    Technically I think I was supposed to go to every nerv platform, but I'm with you. Java isn't the magic bullet it was meant to be so many years ago, but it does do better than most things in being cross platform. /Real programmers don't write in anything less portable than a number two pencil

    In addition to the war dialer, all the little hacks he pulled were actually based on real vulnerabilities. Unscrewing the handset and shorting it to ground really would give you a dialtone on some pay phones in that time period.

    You suspect that Snape will be leading the OotP or whatever they end up calling the Anti-Voldemort coalition? I think Snape was doing Dumbledore's bidding as well, but I find it highly unlikely that Snape is seen as anything but a bad guy until the end (and even then, maybe post-mortem).

    Ya know, if you buy a stolen Corvette, the legal purchaser of that Corvette has last their car.

    If I download music that someone copied, the person I copied it from still has it. If I wasn't going to buy it anyway, no resource was consumed except electricity and bandwidth.

    Really, because reading (and rereading) the original post, it looks like the author has confused javascript and java, which many people do quite frequently.

    It's probably best to avoid the term "applet" when referencing the Java and javascript languages unless you are actually referring to a "java applet", in order to avoid sounding like an idiot (even if you arn't one).

    I'm not going to disagree that virtual reality is a money pit, but giving the VirtualBoy as an example of why is misleading. The virtualboy was a steaming pile of poop.

    The difference between a scientist and a high priest is that anyone, ANYONE can become a scientist. You don't have to have the word "scientist" on your business card to examine your surroundings, to apply scientific principles to information you receive, and to develop and test theories about your world.

    Science is a process, not a school subject, and anyone who applies it is a "scientist".

    Don't know what to believe about global warming? Look up the information for yourself.
