> People moved in hordes to RDP as a protocol because X sucks so bad on a LAN
That doesn't add up - VNC has been around since forever so people would have moved to that for the same reasons that they might move to RDP. (RDP is a bit better than VNC but that's not really relevant).
My experience of X on a lan is quite good - I use remote gvim all the time. X over the internet isn't so good. I have occasionally ran remote gvim sessions over the internet in the past but forgoing a GUI and running vim over SSH is preferable in that case.
The elephant in the room is the saturation of guns. Far more people in the USA die or are injured due to guns than roads. Should probably focus on the more serious issues first...
Isn't it the case that any application you install on your computer can secretly open a upnp connection through your firewall to your computer without you being aware of this?
Some guy has decompiled (what he claims to be) a VAC (Valve Anti Cheat) module that seems to be downloaded and executed when you connect to a game server. He has found code that scans the dns cache, hashes the domain name and adds it to an array.
Its not clear what is done with the data - whether it is compared against a blacklist sent by the server, whether it is used as an anti-proxy measure to verify that the VAC module was downloaded from the correct server, or whether this data is indeed sent to Valve. Tellingly, the guy who found the code where Valve scans the dns cache, has not found any code where this data gets sent to Valve.
So until someone actually finds code that sends this data off to Valve, I'm leaving the pitchfork party early.
Mozilla has to make money somehow and be independent from google. But I don't want to see amazon or whatever when I first load firefox. If mozilla gets strapped for cash its very likely that they will move to a model where some of these tabs are always reserved for sponsorship. Slippery slope.
I don't understand the business model of renting hashing out to people. Either its profitable so you effectively lose money by renting it out, or its not profitable so noone in their right minds would rent it off you!
As a manufacturer, the prices for certain items used in or by capital ships have increased significantly since the fight so its time to build a lot of those!
They do have real world value. Just the same as an e-book or an mp3 has a value. At the end of the day e-books, mp3s and items in eve are all virtual things that don't really exist, but they all have value.
TBH I hate that WoW and Eve force you to have an autopay. I would rather make the decision each period whether to continue to subscribe, so I always immediately cancel the autopay and wait until the subscription expires.
"This allows a direct conversion from in-game currency to real money"
There is only a direct conversion from real money to in-game currency. If the link operated in both directions then the prices would be very different.
The more vertical resolution the better, when it comes to writing code. I stayed with a pair of 1600x1200 CRTs until earlier this year, because HD resolutions caused vertical resolution to stagnate. I was finally able to upgrade (for a decent price) my CRT to a 2560x1440 panel which is nice, but roll on higher resolutions!
I get 16 Mbit upload from my BT Infinity. On the one hand its less than 1/4 of my download speed...on the other hand, I used to have download speeds that were worse than that!
My TP-LINK router worked immediately with OpenWRT. Going for bleeding edge daily builds is pretty risky TBH; I am not sure I would have done that myself.

Network transparency was conspicuous by its absence for a long time.

DD WRT has a history of GPL violations, so anyone who's cool doesn't use it!

“I wouldn’t want to be subjected to any overly loud music for six to 12 hours at a time without a break”
I hope noone plays his music at any raves
If I want to pay by card for either game it forces you into an autopay.

There is some useful info for new players over in the eve subreddit

That's exactly correct.

Not all/many displays allow this.

If you buy blu ray you're fucked as they can retroactively cancel any blue ray player hardware.
Thank you kindly.
Is there an rss link for that blog? I can't find it.
That is pretty shady that they seize his materials, use it to their advantage, but then don't charge him with any crime. That's basically tyranny.

Still, there's the historic GPL violations in that project...
