"If you want to know what ordinary people will be doing with computers in ten years, just walk around the CS department at a good university. Whatever they're doing, you'll be doing."
Its annoying in Word 2004 for Mac.. always there in the toolbar. Also, its shit becuase if you've got Acrobat 7 installed, any pdf's you view in Safari have to open Acrobat first, no matter how many times you tell it to 'always open with preview'. Bugger.
Wait a couple years on the MBA if you are fresh outa college.
Indeed. MBA's are generally considered most useful if you have had some real world experience. Lots of UK Uni's wont even let you enroll for an MBA unless you've worked full time for up to 4 years.
I'm sort of trapped too, so make sure its something that will benefit your future. I have a BA in GIS and an M.Sc in I.T Management and currently work selling chickens. True story.
...you don't end up with dozens of files everywhere for a single program (makes uninstalling clean too!)...
Not as a rule. Simply trashing the XXX.app can leave various things in your libraries and system folder. Its best to use an uninstaller (if provided: usually run the installer again and select 'uninstall'). Failing that, Command-F and search for corresponding preferences, et al, and trash 'em.
One possible reason is that the micro drives in iPods are not designed for use as a desktop hard disk. Some poeple have learned this the hard way: installing an alternate OS on the iPod, booting into target/firewire mode, etc. In some cases, the constant use actually generated enough heat to fuse the small platters together. Oops.
This is excellent news. In contrast to the current news posted on the SideTrack website, it is indeed possible to retrofit this technology to older trackpads. I still admire SideTrack's use of hot corners though.
I wonder, has anyone used this function in conjunction with the new drivers?
In an update to my earlier question, this snippit may be of interest if anyone is still following the thread:
"MacObserver hilights the key points from the article which will also appear in print in the Feb 21, 2005 issue of Fortune. It provides some interesting insights into the recent history of Apple from Steve Jobs' perspective.
Of interest, according to the article, Apple approached Adobe in 1998 to develop consumer targeted Video/Photo software, but Adobe said "no"... which triggered Apple's decision to develop its own software (FCP, iPhoto, iMovie)."
I remember an article from several years ago that ran in the printed version of The Jakarta Post (link to paper, not article) stating that the Indonesian government ran something like 97% of its computers on pirated versions of Windows and Office. Corruption asside, this and similar cheap alternatives could help stamp out pirating at the government level, perhaps inducing a positive trickle down effect.
The reason valves sound 'better' to a guitarist's ear, is that they introduce various impurities into the signal chain which the ear percieves as an 'enhancement'. As the power is upped, the tubes begin to overdrive. Favored tubes are those with smooth clean->overdrive transition
properties, a quality that Mesa/Boogie is known for. Thus, TV tubes may not function as expected if they have been optimised for an 'i/o' state. Further, I have no idea whether tubes from vintage TV sets will fit into powervalve apetures. Some vintage radio tubes do, though.
It could be a fun project for someone, but if you factor in the kind of overhaul costs required for reliable gigging from an amp driven by 50 year old tubes, it wont be a good idea to charge too much

Is this something that can be implemented in software alone? ie: whacking the new trackpad drivers into the old albooks? Or is the underlying structure of the trackpad different? Anybody?
They keyboards on the 12 thru 17 models are all the same size, purely for cost efficiency. They are, in fact, 'full size' keyboards, although the minor keys (arrows, directions, some modifiers) are smaller. What is interesting is the area of the trackpads... Apple seems to maintain proportions between screen size and trackpad surface area.
To what extent do you think Apple kept Pages feature stripped on purpose? The rumor mills were rife with the 'Word killer' threads, and this proved fruitless. Is this because of the relationship Apple continues to keep with Microsoft following the 1997 (I think) deal? Lets not forget, Microsoft is one of Apple's largest shareholders.
Similarly, did Apple choose not to step on Adobe's feet any further, since Adobe have already abandoned OS X versions of Premier?
I bet it was beans on toast for the Gates' following that spending ludicrousy...
LaTeX will rule again!!
Google or a manual. Just like I did...
Not if you're Sidney round the corner who's internet's frigged.

Good luck, chief.

But a boost from 3 to 5% of the market share should encourage developers to port more games to OS X. It will be an intersting 12 months on that front.
WUT R U TOKNG ABOUT?????!!! OMG WTF IV3 BEN USNG COMPUT3RS AL MAH LIEF AND MAH GRMM3R IS JUST FIEN!!!11! OMG WTF LOL
Funny how they push ahead with this after Raskin's death. I wonder what he'd think.

It is a bit odd, especially considering George Harrison's death made Apple's front page in November 2001 despite no obvious link to the company.
Usually referred to as 'dual USB'. For a complete reference on Apple's crazy naming conventions, you can't go wrong with Apple History
