    The people who go on and on about pointers are usually the same ones who don't understand the std, or any of the new standards. Or even basic OOP concepts. These are the guys I refer to as "resume-only" C++ programmers.

    I agree. And I have a VERY good understanding of templates. I think a lot of it is very powerful and neat, but at the end of the day - even I have a difficult time deciphering some of the usage. std::string and vector are widely used, but go beyond those, and everyone feels like they're off the reservation.

    The market is flooded. For the 2nd year in a row salaries in IT have DROPPED. But Microsoft still claims that we have a shortage of IT people. That's because their goal is to get congress to pass more H-1B increases and flood the market so that IT salaries keep dropping.
