I am using GSM standard phone here. If you turn it on and call emergency number (better not give it,people know it already), even if you don't have a SIM card installed, it will rise the power like 5x (antenna) and call it.
I have read that same there in USA (911) too... So, who the heck he tried to call I wonder? Its well documented on ALL mobile phones as a part of standard.
Popup ads and Gator are different things... Seems Linux people didn'T see that nightmare of course.
Gator actively tracks IE banners places, put own ad on them, suggests a "better site" to browse, of course, posts your entire browsing exprience to their servers. Thanks to MS for ActiveX again (!)
Gator=Program (.exe), Popup ad (if not targeted to a spyware program, regular ad) = (Jscript+HTML)
I once saw it on one machine... Amazing stuff... Not in good way of course...
At a friends house I logged on to Slashdot.org to check my usual headlines, a popup right from taskbar appeared, saying stuff like "You are on Slashdot.org, we also suggest checking xxxxx site (news.com I remember) "
I said, "who?" in my mind... Checked, its Gator advertising network.
I mean, its not just a gorilla etc, its much more, much much more...
Did you check Sun Java end user support pages lately? Found a single frigging article mentioning how can we (end users) prevent "applet not found" errors on their Java VM?
AOL would need another $45b to deal with frustrated end users saying Yahoo chat (on some machines) doesn't work etc..
Sun is right on issue but they should do better than giving a plain mail adress (mailto) link for support/feedback.
From an end user persvective, I couldn't agree more. I don't know about mac but... Here, on Opera and Netscape (6.x,7.x), when I use Sun Java (I don't have any chance) most of the "chat" etc apps creates problems except well written ones.
MS is really clever on this thing. First of all, like Sun says, they want to trick DOJ... Also they hurt entire non-IE browsers by using that old thing forcing most of the developers stay on that crap's compatability.
So, I/we will get lots of "applet not found", "applet crashed" crap messages for sometime...
Oh, Java geeks, don't hesitate to help giving arguments etc, its not the issue...:)
" Its speed and memory performance are better than the modern Sun J2SE jre. Why?"
Let me say why... Its just same reason why Windows 3.1 or Windows 95 (without IE) would "fly" in your computer... Because old version on new hardware that is...
Man, we were just on IRC now, joking about their 500mhz power and saying "I wonder when will the first freak will appear comparing them to their AMD XP, P4 something"...
I didn't think this time, it would happen... But you did...
Comparing a supercomputer to your stinky home PC... Bravo! (NOT!)
The day Opera becomes Open source, I am abandoning it.
Its somehow better while it stays closed source. Er, we have a open source browser already, Mozilla... I hope Opera never becomes open source and I don't think they are interested on Open Source...
heh, seems people started finding the real program. Oh and I'd use AVP.ru for advanced stuff...
Mcafee did a real funny thing (I don't believe its by chance) lately... They detected f-prot monitor (that thing sits on system tray, resident) as a worm!
http://www.f-prot.com/f-prot/news/noworm.html , a great press release... Starts like:
"Mcafee's antivirus product, using definition files number 4199 , falsely detects the RealTime Protector component of F-Prot Antivirus as a new worm. This problem with the Mcafee product applies to machines running Windows NT, 2000, and XP with F- Prot Antivirus(TM) 3.12."
"Needless to say the RealTime Protector component of F-Prot Antivirus(TM) is not a worm, neither a new nor an old one. The source of this problem lies solely with Mcafee's apparant lack of quality control."
Eww:)) Heh heh, I don't know what they mean but I understood the same as you did I guess...
Its just a political unsuscessful story. Like "Communist, controlled media morons got spoofed"
How about making a IQ poll on slashdot?
I wonder if anyone remembers the F-Prot (2.x?) DOS versions virus database, it had hoax stories. Some unbeliavable moronic hoaxes made news on Washington Post etc too...
This is "oddly enough" news. Laugh... But seems a bit political "oddly enough"...
Nobody likes China's current political system. You could be brave and make some real news about China, not "look, how moron is communist newspapers" stories.
MSnbc is broken... MSnbc is broken... I am REALLY surprised.
Mozilla guys fixed a Mozilla bug once to show that frontpage page right seems "genious" MSnbc webmasters figured its fixed via open bugzilla database and created another... Seems they think everyone is a moron.
Please, don't be funny. Complain about anything is broken but NOT sites involved with MICROSOFT.
This comment comes from an Opera 6.03 user blocked from DOZENS of MSN sites...

It doesn'T display on Opera 6.03, enuff said about MS'es practices...
Even its a lame thing, those are kinda advanced programs. It will figure its blocked and will block the software its installed with itself too...
I mean, superimposing IE banners on the fly etc aren'T like script kiddie programs.

Yea you are short sighted, latest quake III (and probably builds before, called point releases) supports pentium 4, its extensions...
Oh, until Doom arrives, it will be used, hate or not
First of all, there are many open source and in use applications written by Nullsoft staff... No, I won't give the URL, you find it yourself.
Besides, where do you think XMMS'es GUI design comes from? They didn't even say a word about it...
FDISK /MBR ;)
Besides jokes, cool idea. I always thinked of such a system too..
What I read is, its based on Nec SX arch, now imagine if it was a DX...
;)
Some nostalgia
They would tell? :))
:))
Same time, there are documented supercomputers and undocumented ones... Undocumented makes me curious

Mhz... PS/2=128bit with special commands just for games , Pentium=32bit.
When will this Mhz thing will end?
As far as I know Norwegians, they won't give a f*** to that threats... :))

Eww
Lets make a bet... I believe 2x amount of people open it... :)
Not trying to be funny but anyway...
PC Magazine will never go broke since they are MS weenies. Yea, a clueless/light reply to a clueless/light flamebait.
Don't ask, I am a real living image of ROTFL entry in the Internet encylopedia here :D

Yep I agree to that, but Opera (you should see the first version at '94 or '95, bleh) started that way...
:-)
Now they implemented SDI too... I was feeling "imprisoned" in MDI, now I figured (when I have chance to switch to SDI) it's better to be MDI
