Yes censorship is bad, however like it or not its legel in China. What if these Canadians were to write I program that what able to tell people in the U.S. when the NSA or FBI was monitoring your phone or internet connection. You know as well as I do that in less then a week they would be in Jail here in the U.S. awaiting a trail for being Terrorists.
People will say well its ok form them to do this because the Chinese goverment is evil... So they are so evil that we have favorite national trading status with them and we do billons of dollars in trade with them every year???
CNN is carrying this article and so is msnbc, however no one mentioned the viruses name. I swear this is old, it sounds like the OSX/Leap-A incident that occurred back in early February. It wasn't even a virus is was a trojan horse. Apple will patch for this like they did the others and life will go one. At least Apple patchs for these unlike Microsoft that just recommends installing its "beta" program to "fix" the problem or some other 3rd-party software that may or may not cost even more money.
I'm sure someone will have a kernel patch to prevent this from happening in linux in very short order.
The big question is will someone write malware/virus to somehow take advantage of this flaw?
Some system level protection is always important(like starting off with a secure OS!) however I can tell you from my experiences remotely managing XP systems that the local firewall can be a major headache. In our office we have hardware based firewalls or firewall feature set routers at/on every subnet router. Its much easier managing a handful of hardware devices versus hundreds of individual software based firewalls that don't work half the time anyway.
You might want to tell this to the people that are working on ipod linux. Seeing that they have already gotten video playback working on the Nano you might be a little late in telling them it won't work.
