Wow, so much hostility towards this idea. I've been living in South Korea for about 5 months now where they have a gaming channel, and I must say that it is quite interesting to watch, nd it is a *huge* success here. I have no doubt that given time, it will be a success in other parts of the world too.
So to all the people who are saying it will fail, you will be surprised when it does do well in the US.
Off the top of my head, Max has been used in:
The Phantom Menace
Attack of the Clones
Revenge of the Sith
The Incredibles
Italian Job
The Core
Paycheck
Scooby Doo 2
Catwoman
and many, many others.
ILM also use 3DS Max as well, and because Max is only on Windows, then ILM use Windows too.
It's silly to mention that x studio only uses y software, when really they will use y, z, a and b software. I know, I have worked on vfx on feature films at a few studios.
Australians travel up and down the east coast a lot. And there is still a fair amount that go down south as well.
But still, even if you don't travel, the phone comapnies can still cover an area as large as Australia, and not charge the people for incoming calls.
Basically I believe that if someone wants to call you, they should wear the cost of the call. Period.
Australia is also a big place, but no one there pays for incoming calls...
Paying for incoming calls is the worst thing I have ever heard of. When I lived in Canada, I used to have a phone company ring me up in the middle of the day wanting to do surveys all the time. I'd tell them to call back after eight, to which they replied, sure. But they never did. I suspect it was so that they can use up my minutes to get more money out of me.
CRT's in full force in the film industry
on
Are CRTs History?
·
· Score: 1
I work in the VFX film industry, and I can say without a doubt that CRT's are common place in all the effects houses I have worked at. All the big studios (Sony, Disney, ILM) have and need scores of CRT's for final colour manipulation.
Nothing has been able to replace CRT's as of yet, so unless the studios want less quality on the colour output of films, CRT's will always be around.
From the Sony website:
"The players' storage is incomparable: thanks to ATRAC3plus, the 256MB NW-E503, the 512MB NW-E505 and the 1GB NW-E507 can store up to 45 CDs' worth of music, which is almost 700 tracks (when using high quality sound ATRAC3plus audio compression technology)"
Corect me if I'm wrong but that's around 60 minutes worth of music per 22mb. Doesn't seam right to me.
Why does the USA have so many confusing state taxes? In Australia we have a 10% GST on everything countrywide, and that's it.
Much easier to understand.

Disney began production on Toy Story 3 about 8 months ago, and it's still in full swing.
It was an engrossing and hilarious read for those of us who were not able to attend the talk. Thank you for putting in the time to write this out!!!!
I remembered that I had already read this story: http://science.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=06/01/1 7/0342224
Lineage had over 4 million subscribers. WoW does NOT have the largest subscriber base in the world. I really wish they would stop saying that.

So is it going to be worth shelling out $100+ for a new OS from Microsoft, that the only new feature it will have is a fancy interface?
I noticed it too. What;s going on with the modding lately?
ILM have an environmental department that they use Max with for backgrounds.

Or more correctly, Everyone but the US makes their own internet, leaving the US to ask to join in too.
You forgot: 7. "I for one, welcome our..."

I'm 100% certain that whatever method the US Government puts in place will be full of holes large enough to drive a truck through.
Or fly a plane through...

Working harder and working smarter are two different things.
Rememeber as we found out earlier, the '????' in step 3 is actually 'Sue'.
