    I genuinely don't believe you can effective competition in a free/regulated capitalist market unless there are a large number of players. Large to me means 5-10. My belief is that economic policy and regulation should be geared around maximising the number of competitors in a give market.

    This is an issue entirely separate from monopolies abusing their supremacy in one market to gain undeserved share in another market, however the latter could not occur if the markets were regulated as described in the previous paragraph.

    My guess is that any of Microsoft's patents could be coded-around trivially - therefore their patents, once revealed, have no value. Their only value is as a bargaining tool (cudgel).

    Over here in the UK, the main Aussie telly we're blessed with are neighbours and home & away - I would swap war on everything for neighbours any day!!

    I believe it is true in both the US and the UK (where I reside and thus possess at least a passing familiarity) that you would still be able to detain someone until police arrived if you were confident that they had stolen something.

    I heard good things about Alien Doom so when I finally downloaded it I turned off the lights to get the most from the experience.

    For the first 20 minutes or so you are creeping through corridors, always wondering what might appear around the next corner. Nothing much actually happens except that the corridors gradually become more and more covered in alien slime. You go through several levels without actually seeing any enemies, even though you know you must be getting closer to their lair.

    All of a sudden an alien jumps at you out of nowhere.

    I have never before and never since been more scared by a computer game.
