For example, it's no longer worth it to me to buy less than a 500 gig drive, it's just not dense enough. Terabyte drives are still a bit too expensive for my taste, but I was thinking of getting one to put in a Shuttle I'd be building for my girlfriend - since they can only hold a single drive, I've heard.

Speaking as a Christian (though not a fundamentalist by any means), and an Engineer, I appreciate your attempts to describe the fundamentalist views to us here. I think part of the problem that some people here have is the concept of a being that exists, that has always existed, and will always exist. It just breaks down all the axioms and principles of engineering and science to recognize that that's possible.

I believe that God and Science can coexist... but we can't try to apply God to Science, or Science to God. If every time we observed an unexpected result we called it an Act of God (an extreme example, of course), we'd never improve our theories.

I think that it should be possible to create a scientific view of the universe that adequately describes everything in it, without depending on God.

I also think that it should be possible to be a Christian, in that universe.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I hope not.

    Exactly.

Open source software is great, right? Every geek should use it whenever they get the chance, and I'm all about that.

But, when we go over to someone's house to fix their spyware problem, or someone asks us "what's the best X", we have to keep in mind their skills and what they're willing to use. This is why more people don't recommend Linux straight off the bat when someone has a spyware problem - normal users just dont have the skill or inclination to make the switchover.

But, if we can get them to use Firefox, for example, thats a step in the right direction. Most people don't even notice the difference between firefox and IE anymore, except for the reduced popups and no ActiveX. I know that I'm still not good enough at Linux to completely switch. But more and more of my apps are cross-platform, and someday I'm going to hit that point where there's nothing important left to do that I can't do on Linux, and thats when the switch hits.

I'm sorry if people pressured the OP into trying things they werent ready for, or zealoted them into submission - we're not all like that! really! - but oftentimes, the open-source alternatives have significant improvements that we feel you ought to know about.
