to see what I'm talking about: http://www.terathon.com/c4engine/notes.php are the release notes for the various builds. http://www.terathon.com/wiki/index.php?title=Offic ial_Roadmap is the roadmap showing the plan for development and which builds will contain which features. Eric has been pretty consistent in adhering to the roadmap. In brief, its absolutely worth what he charges.

I've licensed both Torque, and C4. C4 is really very very good, and the development is consistently moving ahead at a rapid pace. The only area in which it falls down at all is the somewhat lacking documentation, but it has a very active user community. Its well worth what they charge for it.
