You're making a fundamental mistake, that being that you are trusting scientists. Not just any scientists, mind you, but scientists whose CAREERS are advanced based on the data they PRODUCE. Scientists are not all-altruistic entities that act for the goodness of all mankind. Scientists ARE PEOPLE whose jobs depend on funding from universities which receive funding from governments and corporations. These governments and corporations are PAYING to get results, namely the results they want. Anyone who knows anything about Al Gore knows that he is a hack. He owns SEVERAL mansions and uses 21x the amount of the average home owner in just ONE of his mansions. He offsets this by buying carbon credits (which do god knows what). The hilarity ensues because he owns the company that issues the carbon credits. Yes 2000 (sorry, less than that. Several scientists sued to get their names taken off of the list) have signed a petition saying that man is evil and is causing all the global warming (which actually peaked around 2005). This was greatly hyped and continues to be hyped by Mr. Gore who is doing his best to help get legislation passed to mandate a carbon cap and trade system (which his company would be in charge of administrating, collecting on, etc). Mr. Gore also owns controlling stock on a major oil company, I almost forgot that. Anyways, Mr. Gore contends that the debate is over and it's his way or the highway, and every chance he gets, he refuses to debate the 31,000 and counting scientists who are trying to give evidence that refutes Mr. Gore's claims. So, in conclusion I would say that there is a huge scam going on, humans are NOT bad for breathing (I prefer not to have to pay for simply existing), Mr. Gore is propagating this scam for monetary gain, yes there is damage done by humans (chemical/oil spills, GMO, destroying animals natural habitats), but we do not have the ability to do the damage that is being attributed to us by Mr. Gore.
Not a joke, but I'm currently working on a reality pilot about the legal medical marijuana dispenseries here in la. One of the guys there makes edible forms of marijuana, specifically, he uses "Cannibutter" (butter made out of THC) to make rice crispie treats. They also have chocolates, brownies and sodas. I haven't tried anything but I'm damn sure tempted, lol.
I have a compaq laptop with a turion amd 64 bit chip with 512 mb ram (shared with ati vid card). Today, just for the hell of it, I installed Windows Vista to see how it ran. It can be described in 1 word, "Awful". It took over 2 hours to install (mostly because I went away for 2 hours, came back and found out the computer had frozen during install so I had to power down and start the process again). Once Vista was FINALLY installed I tried executing the most MUNDANE tasks and it was like I was working on a computer that was 20 years out of date. It was maddenly slow and flat out froze constantly. Then I downloaded and installed Suse 10.2 (the downloading AND installation together took 2 hours). After the installation it was like I was driving a Ferrari. The computer FLEW no matter what I did. I installed World Community Grid (processor intensive distributed computing program) and ran gimp, open office and was surfing on the web with no lag. This begs the question. What the HELL is Microsoft DOING? I mean how HARD is it to create software that runs quickly and reliably? ESPECIALLY when you have TONS of money to throw at the problem! I mean linux is FREE for gods sake and it runs faster than ANY installation of windows EVER have! UGH!! I'm praying to god that game makers like Blizzard (WoW), CCP (Eve Online) and Cornered Rat Software (World War II Online) will start coming out with linux installations because that's the ONLY reason I have 1 computer on windows.
Haven't ALL the scientists for the last 10 years since the first asteroid destruction movie that came out been screaming and yelling that nukes will never work? What the hell changed between now and then?
Ok, here is what you get with both on the PS3 (I've installed both on separate occaisions). YDL installs EXTREMELY fast (in relation to other operating systems). I can't remember what the screen resolution is but it's decent and looks very good on an HDTV. As far as their new gui....I give it a big MEH. It looks pretty and it sparkles when you click on a window but I prefer gnome over it any day. Internet browsing, office apps, and other basic stuff you expect to see on linux are there. The thing that interested me is that, yup, you can get the PS3 to lag a bit when using YDL. I imagine this is due in part to the system only having 512mb ram and the graphics restricted to framebuffer (or whatever). I got a bootlegged copy and so I was unable to update my software via the YDL account system (way to go sony, you made it so people have to BUY linux to use it to it's full potential), but for the most part I'd say YDL looks good, operates ok, but I didn't see a WHOLE lot of the usual linux extras you'll usually find on Ubuntu, Suse or Fedora. Now Fedora Core 5 is a bit of a different story. First of all, the max install takes about 4 hours to complete from start to finish, it's pretty grueling. The biggest dissappointment I had was the MINISCULE screen resolution. 534x300 or something god awful like that. The good news is all the little linux extras are there, internet works fine, office stuff is good, video players will work (but who wants to watch video at 534x300). Fedora Core 5 has the same problem as YDL tho as I can't get the friggin software updater to work. So far I'd say that I'm going to have to break down and actually buy YDL because I really want to see how well they can work with the PS3 unless other distros of linux start bringing up the slack. Damn you Sony, you are a harsh mistress.

Yeah, I have a few questions about the statements you make here. $3k for a DV camera? I don't think so, and I also don't think the daily show is using DV cameras either. You can pick up a great Canon GL1 for $1.5 and I'm pretty sure the daily show is using betacam or an equivalent which is probably pushing the $20k range. I also think they're using 4 if not 5 of them including one on a crane. The daily show has no need for boom operators (maybe 1 max for backup), I know for a fact they use wireless mics. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure standard Def maxes out at 640x480 and betacam and DV will cover that very well. The editing equipment would probably be minimal for a show like this, maybe 4-5 avids max and I would *HOPE* they had at least 1 trained editor, lord knows I've seen what happens when you have *untrained* editors, it's not a pretty sight. I really don't see how The Daily Show and Colbert Report's graphics are THAT bad, I'd say they have MARGINALLY less quality than network news braodcast and their graphics(for story bits) are often well done and if not, it's on purpose. The fact that it's taken you 2 years to make a 1 hour film is a little dicey. Is that shooting time or complete pre-production, production, post-production? That either covers alot of travel or is just one of those "labor of love" productions that you have to space out because of money and time constraints. Otherwise, I don't know, I've shot 1 hour shorts in 2 weekends and 2 of them are going to be hitting the film festivals pretty soon. I guess it depends exactly what the situation is. All in all though, I'd say your analysis of the Daily/Colbert report is a tad off, but hey, I could be wrong.
I'm not going to argue at all with your comments about the article writer, he's kind of clueless. I DO however have some arguments with your xbox vs ps3 statements. 1. The 360 starts out at $400 (with a 20 gb HDD)+ $200 for the HD-DVD player, and max resolution is 720p so far (correct me if I'm wrong), so we're at about $600 total for xbox with all the frills and it's not able to run any software microsoft doesn't want it running (i.e. Linux based stuff). Playstation 3 comes with a 60gb HDD (which can be replaced with any size laptop HDD), has a blue ray DVD drive included and can run linux by following basically a 4 step install process. All of that for $600. Now take into account the run of the mill blue ray dvd player out there is around $1000 and hd dvd around $500. If you include ALL the benefits of both systems the value of the PS3 appeals to more than just gamers (generally). For the basic gamer, you have 2x the resolution of the xbox and 3x the hard drive space. For the computer entheusiast you have a fully linux capable box (with Fedora's free version, not the $50 Yellow Dog version)that is fun to play around on. For the HD entheusiast you have a $400 cheaper blue ray dvd player than what's currently on the market. Sony aimed a shotgun whereas Microsoft and Nintendo are using lasers. Who's is better, it depends on what you want. But so far I've been able to play my blue ray's with no hiccups, haven't had any crashes whatsoever and have found my PS3 more than capable of fulfilling all 3 of it's strong points. When it comes down to it I compare the 3 main consoles to cars. The PS3 is a Jag, sleek, pretty, lots of luxury and extras. The Xbox is like a Dodge, rough, dependable, good solid base. The Wii will be like the VW, cheap, fun to drive, but no real horsepower. But then again, that's just my analogy and my opinion.
I'm not a fanboy of EITHER the xbox or the PS3, but it's pretty obvious that the guy writing this article has M$ so far up his ass he can taste Bill Gates. All I heard was "Blah blah blah, it's not the Xbox360" and "Blah blah blah doesn't work as perfectly as xbox right out of the box". Well, does ANYONE remember that when the 360 first came out several of it's power supplies overheated and became FIRE HAZARDS and some of the games flat out DIDN'T WORK. I will be getting a PS3 eventually, but so far I haven't heard of any horror stories of any PS3 malfunctions, just some akward functionality which can easily be fixed by a patch or two (which I'm sure microsoft has done as well). None of the game systems are going to be perfect at launch and all the fanboys on either side will be the first to throw a stone at the opposing team. Let time and gameplay decide the victor fellas. Don't be Hata's.
I was SO BORED by the intro to this article that I practically peed my pants when I realized that there was actually more and that by reading said article it would be possible to put me in a coma within seconds!
Am I the only one to notice that the PSU AND the HDD are parked on top of the tower case? As far as I know, both of those componants can create a significant ammount of noise. So, they' were able to keep their cpu/gpu quiet, but I'd like to see them dunk the PSU and the HDD in oil and see what happens:P

You have to give this comic a little credit. If I were a kid, regardless of the dogs, I'd still find this very entertaining because of the cool art and you have to admit, it's a great way to get kids interested in science. It's great for what it is people, so just let them take off every zig because there is no time, make your peace.
