From the age of 5-30, I grew up with an oak tree in our garden. It was perhaps 100-150 years old). Every year I lived there, it had loads of acorns. They fell and rotted, and/or were eaten by squirrels, but none ever germinated.
Then one year, about 5 years ago, it looked like every single acorn that hit the ground germinated. There were thousands of 1-2 inch oaks growing in and around the shade of the parent tree. It totally freaked me out. I've never seen anything like that before or since. I still wonder what was the cause.

Nobody in my house has watched any TV in the last 3 1/2 years.
When we put out house on the market a few months ago, our realtor told us to put in a TV so the house looked more 'normal'! (the TV which doesn't actually work - it was a prop) We still had a number of people doubting whether anyone actually lived there because there was only one TV set!!!
And those that are stirred by this, please don't off and write a protest blog. The internet is the new TV, the opiate of the masses, and blogging is self-help psychotherapy. You'll feel better once you've got it off your chest, but the world won't have changed one iota.
If you were wanting to hijack an application to act as an attack proxy, this seems to be the ideal tool. You just need to work out how to trick it into accepting keystrokes that the user didn't issue. Because it includes somekind of interpreter, it makes the job even easier, and you can target any application with almost no effort.
I suppose you might even manage to get access to someones FireFox saved passwords and start posting on Slashdot just to proove it wa possible. Eh Ch*mp?

Not true. Get yourself a degree in genetics and come back later.
The patch prevents you from 'innocultating' your PC against the risk of future 'infection'.
The gist of this press release is that I now have to keep a list of all the titles that might be affected just in case I, or anyone in my family decides to buy a MediaMax protected CD (or are given one as a gift) - Yes you can still buy a flawed CD. Even if Sony issues a recall on ALL affected CDs that does not give me 100% protection from this mess.
I now have to keep monitoring my PC forever more in case someone obtains an 'original' CD with the flawed DRM.
How exactly is this announcement and patch supposed to help me?
- All they've done is made my home admin tasks more complicated by heaping another problem onto me and they haven't given me an adequate solution.
How can Google stay in the news? How can we persuade people that Google will still be around with work to do in 3-5 years time? How can we persuade people that Google stocks are good for the forseable future?
Pseudoscience, 'complex' statistical analysis, oh - and one stooge in the audience...PR's finest toolset.
Because of all the uncertainty in the direction of media and players, I have not actually bought a single DVD or CD in the last 3 years. I haven't ripped a DVD/CD, I haven't downloaded music of films. I've bought the cheapest DVD player so I can watch rented DVDs.
I have refused to buy into the current genre or MP3 players and cool DVD/ widescreen/surround sound mumbo jumbo because it seems that the people that 'control' its format and distribution have every reason to repeatedly pull the rug from under me when they feel like it.
I wonder what percentage of the market I represent. How concerned with my attitude should the recording industry and Hollywood be?
In the UK I would be accused of TV license evasion until I proved that didn't have a TV. Could the same thing happen with music, video and TV in north America?
- "Sir, your credit card company has disclosed that you haven't bought a DRM home entertainment unit in the last 3 years. For this reason we are taking possession of your PC for analysis. You'll get it back if we find that the following file types are not present on your PC.mp3/.wav/.gif/.png/.....alternatively you can buy a DRM Home entertainment unit today and we'll turn our backs and walk away."

Point taken, that was dumb of me.
However, the 'results' are not statistically significant unless the 'experiment' is repeated on a larger population.
One school does not represent humanity.
It's still PR BS.
It really really ticks me off that a school has allowed a multinational to penetrate it's classrooms with pseudoscience.
There is no way on Earth that this is a scientific experiment. Where's the control group?
Its just b@stard Sony marketing using innocent children to get the keys to their parents bank accounts.
How much in kick backs is the school getting? I bet the priniciple negotiated getting PS3 for themselves etc? I'd really like to know. That would be interesting jouranlism.
(Any parents of these children out there??)
It's as bad as allowing that 'Intelligent design' BS into classrooms.
Fake footage sent in clear.
The real footage encrypted.

2. replace "DNS checker tool" with rootkit.

I am shocked I tell you!
I ask such a simple request (and very politely too I might add) and next thing I know you're turning to Slashdot for advice!
Too late buddy! You've aired my laundery in public and I'll never do business with you again!

Anyone else notice the "Architect" appears not to eat his own dog food. Hint: take a look at the computer he's reading his script from?
Look everyone!!! ....I failed to get first post....again!
Remember my name! You'll be seeing my name lots more!
1). I can't see it.
2). I can't smell it.
3). I can't taste it.

Thats what it will come down to in the end.

I don't and I'm careful that my wife and kids have limited accounts.
But 99% of the general public don't knwo the difference.
>> Don't run as administrator and you can't get it.
That suggests that the DRM cannot install itself if you logon as a restricted user - that should defeat the DRM?!
Anyone know if attempting to play a DRM'd CD as a restricted user prevents playback/ripping. I don't have any of the titles so I cannot tell.
<sarcasm>
There be a parental advirsory sticker that reads "Contains DRM - Do not play on administrative accounts"

What real purpose does this simulation serve?
Have you ever had the sales FUD speel from a double-glazing/insurance/encyclopedia salesman?
Well this Symantec's FUD gimmick.
To the layman it looks pretty, it looks realistic. It's full of 'scary' statistics.
But how does this help me protect my network? How does it make me more secure?
Symantec are also being irresponsible by helping the worm/virus writing community chart the course of their creations. (This is documented behaviour).
One more thing...it'll be another 'claim to fame' trophy for worm/virus writers to have their creation appear in Symantec simulations.
Sorry, I have to cut this post short, but I must go to buy my security from Symantec _right_now_ before the world implodes.
