UNIX and Linux have been careful about avoiding simplistic designs. ZFS is a simple, obvious answer to a problem: just pack all the functionality into one big codeball and start hacking.
Wrong, wrong, and wrong. Why don't you read about something before you start shooting your mouth off? ZFS is layered. You can even, y'know, read the source before you start making ignorant claims. I guess this wouldn't be Slashdot if people did that, though.
It's a common mis belief that has been proven over and over.
So show us your proof. No software is perfectly secure, but I'd love to see statistics showing that Microsoft fixes security vulnerabilities ten times faster than OSS developers. That, of course, would mean that Microsoft would be issuing patches within hours of vulnerabilities being disclosed. (Popular OSS usually gets patched within a few days.) Unfortunately, one can usually count on Microsoft to take weeks or months to fix vulnerabilities.
Feel free to also tell us about any objective (not funded by Microsoft) evaluations that show that GNU/Linux is, by design, less secure than Microsoft's software.
Only problem is, IP laws don't do shit for artists who sign away damn near all their rights, which is pretty much everyone working for the RIAA. It affects the labels a LOT more than the poor slobs who actually make the music. Were they to offer high quality, un-DRM'd copies themselves (or through an independent label), I would support them. But I'm not gonna cry over the 10 cents per song they would get if I were to use iTunes rather than The Pirate Bay.
I would like to note that I *do* buy cds, but if it's from a RIAA label, I buy used. I only buy new cds from independent labels.

I've only been using vi on a regular basis for about a year, but I catch myself trying to use vi commands in GUI apps! Sadly, they do not work.
Thurrott will still be ranting and raving about how much Windows is light years ahead of OS X and Linux.
But it is! Windows has had product activation for years, and now they've come up with something even better. Apple has yet to give me any way to make sure that my copy of OS X is Genuine! Using my copy of OS X without knowing whether or not it's Genuine is nerve-wracking.
And don't even get me started on those Linux people!;)
This is just adding another way for bad people to get into places they're not supposed to be....i mean, if the government can monitor me while on the internet, whats to stop "the bad guys" from using the same thing thats built right into the router?
Newsflash: the government is "the bad guys". Unless you don't mind being spied on by them, of course.

No, they're not losing rights. The school is ignoring their rights.

No offense, but I don't plan on sending my children to a public school, ever. I'd even like to avoid private schools, since they often have religious agendas.

People aren't being encouraged to seperate the two, they are being encouraged to abandon religion all together.
And that's a good thing. Most religions are a dangerous form of self-delusion, and the True Believers have a tendency to be downright hostile towards their fellow humans. There's also a long history of violence motivated by religion.
Besides that, if the state church of Finland believes that it's okay to take money from people without their knowledge and express consent, they're cocksuckers no matter what.
I'm beginning to get reminded of the rediculous taxes the Brits had on the US when it was still just 13 colonies, like the "Stamp tax" (which required a special stamp to be put on anything printed), the "Tea tax", and various other things
This government is so far fucking beyond that, it's riduculous to even make comparisons to the taxes the British levied on the colonies.
There are songs in catalog that actually have a value approaching zero. You try telling a record exec that fact, and they will spin on one heel and exit the room before you finish your sentence.
Songs with a value approaching zero? Where have you been for the past few decades? Most of that shit has a negative value. They would have to pay me to get me to listen to it.
Blizzard may be the only game company I wouldn't be afraid to work for. They've got enough money to release a game "when it's finished", rather than cutting corners to meet a publisher-imposed deadline.
Researchers at the Swedish National Institute for Working Life said they looked at the mobile phone use of 905 people between the age of 20 and 80 who had been diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor and found a link.
So instead of taking an honest sample of the population and waiting five, ten, or fifteen years to see who developed brain tumors, they skipped straight to the conclusion they wanted.
"A total 85 of these 905 cases were so-called high users of mobile phones, that is they began early to use mobile and/or wireless telephones and used them a lot," the study said.
Oh noes! A whole 9.5% of the respondants think they use their cell phones a lot! Too bad you'd probably see the same numbers if you sampled a population that had been using mobile phones for just as long but didn't have tumors. Of course, I'm sure these fuckers didn't bother with a control group. That shit's for amateurs who don't know what conclusion they want to make.
How well does the tablet work for first person shooters? Is it useable?
For a long time, I've thought that a touchpad (even a notebook-sized one) or tablet would almost as well as a mouse if they worked more like joysticks. E.G., you move your finger all the way to the edge of the touchpad and the cursor will keep moving in the same direction.
One thing that I love about our company is that there is no 'quit' in this company.

Shouldn't we have gotten to vote on this? Or at least been given a little pamphlet of information about it before hand? WTF!!!
