    There's no delay, in fact on the west coast we get shows usually 2 hours before they air locally because they've already aired on the east coast and get posted on usenet nearly instantly.

    This sounds obsurd, but the guy needs to install video cameras pointed at all this computers. If its truly educating his family that is his goal, the sheer obtrusiveness of this idea will prove a point and make family members careful. And if they truly are ignorant of possible threats and do something that compromises security, then they can go over the footage together. Should be easy to install, fairly cheap and get the point across. How did this make front page?

    Last I looked there was no sound, no wirelses, no modem, no touchscreen, no acceleromater, no sound... It's probably a little more than a breaths away. However, it's inevitable that it will happen and when it does Android will be the "open" ver of the iPhone. Simple as that, no need to open up the Apple variant of OSX for the iPhone. Just like if I wanted to I can run OS X on my Mac or Linux if I wanted something else. The choice will be there.

    Boo, I'd say that's wrong, 10.1 -> 10.2 > 10.3 were all huge updates. You could equate them to 98 -> 2000 -> XP (sorta) Heck you even had to pay for them each separately.

    it's just really a hack. I mean, as good as Wine is, it will never compete with a browser which is designed to run natively on a platform.

    WINE is an implementation of the Windows API. This implementation is native, so you can say that applications are in fact running natively.

    Copy and pasted from Wine faq:

    4.3. Is Wine slower than just using Windows?

    Actually, Wine is sometimes faster. The speed of an application depends on a lot of factors: the available hardware and their drivers, the quality of the code in the APIs the application uses, and the quality of the code in the underlying operating system.

    Driver code matters a lot. If you're running a graphics-heavy application using a video card with very poor drivers such as an ATI card under Linux, performance will degrade substantially. On the other hand, Linux has superior memory management, and comes out ahead of Windows in many CPU-related tasks; see benchmarks for more information.

    Sometimes, bugs in Wine can make applications excessively slow; see Performance-related bugs.

    These's guys have doing this for a long time...

    The problem is enough people fall for this to make it profitable for them... basically like spam.

    When I was working in webhosting, I don't know how different customers would call us asking about these "invoices" and if they should pay them or not... or asking why they have to pay us since they already paid them.... probably hundreds.

    It always annoyed me how they could get away with it...

    "might finally put the lackluster Java-based cell phone gaming market to death" I thought "Lackluster" was being generous. When was the last time you've heard someone say "OMG! You've got to play that 'insert java game here' on my cellphone!" Handheld consoles like the DS or PSP should be the ones quaking in their boots.

    Its just DNS software How often times do you hear. "Lets take that old hardware that's being decommissioned and make it the DNS server, it's just DNS."

    DNS performance should not be an afterthought, as nearly everything relies on it so improper/inefficient setup can cause problems for anything on the wire... heck even ADS relies heavily on DNS.

    I suppose now we have to wait until "Windows XP Service Pack 3" Service Pack 1 comes out before it becomes usable. It would be Windows Service Pack 3a like back when we had NT SP6a. =)

    Doh, i jumped the gun, I saw this article:

    If I understand this correctly, if you go get yourself a card, fill it up with a minimal $5, you pretty much can get 2 hours of free wireless anytime?

    Sounds like a good deal, most of the time you really only need to check your mail or "look something up" quickly anyway... and with Starbucks being pretty much everywhere, this seems like a nice convenience. Great for people like me with an iPod Touch.

    Putty and openssh clients can act as a SOCKS proxy server.

    Simply ssh to your machine at home... direct Pidgin / GAIM / MSN (or any SOCKS capable app) to use your new local proxy server and your traffic is hidden from corporate big brother.

    Once traffic leaves your machine to the internet, it's goes out unencrypted as usual... only useful to not let the boss know you've got to pick up milk on the way home.

    Also, careful this doesn't hide DNS traffic.

    Lies, lies and more lies... do I sound bitter? You're damn right I am, having been a paid subscriber since Dec 2003.

    There was a rumor going around that SOE's contract with Lucas ends this coming May. I'd be surprised if SWG is around after that.

    The only way this game would draw it's previous numbers is to roll back to pre NGE and start servers up again, leaving the existing NGE game running for whoever wants it. And ha, what are the chances of that... good bye SWG.

    Approximately 6 months ago, you guys did what was supposed to be the holy grail combat upgrade. Why didn't you guys do what is happening now back then?

    Alot of people dedicated a lot of time and spent a lot of money to embrace and adapt to the new system 6 months ago and changing again now is a slap in the face to them.

    Even finally now that many of bugs from the first CU are starting to be cleaned up.

    Response from the test servers all indicate that this is as buggy if not more buggy than when the first CU was launched... basically just throwing away 6 months of development time, and as well 6 months of time and effort from a very dedicated player base. How is this a good business decision?

    Almost any GSM phone will have a version of the firmware with Chinese support, as almost all GSM phones were released in China/Hong Kong at one point. You may need to convince someone at your telco to flash your phone with the equivalent models firmware from asia... which they may or may not do... (Fido in Canada does it if you can convince the technician that you need it) or if you want to do it yourself, you can usually buy a datacable of some sort and get the software yoruself, via always google/ebay. But of course, if you don't know what you're doing, you may destroy your phone. =)

    As for Japanese, it's probably a different story.
