The more you tighten your grip, Tarkin, the more star systems will slip through your fingers...
I like the fact that they declare that this will be a defacto standard. No one in his/her right mind will use it, and the Industries that do will have it defeated. I guess the whole brouhaha employs a lot of techs so maybe this fight is good for the economy....
Rambling ? not at all...
Do we need to say it ?
Planned absolesense and degradation....
You could make a bullet proof internet client etc...
The next thing you know it would come under state control...
The Kaotic nature of the web is what keeps it free and dangerous...
The lack of education (not tools) is what keeps the revenues up....
If every ISP terminated all nefarious websites and accounts they would lose untold millions...
It's the old perfecting the battery story, if you make something that good, you somehow destroy its economic future....
I was just upset about another fear book coming out...
You'd do better spending the cost of the book on a tech with Cred showing you how to protect yourself....someone's that's been on the IT plane of existence for over 5 years minimum....
Well put...

I know we're talking about the common user here.... But drive a car with no regards and you get the same thing...an accident. Get a mechanic, a good one that can show you the pratfalls and some fixes.
But if you drive like a fool and visit "those" sites you get what you get. Get Acronis a re-image your ass every week....you'll be fine.
THANK YOU !
You took the words right out of my mouth....
As I finished reading TFA I just couldn't help but scream "Keep the poster away from IT Management!!"
I'm so sick of unrealistic demands being put unto us. and the way things are going it's just getting worse.
Is this considered trendy ? Of scientific merit ?
How much money went into this nonsense ??
We still don't have cures for the worst of our ills but we'll study
pot modern cave paintings ?
Big talk from people that see a sad future for the INTERNET. Changing the internet from the free expression information highway to the pay for content quagmire won't come easy, and will probably fail.
De list all of Murdoch's stuff, please, it's all biased and negative content anyways... We'll make do with bloggers and open minded sources of "news" and "information" without having to filter his muck. Microsoft ? well, the day we have to pay to get access to their websites they'll see traffic drop in conjunction with online sales and profits.
It's just like the music industry, the more you squeeze the customer, the less he will spend. I don't really think that Murdoch has a lack of understanding the net, I just think he wants to turn it into his own view of it's potential as a direct marketing source with complete control, something the internet isn't set up to do at the moment. The Internet is and hopefully will continue to be somewhere we can all have freedom of choice, information and navigation. The day they throw up pay booths we'll just start using side roads, until the whole net turns into a line of sign two way transaction system.
You're talking about God(s) as if you were choosing a fabric softer... As a complete Atheist with no links to any groups, I can say safely say that older religious groups have gone through the same growing pains as the Scientology nuts, but over time have gotten beaten back into the mainstream.
Most new "Religions" seem more aggressive and are devoid of any Faith Based Morality.
So let people believe what they want unless it does harm, then shut it down... We need Religions as a guiding influence on those who cannot find or create their own meaning in life, but that doesn't mean we have to let these people walk all over the rest of us.
As for Scientology, yeah, they're getting their hands in too many pockets and creating economic ripples and ruining the lives of many poor unfortunates... time to shine a light on that...
No, just don't worry about the "XPrience"...
Just put out what you promised to deliver...
Your visitor count and business level will tell you if you're loved or hated.
Buzzwords never live up to what they promise....
"to know how people are accessing the sites so they can work out how to improve the experience for the user."
Oh please, pull the other one....we all know what cookies are ultimately used for. Don't even try to feed us that line that this is needed for "proper feedback" This isn't the 90's anymore....
There are many good suggestions on here but let's face facts...
Some simple webpages will infect your family, infections are hard to avoid...
Set them up as non Admins on their PC's and make an image using Acronis or Ghost.
(Acronis is great).
Set a small portion of the C drive as system and point their Docs at a folder on a second partition, and point anything else they might lose in a re imageing scheme there too.
Make sure the Images you create are on D or a second drive.
Then show them how to restore their PC's (takes less than 4 minutes if you set it up right).
Voila, with that simple one time setup I keep more than just my family up and running...
This sounds like Newbies at play...
Keep it cool and it will last..
Let it go warm, and hardware sales will wipe out your savings....
Then there the time our power went out and the backup to the building
was wiped out by MetroPower, The server room became a sweat lodge with as
many fans as we could find. Had we been warm in there we would have lost
numerous server towers and Raid Racks...
I like my server room served at 69 F / 19 C... chilled not baken TY.
Windows 7 is NOT as or Faster than XP. PERIOD, stop the lies already.
Although it IS faster than Vista, that's not saying much....
Now saving 17% power ? you can keep it.
If M$ HAD brought forward an Improved performance OS we would have all jumped on it.
They didn't....Move along....
Your final statement isn't worth responding to.
It's not my fault! It's yours !
No responsibility, no accountability...
Whoever designed this should be sued and bring in the hacker as a witness...
If I build something and you can get around it, I WILL be paying you
to show me how you did it and PLEAD with you to help me out....
Trying to cover my ass for my stupidity, well, that requires an act of ignorance.
I remember reading that these things would be offered at the same price this article
says they are being rented at. I should have known that thinking Grandpa could afford one of these for less than $3k (once they went in high production) was foolish.
Still, here's hoping that they replace all those "Rascals" bumping into the public.
Those things just turn you into lumps of meat on wheels, whereas these suits could not
only help you get around, but help with therapy.
People will believe what they need to believe.. It's sad and unfortunate, but with all the evidence from the Garbage islands to the fact that the Ozone holes shrunk massively the two days after 9/11 and the US saw almost no flights, Big biz will tell the gov to tell you what is correct to think, otherwise you "hate America". Bush might be out of the White house but at some point we're going to have to admit publicly that big biz runs the show, PERIOD. Money is king and damn the masses since they'll cut off their own chance at health care if we tell them "Socialism" is coming.
Whether or not humanity is helping "Global Warming" is a wild goose chase. We need to curb our actions now. But since our lifespans are so short, we seem to choose short term solutions that make the long term worse. If you had to choose between being relatively comfortable doing what you want, and scarifying for the future, what would you do ? Humanity is doomed and I think many people are starting to understand this, and choose to make the bucks as opposed to trying to save a planet they'll only be spending 78 years on.
You have to take into account that many businesses now have MS teams onsite looking at specific requirements "To make 7 integrate more easily with their systems".
That's what's going on here now. We don't want to leave XP, many depts are saying shooo away. Money changes everything when discounts and services are added in so you too can Fly the Flag ! I worked for M$ during the ME-XP and WIN2000 Roll outs and have no hard feelings either way.
But I've used windows since 1.1, and just can't get away from the fact that XP has been their best product yet, and everything else falls short. I'm not personally going to be able not to have at least one box in my home office on 7 (RC running already) to support peeps that do go for it.
But when I turn around to my own private box it'll still be on XP, because I believe I should be expecting an upgrade, not a downgrade. Maybe by Win8 they will realise that the masses aren't as dumb as they thought.
Because the plan is to take it out of your intranet and ship it out towards the cloud computing freaks. Yes, Intranet web based products are great, assuming you have the hardware infrastructure to support it. Most Gov and institutions always push out projects that require better boxes but delay the migration stating that there is no money for it and that the software will run run fine on existing platforms, and when it doesn't it's another fiasco. All I meant is that web based application will sooner or later want to be third party managed offsite to cut us out of the support since we're expensive (SA Network admins and the IT lot).
It's about performance. PERIOD ! That's probably the first thing we look at here, then security and such... We have an industry that promotes hardware obsolescence, and we fight it tooth and nail. Vista or 7, same difference. I don't care what the GUI is going to look like if they create an OS that speeds things up. If Porsche came out every few years with a slower vehicle that consumed more and more gas they would likely fail. What so hard to understand here ? Give us performance or GTFO.
Yes actually, they can bring it back up from backup...
I had a friend that quit for over a year and got her 60 lvl toon back
within a few weeks. Might be faster now who knows...they do a lot to keep
clients...
The more you tighten your grip, Tarkin, the more star systems will slip through your fingers...
