I do know what kids tend to play, I also know some kids with access to those games, and what my family is like is highly irrelevent (unless my family thinks logically and yours doesn't), because I was not implying any disagreement with kids getting violent games in anything I said.

Hmm. I think I might object if I had a 10 yo playing Animal Crossing II with a friend who also owned a copy of Murder By Dagger: Destruction Apocolypse IV ...

My point is that how would a single unified friend code make anything worse? If Timmy and Bobby can both get their hands on some multiplayer murder game, how would a per-game friend code make them any less likely to play than a "Golden Friend Code", which is what you implied in your original post?

The only logical scenario I can think of is that in this hypothetical murder game the single player is alright for a kid but not the multiplayer. If so, I'd like to know how many games come under this category...

You do realise the 10 year old would have to buy said hypothetical murder game as well? Unless it's a multiplayer only game that won't let you get past the title screen without anyone else to play with, I think Friend Codes are the least of anyone's worries.

I enjoy the friend code system, but I hate the concept of not a single unified friend code. It's a mild inconvenience I'll admit, but an unnecessary one.

    a) being exposed to too much porn without any actual, real sexual relationships to compare it to totally screws up your view of what actual sexual relationships are like. This is a good reason to try to limit young teens' porn consumption until they're a little older and have a little more experience. I know some people with seriously f-ed up ideas of how sex should be, or what they expect their partner to be cool with doing...simply because they watch too much porn and don't talk to enough actual women. Fantasy, people. It's fantasy.

That's not specific to viewing too much as a teen without experience.

There's a petition for the BBFC to not have powers to ban video games on the 10 Downing Street petition site, with Manhunt 2 the main inspiration for the petition. Now I know that online petitions rarely do something, but this isn't petitionsonline.com. It's got over 200 signatures, so the least we'll get is a response from the government (the ID cards petition got one supposedly from Tony Blair himself). It's got 4 days left, so we should have a response by then.

Here's my question. When are router manufacturers going to start requiring people to use WPA security? I got a Wii a couple weeks ago, and used the wireless part of my wireless router for the first time. Setup of WPA was very easy.

Funny that you mentioned the Wii, given that the Nintendo DS has no WPA functionality whatsoever. Now personally I don't know which Wifi types are secure or not, but I've seen a hell of a lot of people complain about WEP's lack of security in discussion about the Nintendo DS.

I always hoped that Nintendo would rectify this by allowing one to use the Nintendo Wii as an access point for DSs only, since if you enable WiiConnect24 it's an always-on device (and it'd also have the added benefit of not having to buy a Wireless router at all to use the Nintendo DS online, if you bought the Wii LAN adapter). But right now, all the points in my house use WEP due to my Nintendo DS.

So I was in my school's 6th form centre, just hanging around with some friends eating lunch. Went back upstairs, and one of my friends was pissed because someone stole his sandwich. Yup, he just put the sandwich down on a table, went into another room for a minute, came back and it was gone.

We were all clueless, and he was getting pretty pissed because none of us were admitting it (it wasn't us). So while we were making MY SANDWHICH jokes, he had to go to IT and check out the footage from the cameras, which completely identified the perpetrator.

(At this point I'll mention this is a private school who've done many things you'd cry about the police doing, like asking students - well, just me - to take down Youtube videos, but they've never abused the cameras)

Now don't get me wrong, it's true that a camera may not help in every situation. As mentioned in another post, it can help you identify the criminal, but that won't help if you're already dead. Point is, this does help with a hell of a lot of crimes, especially stealing and the like. And yeah, they could be abused, but so what? Law enforcement with guns have killed innocent people (I can name two UK examples), you don't see a huge campaign to disarm them. Innocent lives are worth a lot more than your embarrassment for doing something stupid.
