I had a similar question to the OP, but I took the first two years of a CS degree then switched and got a BS in physics. Now I'm a programmer/sysadmin but want to eventually drop the sysadmin part (which got my foot in the door to do the programming, so very helpful). Longer term an MS in CS is where I would like to end up, has anyone else gone back for an undergrad degree in a different field when already holding a BS?
Ugh, my TiVo doesn't get close to finding "gems among the crap", it should be illegal to say that. However, Netflix can't recommend a good movie to me either, at least they have a contest going to try and improve on recommendation technology.
Similarly the actual time of the auction end can be in a "cloud". For example, it could end any time in a 30 minute window, could be in 3 seconds, 3 minutes or 30 minutes, who knows! Exciting too!
According to Carmella, patients who are prayed for have 11% chance of fewer complications, or something to that effect. I'd assume the show was referencing some real study from the way it was presented, not just something fabricated for the show, but who knows.
Newegg is the worst about this, anything remotely negative about a product is edited out or rejected, even the worst gear ever made has 4 stars at that site!
I'd have to agree. My roomate was crazy for the books, and crazy for the movies. I read the books, but could never really get into them. The movies had and still have me hooked!
I guess either I just don't have a good imagination, or the movies really distilled the essense of the books.
A friend of mine, as well as parents of friends have ended up with so much spyware and junk on their computer, they couldn't really get on the net. Loads of Browser Hijack Objects (BHO's) and the like.
Basically now, I install AntiVir http://www.free-av.com/ and Adaware http://www.lavasoft.com/ , and together they can do a pretty great job of cleaning the computer. Toss on Firefox and say "Use this, not IE" and they have been in pretty good shape!
In any case, lots of people here have the skill to help them out, share it! I'm sure most already do!
It's a good thought, but I already get tons of spam that says "Virus Found On Your System, Run This Immediately!" or something similar. It would seem unlikely that another, even legitimate, email about your system being "insecure" might not make it through the noise.
Torino Scale: Events Meriting Concern (Yellow Zone) Level 2: A somewhat close, but not unusual encounter. Collision is very unlikely.
The scale goes up to 10 (A collision capable of causing a global climatic catastrophe. Such events occur once per 100,000 years, or less often), so 2 seems pretty good!
The summary makes this asteroid sound extremely dangerous, did I miss something?
I predict that quantium crypto computers will be so large as to fill an entire building, and only the 5 richest people in the world will be able to afford them
Well Apples business model is anything but successful. In fact, it is probably the worst of the 3 most common business models. Their approach of doing about everything in house suits people like Intel, behemoths with the cash, than the comparative little guys like Apple who statisticly do better when they farm out certain things (like manufacturing, which apple recently started doing). But to say Apple uses a sucsessful business model, one that took them from the top of the pile to the bottom, is unresearched at best.

anybody get a cache of the site before the server melted?
he seems to be the only person that consistently "gets it." Does he need a surrogate to carry his children?
It was the best of times, it was the BLURST of times?!
Greatest. File system. Joke. Ever.
Umm...the bag never clogs, because it doesn't have one. Filters get clogged, they are DESIGNED to get clogged. That is what filters do.

with a reported seven bedrooms, six kitchens, 24 bathrooms, a domed library, a reception hall and an artificial estuary stocked with salmon and trout.
I bet the 1:3.4 ratio of sleeping to dumping at Gates' place has to be the highest in the nation.

Really, the FBI said that? They didn't say "this is a huge problem and we got caught with our pants down"?

Torino Scale
Level 4: A close encounter, with 1% or greater chance of a collision capable of causing regional devastation.
Alright that is getting a little scarier
Torino Scale:

HAHAHA, that is awesome, I nearly crapped myself, honestly I have a loose stool, guess that other guy couldn't take a joke...
