It's not really the registry per se; it's the fact that the Win32 API uses NULL-terminated strings while the underlying NT API uses Pascal strings. You can run into similar problems with the file system for the same reason. This dilemma can't really be fixed due to backward compatibility concerns, so this problem will continue to exist in all versions of Windows into the foreseeable future.
On one hand, the Splinter Cell series was responsible for hours upon hours of wholesome, family fun Muslim killing. On the other hand, Double Agent was a shit fest on the PC. However, Ubi alternates games in the series between Montreal and Shanghai. Original was Montreal; it rocked. Pandora Tomorrow was Shanghai; it was ok. Chaos Theory, by far the best, was Montreal. And Double Agent, quite frankly an embarrassment, was Shanghai. Conviction will be done by Montreal, so there is a good chance it won't be shit, but I feel betrayed after plunking down $50 on Double Agent.
One day I hope to surpass Sam Fisher in number of Muslims killed. It's a tough goal to achieve, I know, but he has inspired me.

You can't get rid of copyrights and keep the GPL. The GPL can only exist if copyright exists.
That being said, I have to agree with the other guy who replied to you. I'm sorry, but it just reads like all you want is free music and don't give a damn about any of the real issues with copyright laws.
Personally, I think copyright laws still serve a vital purpose but the time duration is ridiculously long. The best example of this is in the abandonware scene, which for some reason I think you are familiar with:P (I know I am).
