I'm really looking forward to seeing how this plays out. MS and Google are going to be knocking heads over this, it's Goliath vs Goliath and I reckon it's going to be a juicy bit of spectator sport. OTOH one side might just lose interest then it'll be boring - but we'll see...
Ludo thats a board game? yeah, but I guess we are talking electronic gaming here, so that would be the Lakeside Computer Perfection which I got in 1979 and recently got one on ebay for 4 quid for ol' times sake. My first computer gaming experience was some 'move this pixel towards that pixel' £1.99 on the Sinclair ZX81 from W.H.Smiths.
yeah this is great until some 'low-level clerk' decides it's a good idea to mail the entire database on CDs in response to an agencies request. where the data is that widely dispersed the security is only as strong as it's weakest link (goodbye!) so let's hope lessons are learned by recent events and agencies implement a good clear and concise security methodology to protect the data. Well, that's assuming it ever takes place.
If you really don't want to download it then it's on the coverdisk of some magazines, in the UK it's in PC Pro for example with updated versions each month. It does seem small minded of the ISP to behave this way - but hardly the end of the world.
It's not surprising, wires seem so 90's when I stop to look at my wireless network, home phone, printer, 5.1 surround sound speakers (yeah it is cool)
Won't be long till wireless power is an everyday thing.
that we all helped pay for this by purchasing endless amounts of plastic tat and other cheap Chinese goods.
So let's all take pride in those moon shots.
This is progress, the more this happens the better the choice for the consumer. It shows the vendors that users prefer OS choices a la Dell. True, this is but 1 user but every little helps as we say in the UK.
Yeah that'll be in version 1.1 - the unfortunate bug in.9 meant that the cats were fed to the dogs, the gutters were cleaned with the laundry, and the cat litter was emptied into the dishwasher.
you are so right, these rovers are a testament to the rover team's diligence and sheer hard work. Think about it, they have sent two rovers to another planet which have had quite a few adventures and advanced mankind's understanding of Mars considerably. What have we done at work today?:-) You know what I mean though?

LOL! 'drug your finger'!
surely 'dragged your finger'?
You can tell the old school DOS techs as they call directories 'directories', the new breed call them 'folders' which sounds wrong. So yes, it's DIR(ectory listing) but if it helps you can always knock up a batch file called fol.bat so you can type FOL instead if it helps?
huh? How's what I said in any way flamebait? I've been using Windows since 3.1 and after many iterations I wrote my thoughts about a switch to a Linux distribution and got called flamebait - huh. Seems like thos MS fan-boys are taking over this board. I think I've had it with MS and their crowd - the asking price for Vista is wayyyyyy beyond what I'm prepared to pay for an OS. XP left a hole in my wallet but VIsta is just beyond the pale, I'll not be donating any more to Bill's retirement fund.
Hmmmmm, I'm getting really fed up with reading stories like this. For me, the whole Windows pain experience is coming to a head with continuous spyware stories, malware, virus/worms, the cumulative Windoze effect and the forthcoming Vista licencing restrictions. Hey wait! what's this? Why it's an Ubuntu CD, looks cool, does web browsing, email and I can even use my existing docs and spreadsheets on it. Nice one, and I don't see *nix been reported daily as having nasties installed just by surfing as well - very tempting. I wonder if Orbiter plays on it in emulation mode? Looks like I'll be finding out real soon:-)
and for those still trying to work it out the answer is 1,000,000 emails in the inbox. Funny enough though, due to an ISP misconfig, one of my well-spammed mailboxes has near 150,000 emails in the inbox and I refuse to delete any. So it works out 99.99333r% is spam! I use it to test anti-spam packages.
oh I do like it when everyone shouts about stuff they do not understand. If you really look into the actual fix you will discover it only relates to an old version of the ePo agent and not the core antivirus product. 2ndly, out of the box the AV product has a lot of options switched on which may slow down older PCs with certain configurations. It calls for some analysis and tuning on your part but you can get World Class Virus/Worm/Malware protection without compromising your PCs speed. Before trumpeting that such and such a vendor's product is better because it doesn't slow your PC down, please make sure you read the comparative studies to see why that may be.
sniff sniff - it does smell like BS.
So, first he says he reduces the image to 4-bit color and turn the resolution very low - then states he didn't see rivets or seams. Well, WTF did he expect to see? Prolly a big grey blob next to a greeny/blue blob then made the big leap and came up with UFO!
Well excuse me for been sceptical. Court case? Circus more like:-D
Good comment. The Internet as I remember it was FTP, SMTP, TELNET, Gopher and Usenet. One day on Usenet someone asked me if I had tried "this new web browser" - it was Mosaic and the date was around 1994. If I remember correctly there was no address bar as we know it today and you had to click File, Open URL or press CTRL-O. - ahh happy days.
Anyway, back to topic, I used to be able to dial up an X.25 PAD which gave you dialup X.25 access to ARPANet. So this kind of ties in with Wargames.

yeah but in that case you would just switch the lights off and think of England

oh I just spent an hour on that amazing website, please don't post that url again ;-)

also, wow! first post. After all these years, blimey o'reilly.

How is the 'chain of custody' maintained here? Can the data be admissible due to the opportunity for tampering?
You could show any speed in the data.

I for one... no don't go there.

I agree, come-on Cowboy Neal - let's have a poll - Web 2.0 is:
* Shite
* Marketing pony
* Something to make the mindless millions open their wallets - again
* What all geeks dream of at night
