  1. Huh, I think I've seen this argument elsehwere... on Apple's G5 Speeds Challenged · · Score: 2, Interesting

I could swear I've seen this somewhere else today... hmm... yes that would be this article on AMDzone. Take a look at the second page for the SPEC score comparison...

Um so is AMD... You know the makers of Opteron & Athlon64? The ones who have several linux distro's already supporting AMD64? Unless you mean '64bit RISC hardware', but then again the Opteron is internally a RISC design so I guess that doesn't work either... Maybe... No... hmm.. Well I guess if you'd said "on 64-bit hardware that has no native support for x86" you might have been right...

Well I'm not sure if anyone will ever read this (since I'm coming in a few hours after it was first posted), but I used to be a big fan of MP3.com... You know before they were sued & had to sell their soul to the big 5 music labels...

I heard so much new music on their it was incredible... They gave exposure to all the bands/artists that posted work on their site and made it easy to find by spliting them into categories... New artists were lsited on each page of the site (like the main page listed all the msot recent artists in all categories, but the blues main page lists all the recent blues artists signing up). Beyond that they had reviewers who had there own section of the site & would spotlight artists, which often included contests voted on by the site goers. I picked up more than a few new bands by coming back each week for the 'female artist of the week' page.

This is a constructive promotional tool that did wonders for alot of artists that would not have been exposed otherwise... It was a model that worked wonders. Sure not every artist made it, but tons of them did... Heck several made steady income from CD sales only doing this, that's pretty unheard of in the music industry...

All in all I'm just saying that no the promotional end doesn't ahve to be handled in the way RIAA members currently do it, It can come from grass roots efforts to promote artists... In fact that makes far more sense then letting the 'evil empires' do it while screwing the artists out of every cent they can...

I hadn't been keeping up on Pocket PC OS stuff very much so I didn't think anything of it when they came in... Of course once I saw the article I went to Toshiba's website & realized they don't even mention it... Huh, I wonder how fast I'd be fired if I wrote a review of it for the slashdot crowd & posted it tomorrow..

Obviously using multiple paragraphs to seperate ideas is to much for you...

My first paragraph was just an FYI about how the original poster thought that the 'bonus materials' on the net would make a difference between CD owners & those not owning the CD... My point was that it wouldn't make a difference between actually owning a CD since most people that don't will still ahve access through whatever they used to get the music anyways...

Then I stated that if they really wanted to appeal to fans they would allow some if not all their music to be downloaded from them directly. Without having to buy somethign first. I didn't say I don't think artists should make no money at all. I said (specifically) that if they wanted to appeal more to fans than should do somethign that would add fans, not cosset existing ones...

Maybe if you'd read what I said rather than filtering it down to a few words that caught your eye you might have figured out what I meant...

  8. Re:Despite all the Metallica haters... on Slashback: Sorveteria, Rockets, Anger · · Score: 1

Um you do relaize that since most people will put all their music in one place & most file sharing programs rescan those places (if not the whole drive) when restarted. So that one person going to their site (after having bought the CD)now means that people who didn't buy the CD can still get those 'rare' 'value added' songs just as if they had boughten the CD...

If they really wanted to make fans happy they would simply offer such things for free on their website & not force anyone to buy a CD... People could then hear their stuff & decide whether they may want to buy the new CD before actually buying it in a store.

I could also add that due to their part in creating the 'music fans are pirates' attitude has probably lost some fans that will never ever buy a metallica CD again... Regardless of how they have 'changed' for the better.
