Your Idea wont work, the speed things heat up in a laser hit is just about instantaneous, and putting any kind of impurity on a highly reflective surface will cause the imputity itself to do the damage as it is now a HUGE heat source as it becomes high energy plasma and burns through the mirror.
This is in fact why only very highly reflective surfaces work to reflect Lasers at all, impurities vaporize and cause severe damage to the reflective surface.
Adding heat tiles _MAY_ do something, but since Im certain these lasers are generating heat in excess of the 1400 c that the shuttle experiences in re-entry they may be of little to no protective value, to say nothing of adding that weight to your missle, or costs associated with completely re-designing a new missle to have such protections.
Really, you shouldn't need this technology as your own designs should be pretty stable and inspected before launch.
What? You do realize that the previous accident was caused by damage sustained on takeoff.
That most of the slashdotters are referring to the robot as "She" in their posts?
Goes to show that the statement the creator made is accurate, we are reacting to it as if it were female.
Hell we even have guys making lewd remarks and sexual advances towards it, would they still be remarking that way if it looked male?
Met him at a convention once in Vancouver, was a lot of fun to talk with, and really responsive to the audience. Was very charismatic and held everyones attention throughout.
You will be missed Jimmy.
Good luck in your final voyage.
While Farmers cannot readily convert from using oil based tractors, at least some of the Ethanol producing plants are located near facilities that have a large amount of waste heat, (Bruce Nuclear power in Ontario for example) and use that cast off heat in the creation of the mash and distilling portions of the process.
Perhaps if all plants were to do this the "study" would end up a little less skewed.
I really seem to have touched a nerve with this post.
No What you did was show yourself to be a hypocryte.
Not unlike an alcoholic standing up in a bar and ranting at all the patrons how they are wasting their lives drinking and its bad.
Save the "born again" hypocrytical mentality for those on the same path as Jason Wooley, and leave those that are casual gamers with a sense of responsibility the hell alone.
No, Pivoting at 3000 miles per hour wouldnt be anymore stressful than pivoting standing still.
Actuall turning and evasive type maneuvers would put LOADS of stress on the pilot as he maintains the vector and velocity he is currently travelling at, then has an external force (changes in direction and speed) act upon him, this is why when current jet fighters perform aerobatic maneuvers, the load on the pilot os measures in G forces (the equivelant of multiples of the force of gravity) If one was in a starfighter that used its engines to accelerate to even a fraction of "c" then executed a hard evasive maneuver, the pilot would likely become chunky salsa in short order
All this aside, wouldnt the limiting factor likely be something built into the fighter? It IS an interceptor/single seat attack craft, and accelerating infinitely is fine, but you still have the stresses of the force of a high G turn imposed on the pilot to contend with, the fighter manufacturer probably took this into consideration snd created a limiter in the X wing for example that keeps its velocity under a certain point (maybe when the S foils are in attack position) so the pilot doesnt get torn apart by the stresses of performing maneuvers at extreme speeds.
Enterprise had a ton of potential, but fell into the classic "Trek trap" of the episodes revolving around alternate timelines and temporal wars. BSG was pure Sci-fi gold, it was another B5, where I eagerly anticipated watching the next episode. I think maybe I watched Firefly expecting something a little more than "The Wild West in space" the pilot was painful to watch, the characters seemed horribly bland, and really turned me off even looking at another episode. The dusty west theme made me think they were trying too hard to capture too many demographics or something, Im sure others saw it in a similar light, since it was relegated to the rubbish bin.
Are you talking about the Series Finale?
Picard wasnt responsible for life on earth, he was responsible for creating a temporal anomoly that grew larger as it went backward in time and prevented the events that caused the first life on earch from ever occuring.
Christ, fix that confirmation text by making the lines a diffrent color or something, its almost impossible to read.
Im really curious.
Are the people that are disparaging this tool the same ones that jump up and down pointing the finger squarely at parents claiming they should have "watched their kids better or known what they were doing." whenever some Columbine-like tragedy unfolds?
Lets face it, this is a tool, it helps parents that otherwise may NOT know what is going on in their kids daily lives get a better idea. Its not an infringement on personal freedoms, you really shouldnt have any at the teen/preteen stage anyhow, that would be why you are a "Dependant" after all, someone else makes the important decisions for you because they ARE responsible for your actions.

But it wont come out until everyone else has had one for 20 years!

Just before the shark repellant scene. They were climbing up to the chopper from the water where they had been tied to a buoy
