    Yeah, we call that "Locking down the OS" and I don't want to be on the team that will have to do that here.
    No, this Gov Shop is full of seasoned techs that would love to see everything go Linux and open office...no profits, just upgrading costs.
    Saving the day ? We can't even get enough people to look at Politician's Platforms in an intelligent manner pre-voting, how the hell
    are you going to get that many people to look at their processes in task manager once in a while, or understand they're being lead
    astray into 1984 with this ?

    Windows ME was awesome. (if you bothered to update the bios)
    Our calls dropped by almost 50% at the MS Callcenter I worked at in the day.
    Between restore points and registry backups that didn't make it into Win2000, it srayed
    on my home PC's until XP SP1 R23 since the first SP's were the pits.

    They've been trying to get us back onto Terminals for two decades, looks like they might win this time.
    If the public buys into a service versus a product, we can wave the white flag on any privacy we had left, and censorship
    will be just another feature down the road (everyone forgot about the AOL browser I guess).

    The rest of us will continue on linux and have 10/8/7 on secondaries to support our Clients, but hell if we don't crap
    on it at every turn for being a Trojan Horse OS.

    GMO's aren't the problem, how we use them is.....now this ?
    There's a reason to believe in the complexity of Evolution's tests and trials.
    When we start mucking around with building blocks like this let's hope we remember that we don't
    really know how this lego set will act once it's built up....really interesting though I must admit.

    (GMOs belongs in Labs and Cures, not in crops or Livestock)

    That "something" might have been Nothing.
    Attributing that event or non event to God or any God is just nonsensical and part of your upbringing only.
    The "Magic Man done it" approach is not an answer, it's a cop out.
    It has no basis in reality. Everything could just have been here all along....

    The Big Bang and the instant inflation could be a cycle of events that we cannot understand via our short lifespans...

    Windows 7 and WinXP until M$ gets their act together...
    They may play on my Director's fears, so we have to apply everything M$ pushes out for our Networks, but at home and for most of my peers, we've been running XPSP2 for so long now that going to Win8 is like asking to be sat in a pool of sh*t.

    Then again, I'll be nearing three decades in the biz soon so it might be a good time to start putting my Linux boxes up ahead of Windows.

    Most people abuse what they don't understand....
    Then there are bad batches of HDD's you get stuck with as well.

    I still have old PC's with fully working HDD's that have been treated with respect (never overheated).

    I don't expect the same from the PC's at work though, server rack or PC.

    Most of our PC's have auto update off and we choose what third party software to run when we discover 0 day bugs (that we usually solve on our own). This whole phone line to the mothership approach to OS's has to stop, but it won't with that cloud over our heads. It's almost time for me to retire and go fix PC's and servers in my spare time, since I can see the coming storm...
