What if the car that is being vandalised is making a critical delivery for my business or taking a gravly ill relative to the hospital? then can I kill the fucker?
There is no way this will work: if a firmware/OS update for a router or switch or server comes along and it implememnts the back door, what sysadmin in their right mind would apply it? also, what about open source firmwares and OSes that sont/wont have the back door because they are not based in the USA? will it be illegal to use a Linux gateway unless it is Novell or Redhat powered?
Put a lock code on your phone, and also put a memo on it; if the school confiscates it and reads the memo, they have bypassed a security mesure to illegaly obtain access to your copywrited work.
If this happens, I promise you that it will be a matter of hours before the class action suit against Insight, Comcast, Cox, Directv, Echostar or anyone who plays along for false advertising the DVR capabilities.
I can tell you that the life-blood of current college students is 3-4 year old PCs with Maxed out ram and paying a geek in pizza and Mt Dew to come delete the trial/spy/crap ware, configure email and install Office, and whatever special apps they have in their major...pizza and MT Dew is good pay for a college geek...
Comercial tools like Adobe CS, MS Office (OOo is good, but PHBs want the real thing if you use it for work) iTunes and iPod officially supported...Ubuntu is great but it isnt going to get a lot of total conversions, it will be co-used if at all by Mac users...
Of cource they deny this; if they let the rumor run, trust in the company is shaken, if they confirm it, their reputation is shattered...and if they go through with it...holy hell, watch out...
Everytime I hear someone say "there is no way we would ever use that much data", I laugh out loud! HD cameras are coming, bandwidth is getting faster and cheaper (DSL is like $12 here in Indiana) and lets face it, people want to save EVERYTHING...weather this is good or bad is a differant topic, but the fact is, if you give people the storage, they will use it...Remember when you asked yourself "How will I ever fill this 500MB HDD?" I do...
I go to jail if I claim exotic tax writeoffs or claim 22 children and my goldfish as dependants om my 1040 tax form...why shouldnt they go to jail for claiming to have a "cure for all that ails 'ya"? As a tazpayer I love to see public money abusers thrown in prison...cow if only we could do the same to senators who build bridges to nowhere in Alaska...
Making an icon saying "KILL Mr XYZ" who you see on a daily basis is pretty threatening. If he had said something like "Mr XYZ Sucks" or "is evil!" or even "is a f***ing D**K" is free speach...threats are not.
There is a huge differance in spyware bundled with (insert crummy freeware here) and what WGA is/does. One has a reasonable expectation to privacy and security when downloading vendor-recomended or requiered updates to the opperating system that they paid for, regaurdless of what the EULA says. MS abused their position in providing "security fixes" by installing this crud. Hey Balmer, I paid for the OS, stop looking over my shoulder!!
If you dont want the crapware in Adobe reader and shock wave, there is usually a "dial;up users" button on the download page, click that, and Reader is suddenly ~5MB...
When I was in school everything was mTVs fault, then video games, then "the internet" MySpace is the new whipping boy for the buck passers, give it 3-6 more months and it will pass...like all yuppy fads...
What stops me from buying games at retail is that for the most part they suck, other than graphics nothing has improved in the last 10 years, and the controls have gotten too complex, I should not have to "learn a controller" it should be intuitive, I shouldnt need 1/2 dozen cheat codes to unlock the really fun stuff...I dont have hours to dedicate to gaming, but I would love to pick up a game and be able to use the coolest wepon/tool/car/player avalible...stop this "earned extras" crap and UNLOCK THE THING SO I CAN PLAY IT!
I hear so much about this bad Apple hardware, yet I have never seen it outside of a freind of a friend who had a bad ibook logic board which was happily replaced.
I wonder if these extreme heat issues, bad batteries and such may be isolated cases; make a million of anything and a few dozen are bound to be screw ups, which can simply be replaced, that is what warenties are for.
could it be that Apple users are more apt to go into forums or make a blog about bad hardware than a Dell or HP user?
Open Enterprise integration: A buddy was showing me what could be done with suse desktops and a Novel Open Enterprise server; really easy managment, webmail, PIM and colaboration, so the answer to your question is: Suse is worthless unless you are going to spend $$$ on Novell open enterprise...it is just a loss leader now.
He has a ton of baggage too, it is called "legacy support" the biggest problem with windows is the refusal to break legacy support once and for all, shoot for a secure and easy OS like what Apple did in OSX, then introduce legacy support via a virtual enviornment untill people fully adapt...can this guy do what Bill couldn't or wouldn't?

and is quickly killing off component inputs on new HDTVs, this move only makes sence.
