I remember when I read that the 980 had just been supported by Linux...heh...that's when I still had a 760, kinda happy I didn't buy a 980 since it got CUDA support so late. I love the speed of the 1080 - but since I use Linux exclusively for 3D rendering and Video editing, I'm going to hold off until there's decent support for it.
I don't see the point of having 32GB of ram, games won't use it, do you have some special application that will use it?
I have a lot of Apps that more than need it, I do 3D graphics a lot and Blender loves memory, the more memory - the happier the renderer. And I also do a lot of video editing for my Youtube show - here I would actually love 64 GB ram...can't get enough ram, seriously. Remember - the video files you guys see are COMPRESSED - when you edit video live and REAL time - you have to have the memory for all that RAW video in the memory.
I can't wait to get started myself, I have extensive 3D modelling knowledge that comes in handy when it comes to processing the models needed for quality printing and saving on material costs, plus an extensive background in electronics. I can tell you this much - 3D printing will be the biggest industry of our lifetime soon. It's just a matter of time.
...But only because Noland and I are such old geezers.
I grew up with Pong and Atari VCS 2600 (the original 6 button version) and eventually I programmed my own video games on Commodore 64 when I was 12 years old, unfortunately I had NO clue one could make a living out of it - I just thought it was fun so I gave my games away to friends.
Arcade games where my inspiration for purchasing and coding games in the first place, I loved those big awesome sounding machines for the entertainment they provided, all the arcade machines at the time were ahead of their time and FAR past any console or personal computer capacity graphics or soundwise. I often enjoyed going to the local arcade hall and hang out at night with the Arcade-Repair man that was servicing machines all night, just so I could get a sneak peak inside the machines, he took great pleasure in telling me about the latest Yamaha Sound Chips, Texas Instruments Speech Processors (TMS 5220 anyone?) etc. back then. I sometimes even got PCB's from the smashed up arcade games with me home so I hooked them up on my RGB compatible TV set, and made a wooden box with a real arcade stick in it.
Today it's all about mobile and apps, the buzz and excitement (such as I see it) has gone out of the games, surely simple games like Flappy Bird etc. can be super addictive just because we're such competitive spirits - and any idiot can understand it right away...these are the simple appeal of simple games. ?
But arcade games are fantastic and set the way for new technology, it has always been that way - I have a feeling it could return with the now finally about to be ready VR-Gaming technology. Still...3000 bucks is a hefty price to pay for the average consumers, and you'll need even more money than that if you want a super smooth experience with all the details (arcade comeback anyone?).
There's nothing that beats the console / arcade experience IMHO. The graphics is secondary, the gameplay is THE GAME!
I'm almost in my 50s and I've constantly experienced ageism. It's easy for people to point fingers and say if you're competent you'll get any job no matter what - that would come from people with endless network contacts, but if you're mobile - and have to find new networks all the time then it's not THAT easy because believe it or not - most HR and Recruitment centres ignore you if they see 40+ in your CV. They don't even bother to read it after that, you won't even be contacted.
And this is a freaking catastrophe - because at least Sweden (and Scandinavia) where I live, the government have decided that we're LIVING LONGER all the time and pushes the retirement age up towards 67 - 70yo because the society can't afford to support the pensioners that keep living longer and longer, we're expected to reach 100 nowadays, if your retirement happens when you're 60 years - this means we've got to support you for 40+ more years, no society can afford that.
But you do the Math: Ageism = companies want them younger and younger - Government expect us to live longer and longer = extreme poverty above 40 to you're 70 if you make it that far.
...and it works just fine for what it does. It can STILL play high quality youtube videos like it always could, and essentially it's just my alarm clock and phone I use every day. I drool at the new Samsung Edge S7 etc...but the game is over when I see prices like 1000$ for a freaking phone, all of a sudden my old phone becomes super attractive (it's an old HTC Legend solid-alu chassis / Oled screen) and what I like about it is that I can still get 3 DAYS battery time out of it.
Yep, I've just upgraded recently and kept my 9-year old "Q6600" quad-core based computer for other tasks (it's even way overpowered for my little music studio).
I easily expect my new I7-5820K 32 GB DDR4 ram to last me the next 10 years, it's already overpowered for what it does.
I'm norwegian myself - but the guy killed over 70+ people. This is the net result of our touchy-feely idiotic social democrat society where even the mass murderers have social rights. THE GUY KILLED OVER 70 PEOPLE - HIS RIGHTS WENT FLYING AWAY WITH THAT.
I also tape over the little MIC hole, even on my Wii U console and any other devices that comes with a camera/mic.
Other than that, I've got mechanical switches on my Studio Mics. They're almost always set to OFF.
We got to stop this turning back to the dark ages thing we're doing.
Control this control that, nothing really ensures anything - the only thing that comes out of all of this is massive citizen surveillance and doesn't stop terrorism at all. In fact - I'd go as far as to say it's the ROOT of future terrorism on the population.
We seem to have completely forgotten what the constitution is all about, every man (and woman) has the right to pursue their dreams where ever they want to, whether in America or not, be it Europe, be it Asia...doesn't matter - as long as YOU are happy!
I'm a Norwegian (so don't even think that I'm a desperate refugee as I'm 100% native to Norway and we're doing just fine, and we can afford to open our borders as well. I'm actually kind of sick and tired of this ridiculous madness where borders are closed for certain people. People are PEOPLE and you can live where you want.
...Oh well, I hope Netflix will keep supporting it, because (and I have ALL the other consoles + pc) it is the BEST, smoothest Netflix experience you'll ever have.
Wow, I'm astonished of how bad Sony manages their gaming consoles.
They started out really great by literally introducing affordable hardware 3D for everyone, opened it up with Linux later on - and was still the best alternative for free to play via the internet, something that made their PS3 stand out from the rest, Xbox declined...people souring up over being the only console where you have to play to pay...
And what the HELL happened to you guys?
First you rape the customers in the butts by telling them that you will NOT touch the Linux part of the PS3, then a MONTH later you force everyone to accept the removal of Other OS option.
And then you introduce the PS4...telling the world it's the new black and ready for ALL the new systems, VR, 4K etc...and you decide to go the Microsoft way with Play to pay...which is the no#1 reason the Xbox didn't really take off...
And now...you are telling the LAST loyal fanbase you have - that their next gen console (PS4) is a dud, sorry guys...you'll have to sell your new...err..old PS4 console for a PS4.5, it's the same but it will keep our promises this time - we promise!
Woah, someone ought to do some firing rounds at the offices over there.
Brexit is a fad. It's even a FUD. It's all about the people not feeling they're getting the benefits out of what they'd hoped EU would be. I understand UK perfectly, they're on the giving end of EU, they're the ones that have to take the fall for Europes refugees (pretty much like Sweden, but on a bigger scale) and they're the ones with the most generous benefit rules and regulations. The thing is...that's not EU's fault, that's Britain on Benefits Fault, not EU as such. Cameron is right.
UK is important, very important, unfortunately they're not treated as such per generosity, so they need to do this to set an example. I hope you follow me so far. I'm in Sweden (but born Norwegian as if it had anything to do with it)...
...If you consider the fact that the employees of Google knows pretty much anything there is to know about humanity by now - the 4Chan guy is probably an angel in comparison.
Think about it - you KNOW just PARTS of the stuff that can be found on the internet, Google knows there's MASSES and MASSES of this stuff, and they also know that a LOT more people have a dark side than most could even comprehend.
The thing is - eventually humanity will learn and understand that what people think of - isn't necessarily how they will act later on, but if there's anything Google knows from all and everyone on the net - no one is really that innocent - but everyone wants to KEEP things that way, so...
I'm a user of the now Arduino compatible ESP 8266-12E ever so popular IoT 2$ device. It's a WiFi on a chip + a nice 80 MHz microcontroller (32 bit) with 4MBit flash ram to boot, it's insanely cheap for what you actually get...
If you just use them as they are (With the AT+ command set, hayes compatible) - they already phone home because they can Upgrade the firmware - albeit you can initiate that yourself).
But unless you've got a WiFi hotspot with a firewall where you can Wireshark monitor your network traffic - you will have NO idea whether this thing is phoning home with a few extra details about your network, it's bad enough that it actually phones "home" with your IP address, I'm not sure if it does that - but it's def. worth an extra look. Anyone know the details about this? Have anyone tried looking into the ESP8266 series to see if they even phone home after they've been bootloaded with the Arduino Bootloader?
We've got to be a little careful about this - I agree completely - It's so tempting to just insert those wonderful all-in-one IoT devices here and there...and forget about the advanced details...because lets face it - they've made it wonderfully practical for us to use with very little skill or knowledge required to get these things talking to each other (while - perhaps...hiding a darker side).
Depends on what processor / devboard you chose for your project.
Arduino is a CONCEPT not a particular microprocessor. Yes, the UNO and the NANO are 8 bit processors, but there's plenty of 32 bit ARM processors with ARDUINO compatible systems out there. I have plenty of them. One of the cheapest is the little ESP 8266-12E which is essentially a WiFi chip for IoT, but it comes with an 32 Bit processor with 4mbit ram, 80 MHz speed - and for only 2$.
I was just showing my students the other day that you could in fact make your very own mobile phone - even a smartphone if you so should wish.
If you have no clue about this, or think I'm BS'ing you a little - well - search youtube and google and you shall find numerous people building their own phones. All you need is an microcontroller of your own choice (or several if you want it to become powerful and do various tasks independent of the main cpu). And Arduino projects these days are as modular as it can get, you can purchase temperature sensors, gyro sensors, accelerometers, gps modules, gprs modules, touch screens and everything you need to make your own phone. Sure - it will look like something you just made out of LEGO - but you can use your prototype to just take the Open Source hardware and put it together as a schematic which you in turn can send to some Chinese PCB manufacturer who'd gladly print just 20 of them for you for pocket change (people do this all the time, I'm not kidding!) and you and your friends have your latest creation. Might not be an Apple i2000x something something - but it's yours and doesn't come more personal than that.
That is the same thing - whether they molest anyone doesn't matter since the act of looking is also a crime.
Woah, that's a scary thing you just wrote there, anonymous or not... just the fact someone thinks like that is scary.
There's a HUGE difference between the act of molestation and looking at images interpreted as such, the only reason to stop images like that spreading on the net is to stop unscrupulous people from profiting on the misery of the victims.
The real scare here is where do we draw the line of what's okay to look at and what is not? Did you know that in some countries you can get arrested and jailed just for looking at drawn pictures? There's even a reason for that, and the alleged reason for this is that it's supposed to "normalize" actions depicted which is otherwise immoral and disgusting to most of us and to prevent real cases of molestations if the drawn material can arouse a potential abuser to want to commit an act of abuse in real life.
All good intentions - but the problem is - we don't actually know if it makes any difference, heck...we don't even know if drawings would KEEP offenders from offending since they could potentially get an outlet for their feelings on that. And in my book - it's better that there are no victims (drawn characters aren't real, so nuff said). But I shall digress.
The point is - if looking is a crime, what will you be looking at next that will be looked upon as a criminal act? Knowledge? What knowledge...
FBI have no real interest in the sexual deviants, they only want the tools and to be allowed to use the tools for whatever they want. The entire stings are public pleasers, get whoever the public have decided to hate this decennial and get the tools to get EVERYONE (not only the sexual deviants), but eventually when they LEGALLY got whatever tools they want - so NO one is safe, regardless of belief, creed, sexual orientation or political beliefs - the point is they want access to whatever you do, think and consider, every opinion that you have - so this can be used against you in a world with more and more rules, the masses being ruled by the few that wants it all.
...what you'll REALLY be worried about though is where you'll get your next job.
Science is good for us, it keeps the ideas fresh, spreads the wealth instead of a selected few, it even helps contribute to natural selection (however harsh that might sound), but there's something MUCH worse you SHOULD worry about - and that's the coming civil unrest, mass lay-offs, the new working class vs the non working class.
Technically I think the future is bright, but that's only AFTER 20+ years or so...when we're past that rough transition we're just currently seeing the beginning stages of. The automation is actually good for us, then we can concentrate on things that matter instead of one big Who's got a job and who's not game we're so used to from the industrial revolution. Our 50's factory work ethics and school systems are long outdated and needs to change with the times. We're no longer an assembly line population. Our main concerns in the future will be improving our health, inventions and innovations, media and entertainment will be MASSIVE. But we won't have the same kind of jobs we used to have, we'll have some kind of society where the money as we know it - has been totally abolished, but everyone will be able to pursue their own happiness (if we succeed as a society) and we will look into improving life on our planet rather than see who dies with the most stuff or have the highest pile of money.
Now this scenario is as scary for the small elite who owns the largest amount of property and capital in the world as it is for the little man in the street who's just worried about losing his nickel and dime income. Why? Because the rich elite is just happy with the way things used to be, they had it - you don't and the politicians lobbied to make you perfectly content with what you got - and be that happy little worker bee that you should be, collect your salary, support your family and die like the rest. But the future won't be like that at all, in fact - it will even out the classes because when money vanishes - everyone becomes equal in status...so the status will take a different form, like in innovation and science instead of how much money you managed to collect.
This means a lot of people will live better lives, but the way things have worked so far...I can promise you there will be a huge fight, the elite will NOT give up their wealth so easily, and the average Joe will become pretty desperate as we slowly but surely move into total automation, and they will fight with beak and claws for the few jobs that are left. Politicians will pretty much try to save their own hind because they're exactly like you...humans too...so they'll tell YOU what YOU want to hear to become elected, if not...YOU will just vote for those that do, yep...that's humans for ya.
So yep, we're in for a TOUGH ride, but it will get better, rest assured. Or...don't rest! Do your best!
It's already pretty hard as most unemployed have already experienced.
The world is changing as we know it, it will actually be for the better in the future - Automation will actually be a blessing in disguise, but it's only a disguise because we're experiencing massive lay-offs right now (and even more in the near future). Brace yourselves people - because you're in for a ROUGH ride.
The rising unemployment will result in civil wars and civil disobedience, it will give fuel to would-be terrorism and religious fanaticism because people don't know where to turn to. It's hard to explain to someone that in ca. 20-50 years (sped up, if you all play ball) when they're faced with a bunch of mouths to feed and the only thing you feed them is a smooth talking politician or some glorified scientist trying to tell you what's in store for you if you just hold on a little longer. Many of these people can't afford to HOLD ON a little longer, they've not got 20+ years to spare, they're worked out, burned out - need money right now and don't know what to do. People are fighting over the last few jobs like mad dogs and there will be a split-class society (much worse than as you knew if from the wealthy vs the rest of us). There will be those WITH jobs and those WITHOUT. This is exactly what we're trying to prevent in the future, but it's gonna get hard before it gets better.
The truth is, even the politician (you may hate them, but they're people too) have literally NO clue how to tackle this - the only thing they have in common is that they KNOW this will happen, so naturally they'll try to cushion things also for their own families. Their only defence is to tell you what you want to hear - otherwise YOU will chose someone ELSE that TELLS YOU WHAT YOU WANT TO HEAR. Yep, that's humans for ya.
You'll still have to endure that 20+ year period of civil unrest, poverty, fight for jobs, unions that try to fight for old and lost values etc. You won't escape that part, so you might as well prepare for it.
For those few lucky out there that still got jobs, save Save and SAVE up a bundle. Can't afford to save? Well, can you afford a new TV? Do you NEED a new TV? You need to rethink the way you live - you need to RECYCLE much more, fix and repair rather than throw away, brace yourselves - you're in for a tough period, and I've been preaching this for over 30 years now...and now you all see it happening.
I have nothing against capitalism, but what is almost boring is the predictability of every young successful/millionaire/billionaire: When you have enough, you want more - regardless. His logic is exactly the same as every commercial software company in the world - if someone pirates your software, you have stolen property from the software company. And the pirates logic is exactly the opposite: We haven't stolen anything, it's not a physical item stolen, and besides - there's no guarantee anyone would purchase it anyway. Both sides are right so some extent, yes - potentially lost revenue (not guaranteed), but also potential advertisement (popularity increase = fame & more customers actually wanting the product).
The entire point is: If we let people get away with endless greed, we're the ones to blame because we just stand by and Zuck it up (pun intended).

Most people run Lua on the ESP8266 and there are no Adruino compatible environments for it.
Oh yes there is. I run Arduino on ESP 8266-12E.
And since you didn't bother to google, I'll do it for you just to ruin AC's reputation and trolling attempt:
https://github.com/esp8266/Ard...
And a neato working Instructables to show you how to do this with no additional Arduino needed:
http://makezine.com/2015/04/01...>
Oh...and I even run a server on an ESP8266-12E and I used only the Arduino Sketch interface to upload directly to the ESP8266 like so many before me.

This is all just a game.
You need to rethink the way you live - you need to RECYCLE much more, fix and repair rather than throw away, brace yourselves - you're in for a tough period, and I've been preaching this for over 30 years now...and now you all see it happening.
...Zuckerberg is no different.
/millionaire/billionaire: When you have enough, you want more - regardless.
I have nothing against capitalism, but what is almost boring is the predictability of every young successful
The entire point is: If we let people get away with endless greed, we're the ones to blame because we just stand by and Zuck it up (pun intended).
