if they can just get rid of these friggin tiny keyboards
I'm still using my old-skool ADB keyboard with my G3. Before the iMac, Apple shipped two types of keyboard, Design and Extended - basically the same thing. There was very little market for third party makers because unless you busted yours, it worked just fine.
I personally feel that they got paid off from some of those third party manufacturers who come out with a standard USB keyboard that allows you to dump the cruddy iMac style board.
this seems to be the thing most complained about with the current Macs, that and the long wait for OS X client
this type of thing is really scary... I mean giving a government a BFG is one thing, some cracker gaining access to that BFG is another thing entirely.
I would much rather have someone hack into my automated home system and put my coffee maker on the fritz than have a tank drive through my living room.
As for code, I use someone else's to develop my own. I then offer to give it away for free.
When it comes to beer - I brew my own, then give some of it away for free, and teach others on how to make it on their own. Brewing can be open-sourced as well. more information at: http://www.umich.edu/~nsbc

CONCLUSION: Probably conspires with Osama bin Laden and uncaptured Unabomber (not scapegoat Kaczinsky) to undermine and overthrow U.S. Government. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. Proceed with caution as to not throw target into hacking fit. Possible revelation to public of location of ECHELON HQ.
Actually - we're pushing that now. Since the mission that took David Bowman, Frank Poole, Hal and the others out to Jupiter supposedly took 18 months to get there... so we would need to find that thing soon so that we can build the ship, teach Hal how to think and launch the mission in the next 3 months - minimum...
I hope to not catch too many flames from the Libertarians, but we could very well serve as a cluster of like-minded voters.
Not many people will disagree with me that there are laws that need to be changed, but the question remains - what should they be changed to? It is a lot more productive to not just start spouting out subjective opinions that certain things are wrong or right without weighing the options - and proposing resolutions.
Create propositions such as drop this law because (reason 1, 2, 3) cahnge this law to this other different law, or we really could use this other law. Discuss them to iron out the faults, get other's opinions (a forum like this works fairly well). Finally - press someone with power to make these changes.
That is the reason for democracy, and I suggest that we use it.
I wonder how many women play as men? There are a lot of other questions to be explored here as well - such as do women reap similar benfits as those expressed in the survey results in their game play or even in real life?
I like to use RealPlayer G2 under X, but unfortunately it takes as much CPU time as it can get
Have you ever watched top while listening to a real stream? It's demanding, but not quite as much as when you try to pause that stream - it shot up to 85% use on my box until I hit play again....
On the other hand, I would much rather have an academic institution patent it - and therefore a public reserch institution hold an ownership - instead of some large, untrustworthy money grubbing fat-pig capitalist corporation that might bow down to oil pressure, and bury this tech for hundreds of years to come.
this would easily solve most of the concerns posted on this page
Simply take the posted open source, and pick out the enhancements. Place into your own code, and voila! Your distribution makes theirs obsolete. That and the fact that most people will want to use a distro that is at least somewhat popular - or roll their own entirely from *raw* materials.

Proprietary software is like socialism, with Microsoft the epitome as communism.
Au contraire... mon frere. I would call Microsloth more of a facist dictator, forcing everyone to adopt their corrupt regime - or else (drag finger across neck). Socialism/Capitalism are economic systems, democracy is a governing system. Sweden implements both, and does a fairly decent job of it.
Open source is more like socialism. In a co-operative system, everyone is equal, contributes labor to an organized cause, and everyone is entitled to equal benefits. Sound familiar? There is nothing inherently wrong with socialism - the problem with the large, failed implementations that we were facing during the cold war, were the tactics they used strong-arm tactics to keep their members in line. One drawback to co-operation is the lack of competition - which is the redeeming quality to capitalism.
Where in the capitalist framework do you fit code-reuse? At least in the open source movement, there is a mix of competition with co-operation so that those guiding the path don't get complacent and sloppy. It also helps to be working under the shadow of Microsoft, so that there are constantly critics questioning the quality open source software. This pushes the community to refine until it's bullet-proof... almost.
If I were to get caught sending a string like, let's say:
cn2!34r9"$0safvlq324C&V9024:8
Which decrypts to "here is the super-secret code number" But they demand a plaintext version, so I give them something like "I think your sister is cute, give her phone number" along with an encryption key that creates the exact same cypher text that they captured?
ahh - I wonder if they'll block gay sites too (which is a major party plank of the Republicans as well) we have progressed socially, though not much from the time of Alan Turing...
If Jean Louis were to follow the pack and go with digital democracy, open-sourcing the BeOS could push this sort of thing into overdrive. To combine the digital media capabilities with the most peer-reviewed OS around has got to be a great thing.
Until that time, Linux should probably focus on building market share by improving the Gimp and developing a strong vector graphics app to compete with the main 2 commercial OSes. Only by gaining a market share by slowly building people's confidence in the product can attract the proper attention. Otherwise, you'll get Joe Hollywood-Wannabe trying this system out, and finding the man pages way too convoluted to follow. Video editing for Linux will gain a bad rap and go by the wayside, unfortunately crippling an otherwise fat-potential business within the next handfil of years.
By the way, aside from pure evolution - what kinds of long-term goals do the Linux community forsee?

bad-ass
Too bad lawyers don't donate their time and expertise like OS programmers do!
Isn't that what the ACLU is for? Read the THE FINANCIAL PICTURE at bottom of their info page

So - how am I supposed to find out about all the cool new X10 products?
This is irrelevant. Windows just hit version 2000... does that really big number make it more stable? Dunno - we'll see.

perhaps "Fist of Legend" will get released after all these damn DVD delays...

Who would be the wiser?
Don't forget the triple-X rating of this year's (and the next 5) superbowls...
perhaps someone could write an open source agent that would "decrypt" legalese into plaintext english...

well, if you can't sue them you can always stir up some public outcry and boycott them.
