Even professional console developers use PS3Linux at home and work for prototyping. If they sold a Debugging Station for $2000 I'd rather do that, but then you need to do all that legal bullshit. Also taking kits home would set a bad example / end up losing kits depending who does it.:D
It takes more effort, sure. However you can run about any game under Linux now. You might need to have a special patched version of Wine for a certain game ( eg QuakeWars and Eve ), but often you just need to tune 'off-the-shelf' versions ( Oblivion and Morrowwind ).
It's not for everyone, but I like the flexibility and the cost. I don't have to buy Windows to play the game for example, or boot out of my main OS either. I should disclose I'm the guy that wrote a few patches and HOWTOs for Wine games. If you can follow simple instructions and have an Nvidia GPU that supports OpenGL 2.1+ you're set for the most part. I'm waiting for reports from AMD ( ATi ) users to see if the new drivers have any effect on the dismal performace and support of OpenGL and more specifically GLSL. The more choice for GPUs on Linux the better.
You shouldn't be buying laptops that pre install Vista. There are dozens of vendors that'll sell you a Linux laptop now, and some of them have better features than ones bundled with Windows. In the future just buy a Linux pre-installed laptop, and don't worry so much. Dell, Lenvo, and System76 are popular brands. There are also some custom builders if you want a nice, portable OpenGL workstation.
There is always OpenGL, which will work on Windows XP, Windows Vista, OS X, and Linux. With macs finally getting OpenGL 2.1 and the other platforms getting OpenGL 3.0 it could become more than just very compelling. It would mean you could make a hell of a lot more money for very little effort. ^^
You can get an Nvidia GPU on a laptop for under $800. That's all most people want. Also it has real buttons for the track pad, and a built in web camera. ( The one I think is best. )
That's the problem with Apple -- there is no real choice.
Yes, that is my point-- Apple currently makes a unified GLSL driver for both, and it's not worth a shit for either. I guess I have to spell it out for you. Also your "run better" comment is bullshit. I'll call you out on that too.:0
ATi is such a joke, and the unified GLSL on OS X is a joke of a joke. Wake me when OS X gets GLSL support on par with Nvidia on Linux at least. Apple should drop ATi for horrible performance, and let Nvidia write a better driver for their own GPUs. I quit using any apple product, so I have no idea if they're even addressing this issue. It is a joke when Linux has better commercial graphics support.
The Linux nvidia-settings multimonitor support ***GUI*** is better than the ones in Windows already. You can drag and drop your screens around and do unmatched resolutions, etc. And you don't even have to disable Beryl while you do it.;)
I mostly listen to music from Japan and Brazil now. I'm sure the RIAA will try and pull down the radio stations playing mostly non-English / other regional music still -- but only in the US. Many internet radio stations are already considering a move to Canada even when they play such artists due to the law. Will the RIAA 'collect' fees for Cuban and Iranian artists too? I'm sure that'll go over well.
Also, how much of an intersection do you really see between the set of people with old TVs that don't spend any money on television service and the set of people who are early adopters for the PS3 ? That's a small Venn Diagram, but the point is this article is from 2005. Also it's actually about upscaled DVD9. Thanks for playing however. I'm serious when I say even I can't believe I have less faith in slashdot editors with every one of these 'stories'. If you're going to just spew hate on Blu-Ray go to the trouble of making a false weblog or something. This article was made so long ago it didn't even consider PS3 with Blu-Ray.
Are you fucking stupid? Read the amazon.com fourm which the rumor used as a basis of claim. If the DVD plays on samsung / jvc / etc and NOT on a SONY -- how the fuck do you get it's some new DRM scheme from SONY on the disc being the problem? It's clearly an issue with the pressing and/or player. Think.
Welcome to Digg 2.0... this appears to just be SONY / Toshiba players having issues playing a disc that works on other players. It's clearly not some new DRM scheme if it works on existing players. =)
If I post a blog saying how stupid slashdot has become with any stupid meme is the OMG truthyness. Why not post about the possible Red Ring of Death from the Guitar Hero II patch too? I love how the internet and blogs are being used to spread a bunch of half-assed rumors like this. At some point you have to take a step back before hitting that 'OMG sumbit story to digg/slash', and see if it's even a valid concern or some asshat marketing firm/fanboy.
Yes, those powers were given by an overzealous Congress recently in an effort to get reelected without even reading the bills. Where have you been? It's not checks and balances when Congress is trying to micromanage the Iraq war and international relationships. The Washington Post recently had an article accusing Pelosi of a "shadow presidency" after her Middle East gaff. If you honestly think it's fine think about if Tom Delay did the same thing with a Democrat president.
You can't seriously blame Bush for all of that. For example do you remember who was pushing for moving FEMA into DHS? That's all moot anyway, and you should read a social studies textbook before you speak about the powers again -- several of the items you list are perfectly legal and in the purview of the president. I also supported Bill Clinton's "grabs at power" if that's what you consider firing AGs... and he fired every single one for political reasons. I don't even want to bring up Janet Reno, since the Ruby Ridge nuts will come out. I will say one thing -- what have the Democrats elected accomplished with all this? "First Hundred Days" was a flop, and now they're just doing endless digging for trials. I'm sure you supported the attacks on Bill Clinton in his last days in office the same.
It's not a violation of the act. You have to use separate phones/email for "political purposes" ask Al Gore about his hearing for using the White House phone to drum up donations. Get your facts right. You can't force the White House to use government owned systems for that -- THAT is illegal. They could have stored copies of of the off-site system sure... but they have no law forcing them to do that. I hate to break it to you but you also can't force staff members to turn over their home answering machines either. What a weak troll. Even if you hate Bush you shouldn't stand for the power grab the Congress is going for lately. There is a reason we have a separation of powers. If you keep heading down this road the president becomes a figurehead, and soon the people that write the laws will be enforcing them as well. More likely not enforcing them and building bridges to nowhere.
PS3 version of SI isn't out yet. Maybe it's a good thing. The PS3 version is superior to the 360 version with the new shaders and additional content. Yes, buy the game for every platform.;)
...with features like Bloom and other nice features. The real story is that the engine used for GoW:PSP is being licensed to other developers. Once that happens expect a ton of much better looking games.
The PSP isn't for want of games mind you. If you actually read charts the number of games for the DS and PSP are roughy the same, and the PSP has much more multiplayer titles. Also you can import all the games and add-ons from one territory to the next without installing a modchip. The main difference is brand loyalty from kids that grew up on whatever nintendo released. The DS doesn't appeal to me at all, but I'm not some kid playing pokemon or various minigames. I mostly play Japanese title on mine aside from Metal Gear and Killzone in English. The PSP is the best entertainment you can have on a plane bar none. The new firmware lets you have fullscreen movies too. That's the real killer feature is they keep expanding functionality. They should have had that support sooner however... my wishlist would be a hobby API so I could make a PDF reader instead of using pdftopng and zooming all over. I would even make it for free. =)

I still don't have a ruby tag for furigana in firefox / gecko. Even MSIE6 has that... it's the only W3C standard it has over firefox.
Wait until you see the fullscope polygraph! zing!

Weclome to diggdot.org... would you like fries with your lies?
Dude, you must not have seen the Lineage II figures on the other site yet. Much sexier than night elves!

You might want to check the history for the last Mongoose update in case asshats from slashdot add bullshit to the wiki entry.
Yeah, you'll be getting LCDs once everyone else gets OLEDs... and you seem to be happy about that. =/
