Open office is fucking gash, seriously.
It'll do the job if you don't want or can't afford MS Office, but to suggest it in a list of best apps on Windows is a farce.
It slow, huge, buggy, terrible user interface etc.
Example 1 - Write a 'Word' (or 'text' - ugh) document and numbered headings (1.1, 1.1.1). Get to the end of 50 page document and after review find you need to add more sections in the middle. Attempt to add more sections. Find that adding new numbers doesn't change work properly, causing you to have to manually edit 50 pages of numbers. Import into Word in a desperate attempt to finish your document. Find that the document structure is so broken Word can't fix it. Tear your hair out.
There are people as good as or better than you who'll do your job for less. We used to think we could 'add value' by being better than the 'code-monkeys' abroad, but I don't think this is any longer the case.
The short future is projects managed in US but implemented abroad - the far future is too scary to think about at all - they're gonna take all our jobs:(.
Mock if you want but our manager was saying bandwidth for a looooong time before todays Dilbert arrived. We've now stuck today's up on the project board.
Agreed. In my work placements at University I was putting 'funny' comments and debug output in code. I got pulled aside by the manager and told it was definately not on. I thought he was being a bit boring at the time but now looking back I can see it was a geat piece of advice.
The War on Terrible Planet Names has begun ;).

Linux advocates in ambitious targets shocker ;) - we're trying to take on a multi-billion pound company here - we *must* be ambitious.

If people only use it to save money it's hardly the most glowing recommendation is it?
Or the equivalent of a Supersized meal from McDonalds...
Excitement is created by 'newness' No-one wants 'newness' in user interface controls which keep them from the functionality of the software!

It's totally silent in my office the whole time - that's sociable engineers for you!

I'll stop using swearwords in my code when my manager stops using ridiculous buzzwords like 'bandwidth' and 'drill down'.

That's funny. I, and millions of others, use Firefox on Windows. So, what exactly are you talking about?
