Not necessarily. It could be linked to an EXE or PIF, which a naïve user would open. If the target ignores all browsers' warnings about harmful EXEs, in combination with Windows's hiding of file extensions... (somefile).jpg .exe is something I've seen many times. By the way: Does IE prompt that PIF/BAT files are potentially dangerous when downloading? How about VB scripts?

Why not outlaw camcorders as well? Although there's a negligible loss of quality, they can effectively convert analogue signals eminating from my monitor into a slightly imperfect digital replica... For that matter, why not outlaw the human eye and its corresponding visual cortex? How about the limbic system of the brain, so that we can't store memorable images from movies? Seriously though, I think a far more effective way to restrict the capture of analogue signals is to implement a protection scheme WITHIN the capturing device's circuitry. If a certain waveform (yes, a fuzzy match would be allowed) is present in the signal, the capture device refuses to run. All capture card makers would have to abide to this rule or face sanctions.

  16. Well... on Graphics Coming to Google Ads · · Score: 1

Ad-blocking components of browsers should be able to easily filter these out, as the ads will definitely reside on a separate server. This is not the case with embedded textual advertising, which are actually embedded within the HTML document. I know I won't be seeing these. In fact, I haven't seen a single graphical Internet ad for months.

  17. Re:vegan.com podcast? on The Podjacker Threat · · Score: 1

This issue is akin to the stealing of Flash animations, or for that matter, any media. Whenever I create an animation, for example, I include an FBI-style warning preceeding the clip stating where it came from, and that its appearance on another site indicates it is stolen. It should be relatively easy for a podcaster to announce at regular intervals the origin of the podcast, and perhaps a short disclaimer about modifying the podcast.
