I'm not quite sure I understand where the security flaw in Mac OS X is. The problem is with users downloading anything they want and running it, typing in the administrator password just because an application asks.
I fail to see how this is Apple's fault any more than someone downloading a similar program in MS Windows is Microsoft's fault.
I've had really good luck with Target in Greece and Target in Irondequoit. I bought 4 in one day between those two stores. I have family on the other side of the state and it's even more difficult to find them there...
Considering they only allow 1 download of the track you purchase, the downloader probably is probably a good idea. They don't want a bunch of calls of people saying "I was downloading with the browser but it crashed, can I download again?"
I'm not sure if the downloader can recover from a crash or not, but if it does, that might be a reason.
I spent an hour on the phone with Amazon because I purchased a track from them in Omniweb. After installing the downloader and purchasing the track, it said I had downloaded the file already, but I hadn't. The guy unlocked the download again and I tried with Safari and it worked fine.
We didn't try with firefox, but omniweb is definitely not supported correctly by the downloader.
I remember spending hours if not days typing basic into my tandy 1000. Character after character. Then, saving it to a cassette tape only to find out it failed next time i tried to use it.
They wouldn't be paying attention if they were on the phone either. Maybe verizon, sprint and at&t shouldn't be able to offer cell phone service either because it could end up killing someone.
GM, Ford, Honda and others shouldn't be able to sell cars because they could be used to kill someone. KFC, McDonald's, Wendy's, Taco Bell, etc shouldn't be able to sell fast food because it could kill people.
It's the responsibility of the consumer to understand the consequences of what they do, as well as far any laws put into effect by their state. Listening to an ad or listening to their friend, they aren't paying as much attention on the road...
Yes, I suggested Bungie can learn from EPIC, not me. No, I can't better direct Bungie's resources...I didn't say that. Do you work for Bungie? Are you a paid Bungie shill? You seem to be digging way deep into what I say in order to find something so you can slam me for criticizing Bungie.
Stop...read what I say and just let it soak in. Wait a minute and read it again. Did I say I was smarter than Bungie? Did I say that I could run Bungie better? No, all I said was that I wasn't going to buy Bungie on release because they pulled a feature that I want. I also said that while Bungie may want to do things different, Microsoft might find it a good idea to get the two companies to talk...
Now, if you somehow can read into this and again see some form of slam to Bungie, seek professional help.
It would seem that I will not be buying Halo 3 on release. Maybe if enough people don't buy it at the beginning, it will spark some interest in Bungie to do it sooner than later. GoW has online co-op and it works really well. Microsoft should get Bungie and Epic to talk and maybe some knowledge will help make this happen sooner.
actually the material was the commercial and the commercial went something like this:
pc: careful i'm contagious, i have a virus mac: I'm ok, i can't get that from you. Macs don't have that problem (which is true, a windows virus doesn't infect macs and at the time there were no mac viruses)
False advertising? No. Open ended advertising, sure.
Law makers and politicians represent the majority of the nation, or should. They fact that they make laws that reflect the morals and beliefs of the majority of the nation is no surprise, is it?
How much was the NES when it was first released after adjustment for inflation? What about the Sega Genesis? Super Nintendo?
I don't think $400 is a lot for the entertainment that I have gotten out of this console. The few games I own (GH2, Forza2 and GoW) have provided me more than enough for what i played and the gamefly subscription brings me even more.
So the fact that the majority of Americans believe in a higher power hurts America? I fail to see the reasoning in that. Even if you don't believe in a god I fail to see how you are hurt by others who do. You might be annoyed, you might have to put up with people talking about it, you might even have to put up with your politicians making laws based on it.
I don't understand how following a religion is an act of "stupidiy or ignorance". It's a choice that most people have made and are happy with it. While I happen to not be religious, I believe it is significant when more than 90% choose to be. It doesn't hurt me at all, it doesn't even bother me.
And why does this bother you? You and all other slashdotters can sit there in your almighty knowing worlds and look down on the common man who believes in religion, magic or whatever.
Fortunately I haven't yet been screwed by Microsoft on my purchase of the XBox360. I had a launch unit that was locking up, but they replaced it for free and since then, no issues what so ever. I don't think every 360 unit is bad, but yeah a lot are.
I would like to see a list of companies willing to do something for free or without expecting anything in return. And from that list, I would like to see a list of companies not writing that stuff off as "volunteer", "pro-bono" or whatever on their corporate taxes.
What you don't seem to realize is you can only have food invented once...and then built on.
Anything I listed there might have been of influence from elsewhere, but it has a different spin. If that makes it "bad" in your mind, then fine. Pizza, as we know it, is based on an italian dish, it's still American. You can say we didn't invent the concept of dough baked with toppings, but neither did the italians.
Illegal aliens getting legal drivers' licenses and NY state tax payers becoming unwilling participants in the RealID program...
What a shame...

Probably those who think that gaming on consoles isn't extreme enough. I'm quite happy keeping my gaming on my consoles only.

I was on the phone with support for over an hour working out that one...

Where did I say I was smarter than Bungie devs? Are you inferring that? You are incorrect.
But, hey, if you want to read into things and make a complete ass of yourself, go ahead.

here, look for Viruses...
Quote:
PC: Better stand back this one's a doosy.
Mac: That's ok I'll be fine.
PC: No, no not be a hero. Last year there were 114,000 known viruses for PCs.
Mac: PCs, but not Macs, so...
Where does it say that Macs are invulnerable to viruses?

The console was released for $200 in 1985...
v 2005.pdf
With inflation that puts the console today about $400 or so according to this: http://oregonstate.edu/cla/polisci/faculty/sahr/c

Stop trying to change people.

So, I might be 'stupid' but I didn't get screwed.
I think you implied that if you choose BSD over Linux or Windows you'll get laid. /me switches.

If that is true, how come they have ActRaiser on the VC? While not one of their top games, I remember playing it back in the early 90s.
