Am I the only one here that actually read the flippin article? It says:
"Even more importantly, if an unauthorized person tries to record the knocking sequence and play it back in order to open the door, the lock will not open since the knocking sequence changes every time"
So 'knobs' to your peasant microphone lunacy.

Someone at MS has had a brain bypass. Surely at some board meeting somebody would have mentioned that the current 15ish AV and security companies are going to create a storm with anti-trust suits etc. If they thought the Media Player trials were bad they haven't seen anything yet. You know, I like MS - hell respect them even - but c'mon guys fix the OS before offering something to defend against the vulns and sploits. We know it's GeCAD antivirus your punting, so when's the last time that came in the top-ten of virus detection products? Jeez Louise.
LOL! quick find excuses and reasons while Bill's browser is a poorer choice and couldn't possibly be gaining any kind of market share over our beloved FireFox.
Oh No! someone dared to post an article which contains a FF negative - scream - help - call the police
yeahhh! a fellow LJ4 and 5 fan.
I needed one for a new company I work for, they needed a reliable printer they could print invoices and letters. I love the LJ4 so I looked for one.
I got a LJ4+ from ebay for £50 (c. $80) and the thing rocks! 2000 pages later on the same toner and it's still going strong!
They sure don't build them like they used to!
So let's see:
2nd hand LJ4 was £50
New toner cart was £64
Pages printed is 2000
Do the math: Thats 5.7p per page and falling!
I expect to get 3000 pages out of this toner so that's 3.8p per page.
I worked out that the inkjet printer it replaced was costing 8p per page. OK so it's not going to affect the trading price of the company but it's the principle that's at stake here!
I said it before and I'll say it again:
The IT training companies are rubbing their hands together will glee as all those students will need Windows training so they can work on PCs with applications that most companies are using. i.e. Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Office and Microsoft Servers.
yeah specific like . . . submarines!
No, seriously though what about pedestrian underpasses? when the juice goes out I don't wanna be halfway through one of those when a power cut hits - imagine... echoey, very dark, then you hear odd shuffling sounds from behind you and from the drain grates - shudder - like a James Herbert novel!
This is an excellent example of advancing something that we take for granted. Although the idea of carrying one of these is really bad considering the thin glass walls of the tube, as a safety device it makes sense for these to be fitted to shops, warehouses and offices.
yeah and don't forget Microsoft never read/. and they don't know about this so called hack so it will never get fixed.
I reckon this 'hack' will last a few days at the most.
? ? ? ? ?
WTF you talking about?
Dells are reliable as hell, this ones been running non-stop for a couple of years.
Let's just clarify that:
I have not switched it off for two years.
and I have never seen a BSOD on it - or my colleagues desktops/laptops - or the PowerEdge server (I had 3 x 6600 and 3 x 1600sc) and not a minutes trouble.
I've been using Dell hardware since the early square beige machines and I'd stake my 16 years of IT experience on them.
As stated by other posters it really doesn't matter how many times it is downloaded - it has no bearing at all on usage - what will happen is that downloads will exceed human population.
A more accurate gauge may be hits when FireFox checks for updates - but even that may be blocked by firewalls etc.
Market Research is the way forward.
YAWN BSODs in XP are caused by clueless users/admins, barring some critical updates, i've never ever had to reboot my XP PC running on a Dell Dim 4550. BSODs are simply no longer an issue if XP is configured right.
There's a advanced setting in Windows 2000 workstation and server,XP and Windows 2003 server that you can configure so it only allows HTTP (port 80) and SSL (port 443) through the TCP/IP stack. This way you can download patches from the net and you won't get infected by SMB based viruses. Any Microsoft techs want to take this up?
I get really tired of reading this kind of thing. There is really no excuse for this anymore and if you are an IT professional then SHAME ON YOU if a PC you are loading gets infected. Here's why:
Windows XP 1) Use a Microsoft XP SP 2 CD
2) If you don't have one then copy the contents of a old XP CD, slipstream it with SP2 then make your own bootable XP SP2 CD.
3) If you cannot do either and you only have an older version of XP on CD then use another PC to download Zonealarm, burn it on a CD. Load XP with the internet connection disconnected. Load ZoneAlarm. Connect internet. Download Patches. Disconnect Internet, Remove Zoney, enable MS Firewall, reconnect Internet.
Windows 2000 See (3) under XP except use ZoneAlarm
Windows 98 See (3) under XP except use ZoneAlarm
Windows ME See (3) under XP except use ZoneAlarm
Windows 95 See (3) under XP except use ZoneAlarm
Windows NT See (3) under XP except use ZoneAlarm
Windows for Workgroups 3.11 1) Use an external firewall. Your company LAN should already have one OR you should use a ADSL modem/router with this facility. They are cheap enough.
Windows 3.1 See (1) Above
Windows Server 2003 Standard, Enterprise, Web edition. Same as (3) under XP. You can load the basic server standalone, firewall it, patch it, remove ZoneAlarm, connect to domain etc.
Windows Server 2000 et al Same as (3) under XP. You can load the basic server standalone, firewall it, patch it, remove 3rd party firewall, connect to domain etc.
Windows Server NT 4, 3.5 Same as (3) under XP. You can load the basic server standalone, firewall it, patch it, remove 3rd party firewall, connect to domain etc.
The other solution is to use Microsoft SUS and let your SUS server patch the box without it ever connecting to the net!
See! Answer for everything. If you plug an unpatched Windows box on the internet then, yes, it will get infected. Of course it will. - Solution - Dont do it!
Same goes for *nix boxes. If you put an ecommerce site on an old unpatched version of Apache then you may as well publish customer details on the front page.

Listening to all the *nix crowd sniggering everytime us Microsoft devotees get battered by YAVO (yet another virus outbreak) I thought *nix was impervient to such lowly things as 'viruses' and 'spyware' and 'self executing email programs'
Why then such dismay at King Bills decision to snip support for this product? Surely it is simply a good business decision to cut out some dead wood in an aquired product line?
I mean, surely the *nix AV products don't sell that well?
(No moderating as Troll - this is a serious question. Some of us really are Microsoft fans - I've even got a framed piccy of Bill in my front room (some part of that previous sentence may not be true))
heh heh good one.
I was thinking just the same thing.
In fact, let's go the whole 9 yards and have the ability to render a URL in text from the command line - oh hangon - Lynx!
yeah WMP is free and doesn't nag you to 'upgrade' to some paid-for version which has features i'll never use. WMP plays my pr0n collection - what else do I need? (and WMP Classic plays.mov and.rm files)

Yeah - who cares who-buys-who when we have fine females like this to gaze at?!
Is she on the Opera 2006 Hottie calendar?
those articles are so unreadable thanks to ramming adverts down your throat. 15 percent article, 85 percent garbage.
