Microsoft actually reverse engineered the reverse engineering. They can tell what keys were generated and what weren't because of the algorithm that the older keygens used.
There are newer keygens, however, that are based off of the Genuine Advantage software itself, that can give you a passing key.
This is according to legitimate news sources, so don't blame me.
But everyone is saying since Microsoft suddenly has a good presentation layer that they're "copying Apple", but Windows was made to hit a much wider target than OSX. Microsoft's old presentation layer worked on old machines with bad (or non-existent) video cards. That doesn't exist on a Mac. Now Microsoft has decided that the saturation of 3D acceleration is high enough for them to be able to make this work.
You gotta remember, you can change a whole lot that won't come out in screenshots. A good example is the difference between the 2.4 and 2.6 kernels in linux. Vastly different, but all a screenshot will tell you is they have a different version number.
However, 'just' a new UI and Transparancy actually required a rewrite of the presentation layer, that means most graphical programs (once they take advantage of it) will run much much faster, instead of the old fashioned GDI they used that had been around for years.
But these guys aren't getting their shipments via different methods, or something that THEY have control over, It's dependent on the shipping company that Scholastic chooses to ship to them with.
A foot race where no one is allowed to run faster than anyone else isn't a fair competition at all. As long as these companies aren't doing anything abusive, there's no reason to handicap them.
No, this is a foot race where everyone starts at the same point, how fast they run (the price) is up to them.
It doesn't acually use an old marine radar, as much as it uses an old marine radar display. It pulls doppler radar data off the internet, and displays it on the screen mounted in the old radar display case.
Would it be possible to rig up a barcode based key exchange using the CueCat?
I bet barcodes can't hold enough information. Ah well, it'd be geekily cool.
Expose does rock, but Ive found on older Macs (or maybe just old iMacs where I've hit this problem) it's surprisingly slow. I wonder if they use some trick that's only present on new Macs.
No, Apple is shiny gold, hobbles around, and screams "Oh dear" a lot.
You know...nice to look at and polite to you, but ultimately not very useful and can't run very fast.
Well, in a way, it DID take advantage of stupidity, in that the patches to fix the problem were already available. The virus took advantage of the fact that most users hit "remind me later" when Windows tells them to update.
If they'd all been Mac users, and not kept their systems up to date, there'd have been a different virus that took exploited Mac flaws (and yes, there are security vulnerabilities in Macs if you leave them unpatched) and the users' ignorance.
Remember, Apple's mantra is 'Users are Idiots'. They simplify everything from the buttons on the mice to the error messages.
Really, it's probably part of their 'Keep the UI as SIMPLE as possible' ideals. If they don't think a standard user will be able to do anything with that information, don't even bother telling them.
I'm installing Gentoo on my 386DX/16, however I'm leaving the turbo button turned off (so I don't end up with any corruption due to overclocking) so it's running at a whopping 8MHz. I expect it to be done sometime shortly before the sun burns out, at which time I can install a 5 person IRC server, and tell four other people how 1337 I am for having my Gentoo box, and yeah, that sun thing sucks too, anyone for one last cyber?
Shareaza uses the G2 network to search for other sources for a trackerless or dead torrent. This is something that no other client did, but still is not as efficient as one would think, mainly because 'global' searches don't reach quite as far as they need to to be effective. However, Azureus is using a technology known as DHT to accomplish the source discovery. This is much more efficient than most of the current P2P topologies (G2, Gnutella, ED2K). Long story short, it's mainly useful for situations where you know a unique identifier for an object, and need to find someone else with that same object. In this case the hash of the torrent is unique, and the address of someone else downloading it is what you want.
A few P2P networks have added DHT overlays to their networks for source finding, while still using the traditional network for the much less precise keyword finding. Morpheus has Neonet and eDonkey has overnet. eMule has Kademlia, which also searches by keyword in the DHT.
This is a preview build for hardware makers to test their hardware and drivers. It is NOT a beta, it's more of an alpha. NOT feature complete, and NOT meant to show off the capabilities of Longhorn.
Sheesh, people.
At least have the intelligence to tell the diffrence between a beta and a preview build.
I have NEVER installed Linux and had all of any system's hardware work fine. I have yet to get Xinerama (using dual nVidia cards) to work. I rarely am able to get sound cards to work. I have at least two mainstream network cards that don't work, and one I can only get to work through patching. Modems are even more touch and go.
I very rarely have a problem getting hardware to work in Windows, and if I do, it's usually a simple driver update to fix.
But hey, linux is on my servers, and I don't need the video and sound for them. My desktop is a different story.

"I'm disappointed," said Firebaugh, 63. "Where can someone over 40 who doesn't smoke or drink or go to bars meet someone?"
;-)
Hasn't he ever head of IRC?
Because she was only 25 pounds! *rimshot*
I'm saying that everyone copies everyone.

So anyone that makes a UI with shadows and transparancy is just copying Apple from now on?

And how about the concept of multiple virtual desktops that hasn't even made it over to Windows yet - I really miss that.
I refer you to Microsoft's Virtual Desktop Manager part of their Windows XP Powertoys.
I rarely use multiple desktop capability myself, I prfer the multiple monitor approach.

I feel your pain. I also worked at Radio Shack during this over-hyped roll-out. Remeber the audio cables for the TV audible cues?

You could use this: http://simcity.ea.com/play/simcity_classic.php
But it only works in IE. *sigh*
I'm uncertain...

I was JonXP long before Microsoft (kinda) stole my good name in 2001, thankyouverymuch. Still a sore spot with me.
*laments missed copyright oppurtunities*
I can't tell if you're joking or not. That's just about how I feel about desktop linux.
