  1. So unconventional..... on Black Holes 'Do Not Exist,' Contends Physicist · · Score: 2, Insightful

Well when I first saw this I was sceptical, but on further reflection I wondered - perhaps he isn't wrong. The world reacted with shock when Hubble provided evidence that the galaxies were moving away from each other, meaning the universe was expanding, and similarly the world was shocked when Hawking showed that matter "must" be leaving the other side of a black hole. Perhaps we will soon find that this scientist is correct in saying that black "holes" do not really exist.

I don't know how many here are familiar with Valve's Steam system. In this, you have to register all your valve produced games (HL, HL2, CS etc) to an account, and so everyone trying to play online must have their own registered copy of the game. Why don't music companies adopt this system? That way, we can buy and copy our music to a pc, but anywhere in the world, we can log into our account and listen to our music. It works with computer games, so why not apply it to music and dvds?

  3. Re:Better yet on A Voice-Controlled TV Remote · · Score: 1

Yeah that's a good idea. What is the point of a voice activated remote control when the whole point of the remote is ease of access to the tv channel system. If they just make the TV voice activated, there won't be a need for remotes at all. Of course, with moving their fingers to change channels being the only source of exercise for many in the world, will the development of this type of electronics control lead to even higher rates of obesity?

  4. Re:Suicide Booth on Games That Shoot Back · · Score: 1

Hehe this would be an interesting development. Ever had the experience where your PC crashes in the middle of a game and the sounds that were just playing keep repeating over and over again in an endless loop until you reboot? Well imagine if that were to happen here! Please ban this "game" for civilian use!

  5. Re:Loyalty Fee? on San Francisco Attempts to Regulate Blogging · · Score: 1

This actually is a complete load of rubbish. Whatever happened to free speech? This isn't like radio stations because we aren't distributing materials for enjoyment. What we do in blogging is comment on events, comment on our lives, and if we feel that we should copy and paste a section of a speech made by Bush or Kerry or whoever, then we should be able to! I want to know that if I ever feel so inclined, I can freely and without loss (of anything, money etc) post about whatever and whomever I want. At least I don't live in San Fransisco. But how long before other states follow? And other countries - I won't be suprised if England follows suit soon. If this passes China and Iran and North Korea can do anything they want with Bloggers because they can simply say "well look what (parts of) the US are doing, why can't we do the same?"

  7. Re:Wrong priorities on Indian Moon Mission to Have Landing Component · · Score: 1

NONE of the work going to be done by indias satellites is going to help anyone in the world. I hope you realise that the west is far ahead of india in science and medicine. Therefore anything they "discover" will be old and nothing of significance. And the reason why the US sent men to the moon in the middle of the Cold War was because of the competition from the USSR. That was to do with national pride and prestige. However I will say again, both USSR and US were extremely developed industrially, technologically, scientifically, and economically. India is none of these things and should focus on them before trying to compete with CHINA and the US, EU, and former USSR nations.

  10. Re:Governments are not concerned... on China Bans 50 Games · · Score: 1

Get your facts right please. They have the rule that it is one child per couple. They DO NOT set the ratio of boys to girls and then kill girls who are in "excess" as you so imaginatively say. Parents who believe a boy is more "useful" than a girl do however do this. They are in no way forced to do it. And about the policy itself, although it is another limitation on life, without the policy the country would be completely overpopulated, famine would have prevailed for years, and the economy would have been in tatters. Currently, the economy is extremely strong, and growing at 7% and higher. This system may not work for the US or Germany, but it is what suits China. Do not assume that because one form of government works in one country, it will work universally. With regards to protests etc, every government system has people who oppose it. There are pro-democracy people in China as there are Communists, Klu Klux Klan, and (neo)Nazi people etc in America. Sheer misery? You yourself say you have not been to China. Have you lived in a village or town in China? How do you know if it "sheer misery" to live there? The communists are in power for a reason - they were popular when the revolution occured, as high society exploited the poor. They are still popular now. When the Chinese people decide that communism is not good for them, when they rise up and protest, then you can sit there and say "its sheer misery, communism sux, democracy is the best!!!oneone" If everyone has had enough of communism, then not all of them can be imprisoned or executed, so revolution is always possible - French, American and Russian revolutions (twice) springs to mind.
