It might be possible to define a set of rules for conversation between humans in restricted circumstances - I wonder if anyone has actually tried doing this.
That's not a good analogy, nature is both beautiful and ugly. Natural trends are not always the best, for instance, what if I said that "the network tends towards liberal values just as a bull tends to rape any female cow next to him." Doesn't sound so enticing, does it? If you're going to use an analogy, please use one that sheds light or meaning on the situation. Your quote underneath your picture just sounds like you smoked enough dope to spew hippie peace love crap.
That's not a good analogy. Hippie trends are not always the love, for instance, what if you'd said "sounds like you smoked enough dope to take part in the 1967 Summer of Riots." Doesn't sound so passive-aggressive, does it? If you're going to use an analogy, please use one that sheds light or meaning on the situation. Your post undernearth your user info just sounds like you only open your mouth enough to spew judgement on others without holding yourself to the same standards.

Btw, is alpha the new beta?
No, this is a true alpha - see, you can tell because the logo already has a gradient, but it lacks the difinitive shiny table reflection that today's modern beta sofwate requires.
How much could they possibly fix this quick in an OS as monolithic as Vista?
Vista went in to RTM in November, so releasing SP1 mid 2007 will leave at 6 to 8 months for bug fixes. Considering how long Vista was in development, and (more importantly) knowing Microsoft, you can assume that there was a lot of polishing that got pushed aside in a rush to just finally get the damn thing out and over with.
Additionally, since Longhorn Server is still under development - and releasing Beta 3 next month or so - there's probably still lots of work being done on the client/server relationship. Changes and bug fixes could be made to the server edition that will require slight changes to clients.
So really it's fairly reasonable to think that there would be at least some changes worth making.
could the real plan be to nudge developers into more Xbox 360 development and off of the PC?
Actually, Microsoft seems to be working very hard to eliminate the difference between developing for the Xbox and developing for the PC. Evidence of this can be seen in their XNA Game Studio which allows homebrew developers to write games that will cross compile for both Windows and the Xbox 360. Ironically, however, I can't get the damn thing to even install on Vista.
I should have been more clear. I think that my use of the present tense was my downfall. By "most of the time these things are living things" I meant that most of the things for which guns were orginally purposed and created by man to shoot are/were living. That is, guns were originally created for utilitarian purposes such as hunting and warfare. I was suggesting (and assuming) that the initial need for the push in this technology did not come from hobbiests who use their guns for thrill and sport like Hunter S. Thompson or Zhang Shan.
The same can be said for most weapons that are now primarily used for sport: archery, javelin, numchucks...bo-staff skills.... (sorry, I just rewatched Napoleon Dynamite.)
You nitpicked his twisting of your point, but you twisted his just as much.
He said:
"[children] are obviously too young to have the intent to kill... any fool can see that a gun is a device whose purpose is to kill"
and you responded with:
"...you're saying objects....physical objects have INTENT."
Despite whatever you may think he may have implied, what he said was that a child does not have intent to kill, but that objects have purposes - which they do. Everything made by man has a purpose for which it was made.
The purpose of making guns and ammunition is to be able to shoot things. I will venture to say (my assumption) that most of the time these things are living things.
My only complaint is that it automatically comes on whenever the car is turned on (IMO it should remember the setting). But given that it's so much better than the toggle switch, I just leave it on now anyway
Alan Cooper calls that a dancing bear in his book, and says it's a ridiculous waste of time because it doesn't really do what you want, and I would agree.
What he means is that a dancing bear dances poorly, just stomping and flailing out of rythm, but we put up with it and try to enjoy it because it's amazing to see a bear dance at all. "I've never seen a bear dance before!" we tell ourselves. He also points out that once you've seen a dancing bear it's hard to go back to normal non-dancing bears, but you could always just go with a different animal that can dance if dancing is what you want.
Personally I'll take a boring old human than can dance well (read: rear view mirror that is manual but does what i want) over a bear that dances poorly (read: automagic mirror that doesn't always do what I want).
i agree that is is a nice form-factor device with many features. i guess i was joking/refering more to its lack of remarkable or compelling games (a point which is arguable, but upheld by many).
And now all of these games which look like budget titles (Wii sports, Excite Truck) are $60 just like all the other new consoles.
Wii Sports is included with the console (for now), and games in general seem to peak out at around $50, with some going as low as $30.
yup.
Satoru Iwata, president of Nintendo of Japan, told me last week that while the company has no control over what its partners ask for their games, "I cannot imagine any first party title could be priced for more than $50."
Being that Excite Truck is first-party and Wii Sports is currently only available bundled with the system, WTF was the grandparent talking about?! Is he trying to buy them on Ebay?
Hark! I hear the high pitched whine of angry, yet uninformed fan boys...
Also, with PS/3 being a fully functional computer with a keyboard/mouse/blueray, its more than just a console. And Xbox live with internet access to media is more than a console. The Wii is a console and priced like it.
Do your homework.
The Wii has 2 USB ports that will allow you to use keyboards and such with software like the Opera web browser, which should be released on Wii around the new year. It has photo/video viewing software already built in that read from the SD slot, and an upcoming Google Earth-like 3d globe for displaying visualized weather data. Plus, all those services are free; no monthly fee - the only online use you pay for is Virtual Console games you can buy, or other software yet to be released through the Wii Shopping Channel in the OS.
Not saying you shouldn't be upset or that it's your fault somehow, but "Reason: Inaccurate or incomplete billing information" happened to me when my credit card expired. That's the same reason they game me, but I knew it was just my card. I used the canceled time to finish my last term in school and actually study like I should, then after I graduated I went on the website and updated my information, which reactivated my account and my characters were all still there.
I'm sorry it hasn't worked this smoothly for you, but I just wanted to point out that they don't always treat customers poorly (even though it seems like many have been).

So far it is just one state in India, but it is great news none the less.
Someone did. Ta-da: PronoTube (in case it's not obvious, this link is SUPER NSFW)
Really? Does this only apply to Europe? Because Japan banned the import of American beef for two years because we didn't test to their standards.
Well, this same law firm, Green Welling LLC, was involved in suing Sony BMG over DRM issues.

As any Homeland Security drone could tell you: the obvious answer to all of those is 'a'.

So buy it, make it a success, and hopefully the rules will change.
Oh, and don't buy the ones that "nickle and dime us with these episodes and ultimately charge us more for less".
