    Unfortunately, too late...
    That is correct, at least from Microsofts point of view, but Win XP is still the most used OS in the world.
    It wouldn't have mattered earlier either, MS wouldn't have kept XP alive.

    ...probably the worlds best filesystems (Digitals AdvFS) has been released to OS and it seems that nobody cares...
    I've used it a lot on Tru64 and I am quite sure that it would be a real hit for Linux.
    We are trying to reinvent something we just can take for free...

    ...about the impossibility of running DirectX 10 on Windows XP.
    If you can run it on software you'll be able to run it on any OS version. Gee... that was another lie from Redmond, why am I not surprised... maybe 'cause I do run he DirectX 10 hack on my XP and no it didn't raise the CPU usage (as claimed be the union of MS Windoze Vista Fanboyz)... it lowered it.

    Yas, you missed the fact that they are apparently abandoning their own, now ISO certified, format in favour of ODF,
    which makes the whole document war a big circus... and the clown in that circus is Microsoft.

    They haven't told us anything about when they will support ISO-OOXML but they did tell us when they will support ODF.

    That doesn't make anything any better (except the security of the system).
    If the users do not know that the machine is ghosted every night they will fuck up every Windows PC they touch.
    Even if the machine is ghosted every night it still may cause considerable damage if it is infected with some malware.
    Finally, if they know and understand the ghosting idea, they probably never wouldn't get those pop ups...

    It's true you know... We have just switched our laptops to MacBook Pro and our desktops to Linux based thin clients.
    The biggest hardware store in this country has just taken Apple in, they were almost PC-only until this year.
    ...and this country is known as the bastion of Microsoft.

    You will however pay some serious money for it... I've paid over USD 1000 for mine (no that is no error, that is one thousand US dollars).

    My son's brand new HP desktop needs about 2 minutes to boot Vista Ultimate. His Vista experience has effectively scared everyone of his friends away from Vista when they saw it. That is btw. on a QuadCore Core2 @ 2 GHz and 2 GB RAM.
    ...and if you haven't discovered it yet: Microsofts login box appears allready halfway in the boot process, I've got users who are able to login and then get a "Windows is not ready booting" error when they try to launch Word or Excel.

    No, it will not. There is another ruling that says something like: "a PC without OS can not be considered a functional PC, it is either defective (since it can't boot) or spare parts".
    They have to provide something.

    The Terminal IS required in OS X... you just don't need to use it. That is the exact same situation as in most Linux distros.

    For all of you who have "set up a machine" for their parents and it "works just fine" our parents wouldn't be able to install Windows so your statement is pure bullshit.
    Many people can't even restore their system from a system restore CD. Windows is only "Ready for the Desktop" because it is preinstalled, installation of a real (retail) Windows is a real pain in the ass (this is true for every version from 3.x to XP both incl., I don't do Windows any more so I don't know if it is true for Vista too). The only system that is Desktop Ready by your definition is OS X... but it is only so 'cause it is like an OEM Windows: all necessary drivers are included.

    Linux is desktop ready. Whether you are ready for Linux or not, depends on your dependency on software based on Microsofts products.

    It is... if it can crack Vistas BitLocker protected drives...
    ...and if it can then MS will lose the rest of their credibility.
    Just consider following: "With this borrowed police USB gadget I can read CIA/NSA/Pentagon secret files on this laptop I found in the subway."
    ...and I can't image why MS should release a tool like that if it couldn't crack BitLocker.

    I think shared email (or single instance store) is a nifty feature: when someone sends a 5 meg video clip to 100 people in the office, the server only stores one copy, not 100. When someone does that they are banned from the system for stupidity... and that's a management decision.
