Remember that GW or environment change is not limited to the region that causes pollution. Hence the ozone hole over Arctic.

Assuming that we can somehow manage to build flood walls in all continents,

What do you plan to do about shifting rain and temperature patterns? So, next are we going to be relocating millions of people to the new zones that have adequate rainfall and artificially flatten and fertilize vast landscapes to suit agriculture because nature takes its own sweet time?

An even better technique would be to use cloud seeding and other means to control the environment including temprature and humidity in areas already populated by humans.

Thats a kickass idea for a startup company! Get a few patents that makes it difficult for others to compete, use "under the belt" marketing to get government contracts to control the environment for the next 15 years, make money and by the end of 15 years make sure there is nobody else who can replace you even if the authorities want a change. Hmm, I see a MS like company with $100 billion market cap, want to join me?

Ooops, maybe it'll also give rise to a new kind of terrorism where crackpots will be trying to destroy these system just before they are needed! A few kgs of TNT to take out the flood walls a day before the storm hits, and whamm, New Orleans all over again.

Cool, so instead of finding alternatives for technologies that may have created this problem in the first place, we are going to get into a loop where we have to constantly maintain our environment in our surroundings for survival.

I dont think this is about who should have what responsibility, or morality.

But there are some questions that we have to ponder over

    # Does the pay allow them to educate their children to a resonable level such that their next generation is more knowledgable or has skillsets that opens up new oppurtunities and choices for their carreer. (Assuming these workers at the bottom of the pyramid)

    # Does the work schedule allow them to spend some time awake with their famalies, visit relatives and friends or take up hobbies of interest etc

    # Can a worker choose to stop working after one shift and opt to go home, at least for a temporary period, without risking her job?

    # Should a worker resign (do they get a appointment letter before they start?) from her present job before she finds time to look for better oppurtunities?

    # Do they need some sort of permit to migrate to cities from villages? If yes, are there any terms specified by the Government or the contractor who helps them get it?

    # How is China outside the swanky cities. Can a tourist in China freely tarvel to remote villages and spend sometime there without getting explicit permission for it from authorities?

    # Could contractors or companies run their factories as they are running them now, if China were to have Democracy, free speech, free press and labor laws that were open to public debates?

    # If the teeming masses that fuel Chinese factories are unhappy with the working conditions and pay, can they come together and protest about it without risking their lives? Can the press there publish articles that reflect their concerns, or can they freely use the internet to raise awareness about their plight?

[sarcasm] But do they have a alternative? I wonder what humans were doing for food, shelter and other things to keep their our body and soul together before these big corporations came along.... maybe companies existed ever since humans came into existence." [/sarcasm]

Communists and Big corporations seem to have found a cocktail that allows them use to masses of cheap labor to produce low cost products while the "People's" Government ensures they have no other choice but to serve these corporations in return for a Zombie like existence.

We underestimate how much freedom and democracy has contributed to the quality of life we enjoy now.

Capitalists pay lip service to "our way of life" and ditch it in a jiffy abroad, if doing so increases their profits. Google threw its corporate policy of "do no evil" into water and became a part of "the great china firewall". But they did put up a nice show by refusing to hand over user data to US gov. because the courts and laws here make sure the govt cannot screw them. The article just puts Apple into the same basket as Walmart and thousands of other companies. Pufff, only a small dent to the halo ring around Apple.

Lest we forget, the leader of the biggest communist country began his latest visit with a dinner hosted by one of the founders of Microsoft and the guest list included big winners of capitalism (read CEOs of Big companies). It is difficult to believe that Cold War was a just few decades ago, and many who lived through it are still alive. Wan'st it about Democracy vs Communism? How many American soldiers died fighting communism in Vietnam and Korea? Did Tiananmen square happen in the distant past?

Oops, wait, why is USA pissed of with Fidel Castro (Cuba), Kim Jung II(North Korea), Than Shwe (Myanmar), Saddam Hussien (before 2003), Ahmadinejad (Iran) and others? They too are more or less communists like China. Oh, but they do not allow our Capitalists to exploit the masses nor allow US to sell goods and services in their market. WTF, they dont want to be part of "the" global economy, down with these oppressors etc etc. Ahhh, but we do neeed something to keep our Military-Industry complex busy, yup, sounds great, and the morons deserve it anyway.....

furniture companies in Redmond today offered a special volume discount on "Entertain Chairs" to Software maker Microsoft. This is a upgrade from their earlier offerings and services such as pick up of broken chairs during delivery of new ones are bundled with this edition. However, these companies indicated that this is a midterm upgrade until the debut of their new furniture being designed from ground up.

The new furniture is already under active development and is expected to be released during end of 2006. A new design methodology in which modular development takes precedent over integrated innovation was recently introduced to speed up the process and meet the deadline. Modular approach allows for more independent development and testing by various groups. It also permitted automated testing that helps identify errors and incompatibilities early during the process. Some features in the new design are being back ported to allow customers to switch at a slower pace.

Integrated innovation approach used extensively in earlier products was abandoned after it failed to accommodate large fundamental changes as even small changes in some critical corner regularly broke stability of others and the complex interlinks forced designers to resort to manual testing which failed to catch errors before product introduction, creating a need for these companies to ship service kits shortly after products hit the shelf. This old approach required designers to spend more time integrating their innovation in meetings than spend it doing actual design. Few frustrated designers recently started blogs to air their unhappiness after thick layers of bureaucracy prevented their voices from being heard by management. Discovery of errors in furniture frequently by third parties despite non-availability of the design drawings, lead to weekly patch kits becoming regular.

A AMC program called "Assurance" introduced to fund such kits was badly received by customers and some of them have switched to smaller shops that offer more customizable and maintainable furniture solutions by shipping with their design drawings allowing third parties to fix, modify or upgrade the furniture if required.

A hyped feature of the new design is inclusion of metathreads with every fiber which allows easier and much faster finding of broken furniture using a new tool that eliminates the time consuming need for sweeping the entire floor. Though this feature was already available as add on, it is said that this new design binds it tightly. A common complaint with earlier product designs which made furnitures easy to hijack when exposed to public has been significantly addressed by creating more isolated modules that allow the furniture to be usable even if particular modules are hijacked. Other new features hyped or listed include glossy finish, a richer user experience and new grips that makes the user more productive, allowing him to focus on the throw by reducing the effort required to maintain furniture balance essential for effective throws.

Early prototypes of the new design are available for important customers and vendors with Monkey Spat design network accounts. Companies recently announced that the new design process will enable them to ship updated prototypes more frequently during the development cycle.

In a recent presentation, representatives of the companies were enthusiastic saying that the new design will provide growth opportunities for the entire market as it required customers to upgrade their cleaning equipments, maintenance employees to enroll in new certification programs and new expensive add ons to the furnitures to make it usable in the real world. They also revealed that the new design will be available in these editions

    1. Home edition
