In loco parentis referred to the rights of Colleges. It had nothing to do with K-12. By definition K-12 children are living with their parents. Bording schools are an unrelated issue.
Wast majority of people doing any sort of programming in the world are quite frankly not that good.
What about the nuclear wessels?
Sorry couldn't resist...
Doesn't seem to effective. I have a rather unusual name and they don't have any info on me or my father, or brother with the same name. Looks more like hype.
That's like saying the horse a gambler picks is more likely to win cause the gambler has a monetary incentive for it to win.
In reality of course that horse would win regardless of the ticket. So claiming psychics get debunked cause Randi has a reason to do so is equally absurd.
In addition to the 1983 date, Stallman was just codifying the ethics of the previous hacker culture of the 60's-70's. So Free Software (don't say open source when talking 'bout Stalman unless you want an email about it) is far older than these self righteous psuedo intellectual exhibitionists.
I distantly remember the days when slashdot wasn't overloaded with dupes and trash
Wow, I didn't know they let you folks have the internet in nursing homes...
.4 percent gain is still a gain, just not a dramatic one... I mean come on it's gone from Linus and the Minix hackers to 3-4% of the total market. That's a big jump, but there are a lot of Windows computers out there.
I think this article really targets those with a great work ethic more than those natural wonders. Over-achiever types are always stressed and are always afraid of failure. On the other hand there are those that are talented enough to the point of arrogance that don't feel pressure on standardized tests at all. They may not score as high as the over-achiever smart-types in a holistic manner because they tend to slack in work output, but they do brilliantly in the tests because of their raw abilities. So basically don't correlate grades with raw intellect because there are two components to grades.
You can get a brand new dell sans monitor for $350. Not that I think thin clients and terminals ar bad, They're just not worth buying new hardware for.
Insightful, bah. You can write innapropriate checks or have if statements with bad logic that create security holes whether it's typesafe or not. Shifting the hole to another spot in the hull doesn't make the boat stop taking on water.
The pain of Windows' troubles so far doesn't outweigh the cost/pain of having to relearn how to use the computer. It just hasn't gotten bad enough for people to justify the switch to themselves. And alot of viruses don't do things normal users can see exempt make the computer slow down. In a virus free environment windows still makes computing easy enough for your casual user. If that balance changes then we'll see some migration.
It was accessible because he used a hardware keylogger when the teacher was typing the test. This would have worked on any standalone machine that used a ps/2 port since it didn't use any sort of network technology.

Tradition! Seriously though, BIOS code is very old and designed to provide for the least common denominator.
