  1. Would be nice if they get it working on Futuristic Biplane Design Eliminates Sonic Boom · · Score: 1

The major thing holding back the Concord from operating domestically was the noise factor. If they could eliminate or reduce that noise level, then we could see super sonic flight from coast to coast... Probably won't happen, but one could dream....

While I despise Flash, I realize that a lot of companies have a ton of money invested in Flash. Replacing it is not going to be free. Flash will eventually be replaced without the help of protesters if the benefits of HTML5 out weigh those of Flash and the cost of HTML5 is similar to Flash. I have C64 Floppies that are 30+ years old that are still good. Modern floppies suck. I remember copying files onto a 3.5" disk, turning to another computer and the disk was bad. The old 5.25" disks seem to last forever.

I know the OP is talking PC, but I know many /. users grew up on the C64, so on a similar note, I converted all mine with a product called ZoomFloppy.

    Works great!

  10. Re:Too much layers on Book Review: CoffeeScript: Accelerated JavaScript Development · · Score: 1

    2. Super-easy, but hard to understand, and errors are not picked up at compile time (C, Perl, PHP, Javascript)

C does not belong in that list....

What needs to happen is that these upper-most languages need to "flatten the layers" to use a photoshop analogy, down to just a CPU/GPU-neutral LLVM JIT compiler. This isn't what happens now.

Except in .NET... All .NET languages compile down to an IL, which is then compiled by a JIT on the platform it is run on....

    2. Some stupid idea counts as news now?

Lots of stupid ideas count as news. If /. only posted good ideas, we wouldn't have much to read....

Maybe the idea is that we can discuss stupid ideas to see how stupid they really are, or whether they might just have some merit? A lot of good ideas come from a lot more stupid ideas. If you're lucky, you'll have 1 good idea out of every 100 stupid ideas.

In this case, I agree with #1 and #3 of your post :)
