Why is the cost of a software engineer "inflated"?

As with transistors, and lightbulbs, and anything so cheaply replaceable and duplicatible, software engineers aren't terribly valuable. Seriously, a teacher's salary for you retards should be considered "inflated." And you thought you were a part of some "priesthood," didn't you?

I'm not saying we should *ignore* the "ethical implications" and the "blah blah ethical debate and discussion." It's just that everything there can be covered completely in a single, patronizing 3-hour seminar. You can have it in one of those hotel lobby conference rooms, and invite all the top minds in the debate- namely, people who put 'reverend' before their names with advanced degrees in "education blah blah blah." And while you guys debate your little debate, the rest of the world- and the scientific community, the real one- will just sort of go forward and do its thing. But have fun "debating" and "discussing." I think it's kind of cute, and I'd love to hear about it afterwards- if I have any time.

He is pretty tight lipped about what they are doing with Sony and the PS3 in the article. But if you talk to them in person or in some other interviews the NVidia guys are almost gushing with excitment. And they don't hide their relief to be rid of Microsoft. Slapping a big fat pc video card into a x86 box and then trying to welch out on the contract price when their losses started to mount is now just a painful distant memory now that they are working closely with Sony. Let the guys at ATI take care of that waste of time, there are really exciting things Sony and NVidia are planning together that go beyond the hideous and outdated x86 bus/machine architecture. The PS3 stuff we are doing now is fucking amazing, I shudder to think what Sony and NVidia are hinting at to come in the future.

    3. Change another word and resubmit -> gets rejected and submitter faces a multiplying fine.

  19. 'Analogizing' the debate on Legal Music Downloads Increase in 2005 · · Score: -1

When one thinks of the ongoing struggles of the free music proponents vs. the commercial music proponents one might picture an argument between King Arthur and Robin Hood (fictional example obviously, as King Arthur was not a real person, but it has to be fiction to be an analogy.)
The thing to realize is that both sides not only believe they are working towards the greater good but are objectively doing so even with radically different and diametrically opposed 'solutions' to the problem.

It really puts things in perspective to realize not only that each side is right but that there is more to be gained for each to sit down and figure out what to do with the deer in the forest rather than constantly fighting over territory and methodology.

Unfortunately, this is now a cottage industry for unscrupulous publicity-hungry hacks in academia and elsewhere. Think Clonaid or cold fusion. Come up with some hasty conclusion and make a grand announcement before any data is available or has been tested by others.

Even worse are the lazy journalists who report it. After a New York Times piece last week claimed bisexual males were "lying" [nytimes.com] based on results from a highly questionable study, I reminded their editors of this excellent piece Blinded by Science [cjr.org] in Columbia Journalism Review.

This kind of sloppy reporting is perfect for lazy journalists-- it's a three-for-one deal. They get to break the news, and then later they have a second story when real experts point out the flaws, and a third when the people finally get discredited. More evidence of the shameful state of journalism in this country.

I have a buddy of mine who has a simple principle that he goes by. He says "I am a Leader, not a follower." He does not care what everyone around him says. In many ways this is how the US is and should be.

Many out spoken people around the world bash the US for not doing things their way. I can understand if they don't like how we do things but we are a leader not a follower.

There have been many people in the music industry or the movie industry to bash the way the US does things because we aren't making the rest of the world happy. The music industry and movie industry is filled with people who want to be the center of attention and liked by all. This is the mentality of many, especially those out spoken ones about this. They want to be liked by all, but sometimes making the right decision isn't the popular one. This is where their character failing is with leading.

As far as the rest of the world, over 1 billion in Indian and over 1 billion in China. How many of then know or care what the US is doing here and abroad? (they are 1/3 of the world population) How about Africa? How many of them even have a clue as to what the US is doing?

There are many out spoken people around the world who may not like the US way of doing things but they are not a majority. The loud few are herd over the murmer of the croud.

Not saying the US is perfect but neither are the critics. The US is a leader, not a follower.

Just curious, are you an ESL student? Because "I have a friend of mine" and "Has a simple principle that he goes by" are just hilarious.
